how bad is the lag during online play? i don't have xbox live, but i know that it can be a serious problem for frame based fighting games like vf. i play tekken dr online sometimes and quite often you can experience 0.2 -0.5 seconds of lag. is it similar?

It'll vary. Usually a green connection is fairly stable. Try to play someone from some distant place like Columbia, and you're tossing the dice.

so there are no dedicated servers? is the connection speed/ping influencing much?

Nope, no servers, just one players hosts, the other player joins. Obviously speeds can effect it to some extent. But, I would still say it's shockingly well done. There's a reason everyone's calling it the best online fighting experience at the moment. (well, ignoring stuff like GGPO)

Occasional matches will lag a lot... like, noticeable pauses while the game syncs, but that's maybe 1 in 25 games or less, as long as you aren't constantly challenging people from halfway across the world. The majority of games aren't perfectly similar to offline play... you occasionally see guaranteed moves miss, but it's usually a situation where you sit there thinking "did I input that late?". Happens just often enough that I'm pretty sure there's a lag issue, but it's not really a serious problem.

Oh yeah Jay about the lag issues here. If you played that travesty called DR online then you will praise at how smooth Xbox handles VF. I remeber The Game brought his PS3 over my house for some casuals. Now I was curious to see what online was like......I could'nt hit UF3 DF1 DF1 12 F2+1+2 WITH Lili. Thats pretty bad. Well PS3 is free I guess thats a plus. I also saw players missin Jak combos. I kissed my system when I played some of the smoothest matches. Lag gets bad but not like DR. I play mostly east coast players players and I have no problems. Rumor has it Tekken 6 might hit Xbox. My fingers are crossed. Please get an Xbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!
