LA: getting together

    Hi all,

After the excitement of EC4, I'm inspired to play some more VF after a period of inactivity.

Since I tend to get swamped at work, I'd like to organize something regular and robust enough so that I know it's going to be happen and can plan around (rather than through or on top of) it.

With this in mind, I humbly propose the following for your consideration:

We have a regular, but rotating, VF night. By rotating I mean that a different person hosts the other players each time, in some sort of semi-organized cycle. This way it's not always at Spotlite's place, or whatever.

Another benefit: I would be prepared to drive quite long distances to play as long as I didn't have to do it every time. So I might have the luxury of having everyone at my place one week, then drive to San Diego the next. That would make it more fair for people like Andy who are a long way from LA. [Andy, I'm thinking you're in San Diego - I could be confused about this!]

After speaking with the boss (my wife, Amy, who was there at EC4 but played StarCraft the whole time =] ) I can offer up my place at least once a month. I have a reasonably large TV and pretty good couch space! So I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is =]

So if we had three others who could host, that would make a good starting cycle.

Anyway, what do you think? I'm definitely keen to work something out and play more (must... beat... Talis'... Akira!!!).

    That's mariner power!

Getting together on a regular basis sounds like a good idea. Catherine and I would like to do this every two or three weeks - three being preferred.

    Details:
Our house is definitely available for the rotation (concrete floors or not /versus/images/icons/grin.gif ). We have enough TVs for three setups. Friday and Saturday nights are best for us (we can run till whenever in the morning). Saturday and Sunday afternoons could work, too - but they are not as guaranteed (dog shows, swap meets, and housework can conflict). Weeknights are ok except for Wednesdays. We'd stay until 11:30 pm or host till midnight. Weekends are definitely preferrable to weeknights.

    Hi everyone,

Actually, I live in Hollywood, about 10 or 15 minutes away from Bryan. My place is not good to host more than 1 person, since I live in a studio with a smallish TV and terrible parking.

My best night during the week is Wednesday, though I can swing the others if they are closer to LA. Weekends are also good. Spotlite, on the other hand, works on the weekends, so his best day is Thursday, though I think he can swing Wednesdays too sometime. Mike's schedule I'm not too sure about, though he seems to prefer Thursdays, and sometimes he works on the weekends. David (vf4akira) hasn't shown up too much lately, but I think is now open only on the weekend. Joey is open on the weekend and Thursday night is also good for him. Not sure about Brian (brisal) or Paul (sol_Fizz).

So, good luck getting a day that's good for all of us from that!

    Andy

no room, but if I did have a place near where I live it would be perfect considering its pretty much in the middle of everyone else...oh well...maybe AI will finally get VF evo...cross fingers

cool... so is it mike who lives in San Diego? I'm sure *someone* lives in San Diego (someone on VFDC that is). Anyway...

It sounds like Thursday is the best night for the largest number of people... I have kickboxing Thursdays, but I'm basically thinking I'd rather shift some stuff around to make VF time than never play VF with quality opponents (which has been my situation for the last couple of months). So... I can make Thursdays.

Spotlite - what do you think of the "cycling through people's houses" idea? I'm assuming we could use your place for one of the nights, right? If we just cycled between your place, my place and Plague's place, that might be enough...

Hey thanks for posting people in LA, but is there going to be an event happening in DEC or is everyone gonna take a Christmas break from breaking heads in VF?

I'm going to be in LA in DEC, and I live in Gardena.

    Lemme know
    thanks /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

    gribbly,

Mike92123, vf4akira, Eric (I believe), and Sol_fizZ are in the San Diego area.

I just sent my PS2 out for repair (has a problem that plagues early versions - can't read layered DVDs so a bunch of movies don't work, and doesn't like blue-backed PS2 games like VF4). Hopefully I'll see it back in a couple weeks.

In the mean time let's get this get-together action going. We won't be available this Thursday or the weekend immediately following (nor next Thursday or weekend for that matter). But after that, we're ready.

Vegbomb: I'm looking forward to meeting you in DEC (I assume "DEC" is December - that all caps thing was throwing me off... I'm thinking "is DEC some acronym for some shit I don't know about?")

    Re: My place, November 14th

Brisal73: I can certainly pick you up along the way.

Cameron (and everyone else): I can bring a TV (I think it's like 19" - it's the nomal second setup TV for past get-togethers at my place). My PS2 is out for service. Hopefully Brisal73 can bring his or someone else can volunteer theirs.

Oh, and Harlock, if you're out there somewhere... you know you've been perfecting those Jacky-machi skills /versus/images/icons/smile.gif. Backdash-Side-Shuffle-Step-Stop "WTF, why didn't I dodge!" *CRUNCH* <~74 pts damage>. Hopefully you can make it.

Plague - go ahead and bring the other TV. Two setups is better than one!

As for players I may have an enthusiastic amateur from work. He's a good SF player who may make the transition.... here's hoping.

    Anyway... any more RSVPs?

I want to go but I'm not sure if I'll be able to yet. Basically I'm not working right now, but it's likely that I'll be working next week. I won't know until at least next Tuesday. I guess technically I'm "on call" but if I start working again next week, I won't be able to make it.

    Re: My place, November 14th

I shall bring the TV. I guess it's actually larger than 19" (I'm looking over at a 19" monitor and thinking the TV is bigger than that), which is good /versus/images/icons/smile.gif.
