    I've picked up VF5 playing as Kage and am trying to master him. I have no trouble beating most but I have trouble fighting Lei-Fei... especially when he gets in a one legged stance.

    My friend like to rappidly button mash with this character while attacking high and low while also going into this stance.

    What is the best way to fight Lei-Fei with Kage??????

    Please help!!!

    Kage does rule all. He can hold his own against all the character in the cast, but for your problem is simple /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif can interrupt all of Lei-Fei's little strings just make sure you are timing them correctly and you should be fine. Oh, and if you get really good at it you can punish him if thats all hes doing. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

    He button mashing furiously and he's stringing power moves that I can't block in his mashing. It puts Lei-Fei in a weird stance that makes him do power moves... the best I could do was use evade moves and strike but usually by that time I am almost dead after his crazy barrage.

    I will try down punch to see if it works.

    There's no one answer or tool to deal with Lei-fei, or dealing with every other character for that matter.

    My suggestion is that you brush up on the mechanics of the game. If he is mashing like you said, you should be able to get a counter-attack most of the time.

    When you hit him with an attack, watch what he does. It's possible that he's attacking even at disadvantage. You should do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and that will float him for an easy combo. Once he starts guarding then you can mix-up with throws.

    i suggest you keep ringing yourself out until he doesn't want to play you as lei fei anymore.

    I'm sure if he mashes buttons like that, a simple low punch will give you counter hits. You can test him by throwing more than one low punch and you'll see if he's one of those people that refuses to block and just keeps mashing (attacking from a disadvantage is called "abare" I believe) I've low punched 3/4 of some one's life bar because they just won't block and want to keep attacking no matter what. If you know what to do against this type of player they're actually pretty easy to beat. They'll beat themselves by not blocking anything almost ever.

    try to make /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif at any stance. Since i can guard or esquive it should hit him

    Just remember that Lei-Fei can't block/evade when in his stances, and in ones where his back is facing you he can deflect attacks. Pick Lei-Fei, learn his moves and study his frames. Check the command list.

    Break /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif.

    Also, with Kage: Use your broken moves to beat his broken moves.

    I don't recommend anyone to use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif unless it is to end the round. This move leaves Kage at a very big disadvantage even when it connects. The opponent can easily tech-roll and punish with a guaranteed combo.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif(very risky too), /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif are some good moves to punish someone going to a stance.

    There are no secret counters against Lei's stances just tons of patience.

    Yeah... <u>button mashing</u>... he is also a "/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gifMasher"

    He button mashes but also holds /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and mimics my /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif patterns.

    I get impatient fighting him because it can be a really big /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif fest and it gets really boring and frustrating especially when he lands a power hit after all of that guarding.

    How he fights with Lei-Fei:
    <ul>[*]He attacks randomly high and low with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gifor/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or some /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif power moves.[*]He mashes on the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif as much as he mashes on his moves so it hard for me to lang anything.[*]He gets in a one legged stance alot.[*]I can't pull any /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (throws) moves off. So how does my battle plan look?
    I do ok on the quest mode. I have ranked to Gladiator offline... but it took me 10 matches to beat him 3 times and win a match.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif are not guaranteed, they can easily roll out of it after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    I'm guessing this is what you want to say /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif as the starter combo here. You should use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif for the combo.

    You don't need to tap /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif twice to do an evade, just tap it once.

    The reward compared to the risk for countering his punch is not worth it for Kage. You're better off blocking.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is a very risky move and should only be used sparingly and very special situations like when Lei just stays in a stance. But even then you're better off using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif

    It just seems to me that you really need to learn the basics of the game. Are you playing on expert mode on Quest? Anyways good luck.

    Pretty much what Oioron said. Learn the basics then simply play a conservative game.

    I highly recommend choosing Lei Fei, going into the Dojo/Quest and trying the same moves your friend pulls off. Specifically see which moves leave him at -12 or more disadvantage on block = guaranteed throw attempt for you. If he doesn't do throw escapes (which, judging by his button masher repertoire, I doubt he does) should mean a guaranteed TFT (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif). For his one legged stance, find out some of Kage's low attacks and use accordingly.

    Use Lei's version B command list (click me!) if you're playing the PS3 version or his version C command list (click me too!) if you're playing the 360 version. Notice the "Grd" at the top? That's the frames Lei is at when you block whatever that attack is. Recognize those moves in the Dojo with Lei and see which ones your friend abuses.

    If he, for example, likes to abuse /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif a lot, which is -14 (according to the version C command list) on block, then look at Kage's version C command list (or version B command list) and see which moves execute in 14 frames or less.

    Your opponent at -14, you have some moves (elbow classes like.../forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif) guaranteed as well as throws. So use the frame data available here (and in this very post, just click the red links) to your advantage.

    Note: For the command lists, at the top where you have "Dmg Lvl Cls Exe Act Tot Grd Hit CH Esc", clicking on any one of those will sort the moves in ascending or descending order based on those values.

    i.e. Clicking on "Grd" once will sort the moves in descending order starting with staggers, to advantage (+2, +1) down to the disadvantage (-12, -14, etc). These would be the values you'd be at if your attack is block (i.e. guarded, thus the "Grd").

    Notice for Kage how /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is at -71 (!) on block? Ouch...

    To see what moves are guaranteed at -71 (pretty much everything), just look at the execution frames ("Exe" on the command lists; this is the time it takes for your move to connect to the opponent, i.e. the time it takes to hit them). If the Exe is 71 frames or less, it's guaranteed. Throws execute in 12 frames, so they're definitely guaranteed.

    And...ummm...I think that's it. Check out this part of the VF5 system faq to see what the hell I'm talking about:

    http://virtuafighter.com/wiki/doku.php?id=vf5:system_part_2#attack_mechanics

    And this part may help too:

    http://virtuafighter.com/wiki/doku.php?id=vf5:system_part_2#advantage_and_disadvantage

    This should also definitely help you (it's for VF4, so the frame data he uses probably won't apply to VF5; for example, throws in VF4, IIRC, were 8 frames not 12, but the application of frames is still the same, so it will help you):

    http://virtuafighter.com/view.php?section=vf4&file=vf4ft_frames_guide.html

    Let's hope I didn't screw anything up in my explanation. *is still a newb*

    Look what I'm about to type up isn't the way to beat excellent lei fei players but maybe it will give the OP an idea of what he really needs to focus on.

    Right off the bat to beat his high string that 99% of online lei fei's use hit them with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. The first hit goes under highs and you get a combo for it. Example:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    Does good damage and moves Lei a huge distance which can be crucial in say a Ring out stage. If Lei keeps spamming the high, keep hitting him with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif until he stops. Both hits are safe on block but the last hit is high so it can be beat.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif is also very good cause you can beat any of Lei Fei's annoying lows with it as well as low kick wake up and low punch. Get them with this fairly simply combo (you can check the wiki later for beter stuff on all the combos I just list). This move is also good because you have 0 disadvantage if they block it so you can proceed to low punch, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, or hell do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif again if you think they are going to low punch.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ->/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    Another thing you can do is whenever you hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and know he's still going to attack press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif right after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif (it will execute /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif) and you will most likely counter hit him for a launch which btw you can follow up with suprise-suprise...

    MC /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ->/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif

    Seeing a pattern here?

    Now check this out, this is just BEGINNER strategy for using one of his stances, his shippuujin stance. Later on when you learn more and do some wiki research you can get cooler more interesting stuff. When you knock lei fei down, do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to enter shippuujin. If the dude doesn't tech roll and insteads stays on the ground to do the rising kick entering the stance will most likely put you out of range of his kick. Basically wait in the stance for his wake up kick to whiff then do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif from Shippuujin stance immediately and you will nail him for a fat combo. Example:

    Shippujin /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    (or if you are lagging like crazy or just having a hard time connecting you can replace the last part with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif ..... just like the other combos.)

    Last but not least when he starts blocking, throw him with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif everytime you can. If you are in a ring out stage and throw him toward the edge with some space to spare try this basic Ring Out combo:

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

    *The dark directional means you need to hold it to get an advancing jab which allows you to push them farther and ring them out.

    If you can ring em out, try the combos listed in the wiki or if those are really hard (and sometimes online it is) then try these beginner combos (ONLY FOR NOW, you should eventually practice the real stuff when you get the chance)

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif -> /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
