After seeing that 1/60sec had the input timings documented for the Dragon Punch Combo (DPC), I got this crazy idea. I thought about writing a small application which would allow you to practice the combo. All the info was there, thanks to 1/60sec, so coding it up was a piece of cake.

Then I recalled some time ago, the Japanese site Shigure, had a flash based VF typing game, so I then had a crazier idea of making the DPC trainer flash based as well. What made the idea crazier was the fact that I didn't know squat about flash!

So after about three days of self-based flash training, I've managed to throw something together. I'd say it's a beta version for now, because there are a few more things I want to add to it. But I don't know how soon I can work on it again, so I thought I may as well release it now. So here it is:

    http://media.virtuafighter.com/hishoukyaku/

Since it uses a short video to display the combo, the total size is around 4mb. It's large because the video is stored uncompressed (which is something I'm trying to improve on).

Instructions on how to play are on the site.

    Have fun!

It is very difficult. I can get 3 hits 99% of the time. Getting that 4th hit however -- 20% or so. Remeber the window for the last button input is only 2 frames wide. That being said I find it easier sitting in front of an actually FT machine -- I'm certain that's down to the full sized buttons. My laptop keyboard has tiny keys /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice job Myke! When the hell are you coming back to Canada? You don't want to miss winter do you :p

Thanks Myke!! Wow this is incredible stuff! This is bound to raise my winning percentage a point or two...

P.S. Damn this thing seems harder to do than the real thing though, LOL.

    Mike!

    You are the fucking MAN!

I can get the first two hits but damn...I was describing to william that it was like sgpm>de>dbc>doublepalm, acting out the moves as I said them.

Stupidness aside...This is such a useful tool to Kage users and everyone else who either has FT available or doesn't.

    And you've programmed kickass shit!

    For FREE! For US!

    Thankyou.

just a suggestion, but this would be a good start to more stuff like the timing for variou chars hit-throws, Brad's Rajadamnan (whatever it's called) combination timing, Akira's [6][6][P]+[K], [P], etc.

    whaddya think? just an idea

    Myke,

I would appreciate if you would take the entire 1/60th site, rip the characters from direct feed FT video and create a 2d online fighter. This would require some more time spent learning various programing languages and the like but I'm sure I would find it very rewarding.

Please let me know when you're close to completion so I can review and critique.

vanity, that's the site it was on, but it's no longer there.

ken_i, I was already thinking of creating similar flash based apps for other characters and their moves but I'll leave out stuff that require joystick inputs as part of the tricky timing (like spod, dlc for e.g.) There's more training value if the skill only requires button timing. Kind of like VF meets bemani. Anyway, the next thing I'll probably do is Akira's 66p+kp.

GE, ice, I'll have a beta version for you to test first thing Monday morning.

Forgot to mention, I've revamped the page slightly with clearer instructions/tips, and I've also improved the sound quality on the previous version so that you should be able to hear the hits better.

Hey Myke, maybe you can add some hints like if you pushed the buttons too early or late.

Since the video stops when you mess up, it shouldn't be too hard to print out "2 frames too early", "1 frame too late", or "way too late"

Anyway, cool little app. But, I still haven't seen the entire video yet. heheh /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

    Hey Myke,

I agree with VF4Akira, a little note saying "slow down" or "speed up" if you mess up would be helpful, and probably not too hard to add...

Another thing, maybe if you could somehow make a click track or something with beeps to help people get the timing down, that would help too... It may be easier for people to pick up the timing if they can listen to a WAV file or something with a short beep during the middle of each frame window when you can input an attack...

Also, I've gotten pretty good at getting through the trainer... I'd love to tell you that I went to the arcade tonight and had no problems doing it, but alas pulling it off in combat prooved too difficult /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif I need more practice!

    How about other games???
I remember what a bitch it was trying to learn Slayer's standing S,S,S,S combo in GGXX. Just mashing it out to try and get the timing down was a pain in the ass.
Nice Work on this, Myke, and thanks.

Is it just my lame browser because the video seems ahead of the inputs? I hit hit punch twice and Kage starts to do the kick. I finished it once but it was luck more than anything.
