1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

Ok, eventhough i'm very new to the fighting genre, i have done my research. It seems to me that VF isn't as popular as Namco fighting games here in the US. In my region, i have no idea who else plays VF. When im at my university, a lot of people there play Tekken and SoulCal. Though i have no interest in Tekken, SoulCal 2 is one of my favorite game, and i enjoy the camraderie when a group of people gather together and play it. VF, however, is a different story for me.

So when you guys decide to play VF, do you get together with another friend or two and play it (excluding special gathering i.e. SoCal event) or are you just like me and spend endless hours playing in the quest mode?

BTW, just out of curiousity, do you guys play any other fighting game competitively? As i mention earlier, Soul Cal II changed my view about the fighting genre, and i dont have any problem finding a friend to sit down with in an afternoon.

    cheers:)

Fortunately, my wife is into VF - so we play about 30-60 minutes almost every day. I'll ususally do Akira combo practice afterwards for another hour.

Sometimes people come over after work here and there during the week. Not so much of that now, but it will probably happen again when VF5 comes out.

SoCal in general meets at Arcade Infinity to play VF:FT once a week.

I don't play other fighting games right now. I've thought about it, and I'd rather train VF.

It might be to your benefit to let people on the board know where you are on the planet as you could be closer to experienced competition than you realize, even if you don't see your area, region or city represented in Jamboree. In fact, I've never seen a topic begun in Jamboree that isn't along the lines of "Looking for players in city X" or "Weekly ritualized beatings in Birmingham".

So there you have it right there, one way people find others to play is by posting "Anybody live around me?" and then going that extra mile and telling people where you are.

Most of us aren't sexual predators.

Another way to go about things is by getting that guy you plop next to on the couch in the afternoon to give a different game a whirl. Play a couple and then when complaint x or y is hurled, suggest that the two of you watch a little of what is possible in the game by checking out one of the replays saved for you on the game disk. Make it a goal to make your matches look like those. Bust your hump, put some work into the game and then travel to something like the socal event and astonish everyone with your enthusiasm and skill.

I used to play tournament chess but that takes too much work.

wow, your so lucky. to be honest with you, i am hooked on VF now. escpecially after i can consistantly do akira's [4][6][P], [P],[2_][6][P] and its variations. the reward feeling of finally completing such a hard combo is amazing.

Trust me, i tried evertime they come over. unfortunately, they still think the game is too "stiff". and its majority rules, so i cant do anything about it. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well, I just recently picked up VF4: Evo "seriously"....so I've still been spending most of my time in Quest mode/Training mode. When classes start back up here in the Fall semester though, it should be a different story. Our college typically has a good number of tournaments going on...mostly with Halo 2/Super Smash Brothers Melee though...but on occassion they'll have a VF4/Tekken/SoCal tourney. Plus a lot of the guys I met last year apparently were really into VF4, so hopefully I'll be able to get back in touch with em and play with em.

And god...yea...that whole "stiff" complaint comes up too often with my roommate and my close friends. Most of em understand that VF is a series you really have to get into, and most of em highly respect it as a fighter in general. That being said, that doesn't translate into wanting to get into it, sadly ^.^ Plus everyone I know is either into Halo 2 or PC titles (Diablo 2, Unreal Tourney 2K4, etc...), so they'd rather practice at those than try something new.
