My roommate got some crud on my ASCII FT2 joystick earlier today, but was kind enough to use some glass cleaner to wipe it off.
Unfortunately... now some of the buttons are stuck in perpetual "response" mode, even when not pressed.
I've tried to open the bottom of the stick by unscrewing the screws holding it together, but even with the screws out it seems like something is keeping the bottom from opening all the way. It seems almost impossible to even pry it open.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do? I'm at a complete loss and almost in tears here...

Are the buttons physically stuck down, or is the electric circuit always closed?

If it's the circuit, you'll probably have to do some scraping on the board with a razor blade and then rewire aftermarket buttons onto the stick's box.

Zero, if you can't get it fixed, don't throw it out. I may be in the market for a Hori style ball stick, and if the joystick portion still works fine, I'd be willing to buy it off you.

Yupa: the connection is always closed...

I finally managed to get the case open. They cleverly hid some of the screws under the little rubber feet. In any case, it's very strange in that the button switches seem GLUED to the circuit board. I tried just hitting the bare switches and still had problems with one or two not registering all of the time or part of the time. I just gave them a cleaning off so I'll check to see if it's any better tomorrow morning. If not, I'm really not sure what to do next. ()

There must be some kind of solvent in the glass cleaner that your roomate used...
    Good luck.

What kind of glass cleaner is that? I thought they have ammonia in them and that's it. Must be some kind of organic solvent that caused the plaster to melt and stick.

Next time ask your friend to make his own glass cleaner using household ammonia. Its cheaper and plus the fact if you are fed up, can make a bomb. Diagrams with instructions to follow if you PM me /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

I dunno about you guys, but I prefer a Mas Systems custom stick. I'm considering getting one made exclusively for VF. I have one for Dreamcast that's made exclusively for 2D capcom fighters and another for PSOne I had made for Tekken 2 back in the day. Mas sticks are 100% arcade components. You can even custom rig them yourself with new buttons or sticks whenever needed. They are expensive, but I can attest.. It honestly gets no better. I think the url is: www.MASSYSTEMS.com

    Just my two cents.
