It was pretty obvious from the start that the stories about her did not add up.
The army and media was looking for heroes early on in the war and accordingly rumours became full fledged press stories wich were accepted as fact.
Not old enough to drink, barely old enough to vote, at an age where people should be learning about life and its pitfalls.
Yet tens of thousands of people her age, people who in civilian life aren’t trusted by their elders are expected to restore order in a country that is very hostile to them.
I cant imagine what those soldiers must go trough, nor can I imagine what the life of ordinary Iraqi´s must be like right now.
People that age can be very cruel, as witnessed by some of the disturbing footage I have witnessed of the treatment of Iraqi PoW´s or even during regular round ups.
Yet somehow you cant blame it on these kids, the cruelty they display is a direct product of the situation they have been placed in, a situation and circumstances wich they have not asked for.
In this era of soundbites and headlines its too easy to miss both the bigger picture as well as the daily drama´s faced by millions of people.
Sadly it seems that that is exactly whats going on.
I wish the best for both the kids serving in Iraq for the US army as well as the people of Iraq itself who have suffered under the hands of a brutal dictator for several decades and are now suffering under an occupation which seems based on false pretense.

I hope these words didn’t offend anyone.

So for the last 4 days ive skipped two nights and slept for around 18 houres total.
I have to do nightshift and have been awake since 9.30 this morning, im tired and feel like shit.

It had less to do with the Army and more to do with the media making a spectacle of something they thought to be true. I've,a ctually, known about this since the beginning since my dad gets briefings on what happens in the military (he's retired Air Force and works on base as an instructor) and he happens to hate media hype, anyway (ironic that I want to go into advertising).

It's not much different form someone not checkign their facts. A guy once got a Purple Heart, a PURPLE HEART, because he reported an injury that he got a shell in his eye. Thing is, this guy was a cook and he was talking about an egg shell. Yeah, he was injured during wartime (Vietnam) but that doesn't mean he deserved a Purple Heart over those that denied receiving them because their wounds were battle-related, yet not serious.

I just wish people would use their brain when they read or hear things and not just take things as it is... I don't care if you investigate further or what not... simply think about things for a second and form your own opinion... instead of just taking things at face value, which is what I see all around me... and that makes me sick. Maybe Nietzsche was right... there are those of whom only fit to be the slave masses...

I love how the US media leaves out all the details about what really happened and still call her a hero. There are thousands of US soldiers under attack so we can fill our gas tanks. Where is the parade for them?

I get so infuriated with this war. If you ever get the chance read the Pentagon Papers by Daniel Ellsberg, there's alot of similarities between Iraq and Vietnam. Even the whole premise of how we ended up in Iraq is similar. Would it be that bad if we packed up and left?

    Google Troop Morale news search

Sorry your dying no parades for you. Also of note is the news item on there how the White House blacklisted a reporter who reported on the morale as being gay and canadian! The horror a gay reporter from canada, like we care.

    Welcome to East Germany 1945:

''None of us that wear this uniform are free to say anything disparaging about the Secretary of Defense or the President of the United States,'' General John Abizaid, the head of U.S. Central Command, told ABC News.

    Low Troop Morale.....

    "Google Troop Morale news search"

    Sorted by relevance:

US troop morale hits low point

Troop morale plummets, death toll mounts

    Troop morale low in Iraq

Extended duty in Dreamland ruins morale

Troop morale in Iraq hits 'rock bottom'

    - - -

Just a taste of the various articles all written about living conditions in Iraq, and how they contribute to the increasingly low morale of our military, in and not in Iraq. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
