Joystick configuration

I thought that the standard button configuration was

    Guard Punch Kick
    Evade

That's how I have my joystick configured at home. One day,
while at a bowling alley in noticed that it had VF3. I was
shocked and amazed! It's on a really cheap cabinet and the
buttons aren't even labeled, but I assumed that it's config
was the same. Boy was I wrong. It went...

    Punch Kick Evade
    Guard

Bleck!! I couldn't really adjust to that setup and lost on
like the 4th stage or so. So what is the standard config?

[G "before" P, meaning G either beneath or beside P] has been the common configuration on nearly all vf machines in NA, europe, and japan for the last _seven years_.

there are exceptions, though, such as the TB in california in a converted VF2 cab, completely lacking an E button, and also commonly reported by visitors from korea and taiwan, where the setup was like yours (E in the G button's common place).
