Cool things are afoot in the land of VF... things like Justin Wong and SEGA Cup.

Here's hoping he trains at WNF.

Alex Valle, Ryan Hart and the Korean Tekken player Nin have all done what you said hasn't happened. Nin played King of Fighters exclusively and only hopped on Tekken after a bet from somebody that he couldn't play. He picked up Tekken then completely took over. So it can be done. 2d players just have to get over their "we came first" egos and see things from a different perspective.

Nuki - a strong Street Fighter player before he was a very strong Aoi player during the VF4 days.

Anyways, glad we got one more player to go participate in Sega Cup :D . I am more excited in meeting all the new players from VFDC though. So I look forward to seeing lots of people from here at Los Angeles in April.

There's been other 2D heads that are solid in VF. It's nothing new.

A lot of people in general don't understand VF, whether it's neoGAF or here. It's not hard, but the "A-Ha, I get it" moment sinks in at a different rate depending in the person.

VF at least would gain some spotlight when those 2D celebrities actually play. However, the question is how long can they stick with?;)

On the topic of Nuki, many 3rd Strike players have commented on how surprisingly similar VF's mindset is to 3rd Strike. Like VF, 3rd Strike requires good yomi, and there's no guaranteed best tactic if it's been read by your opponent.

At one of our Melbourne tournaments last year, a 3rd Strike player scored an upset victory against one of our better players, through basic but effective yomi. Since Justin Wong is a long time 3rd Strike player, you'd best expect that he's got good yomi and will destroy you if you try anything predictable.

      Don't get kickflipped.:D

Jaxel that whole paragraph was a waste of time. All that matters is one does the player like the game in question, two does he have drive to get better at the game in question, and three does that player have general fighting game skills to achieve top level. All this crap about what your first fighting was is all nonsense.

Agreed. I've always said that too. Mix ups, mix ups, mix ups. I'm a 3rd strike player too and the universal overheads act like mids in 3d fighters so simply ducking and turtling like what's typically done in 2d fighters won't work, you have to go about defense in a smart way or else you'll get comboed. Also the parry in 3rd strike works similar to the sidestep in 3d fighters.

I hope people take heed to these posts, especially the ones who will be there playing against Justin. Cuz if you sleep on him you will caught up quick.

Then i Must be God because i can play 2-D and 3-D equally well with no carry over. After SF2 every fighting game that dropped i played and they all have the same premise.... DON"T GET HIT!!!!

Seriously speaking.... JWONG Has no choice but to endure ass whooping to become decent bottom line. There is no instant overheads, Assists, Unblockable infinites or pressure rushdowns.. In VF you rushdown if you want. Keep attacking and see what happens.. If Justin cared about this game.. He would've been playing it from the jump. This guy has no time to play a game for fun anymore.

This is one of the smartest things Sega could have done to promote VF.

To anyone doubting Wong's ability to adapt, I strongly disagree. He's an amazing player and could be on par with the likes of Fuudo if he put the time in. I think the reality is he probably won't play it much after Evo but I hope he does well in the tournament.

Mr. Naps (Top US Bryan in Tekken) first competitive game was 3rd Strike (was called Emphy, played Urien)

Tracking Justin's progress through VF5FS is a pretty cool idea tbh.

If he's going to be there anyway it would be smart of his to enter.

*sigh* since i was a kid i have always wanted to be a pro gamer and once I found vf i knew right away that it was the game i was gonna attend my first tourney for. Win lose or draw i would have been happy just to be there. Over the past 6 years though there that always been something going to that prevents me from going. When i have the money i cant get the time off when i have the time i dont have the money. When i have both something bad happens and someone dear to me needs me with me for awhilw to help them recoup. Sadly the circumstances are the same this year ass always but him to a new career path is it there is a next time i hope to see you all then. Also i would love the opportunity to play a few with jwong. Just seems like it would be fun
