Let Shang on the forum!

I know, from what I've read, that Shang can go ape-bat shit on the forum and that it could possible be "crazy" at time, but he's the best player from Boston and you know what? We need Boston in the scene! I know what you're thinking, "Boston isn't the be-all end all of the VF5 community," and you know what it isn't. I'll tell one thing it is though. A vital part of a successful USA community. Lets welcome back Shang to these forums. Cause I know his rep for crazy posting would give this community a necessary boost.

 

You have to admit he is hilarious, and after all the backtrack reading I've been doing, it seems more like his Kage threads are jokes (well made jokes) than actual confrontational arguments.

But I don't blame Myke for banning him either hahaha.

I went to Shang's forum today and judging from the comments on his page it seems he has more devoted fans than vfdc does.

I read these forums quite often and have been for the last few years. Though I do not post much I still consider myself an active member and have always had great respect for the VFDC community. This request for his membership has compelled me to both research and comment on the idea.

So I took the time to browse some posts by Shang and take a look at his blog. His blog alone is ridiculous, its not even funny, its just ranting the most inane comments he could think of with an attempt to create shock value to grab readers. His posts, regardless of any humor, which again I couldn't see any, are not constructive for the most part.

Overall I don't know the guy and I don't know Myke. But I do know this community and its a great one. The negative comments and asshole approach that Shag takes is not necessary or in any situation desired by new or old users.

I greatly appreciate and respect Mykes decision to not reinstate Shangs membership.

I like Shang's stuff. It challenges the status quo of VFDC where anyone who has been playing for a while is willing to give "advice." First off, it is kinda funny. Sure, homophobia is quite lame, but at least my reading of his stuff transcends the blatant "immaturity" (who defines this?) found in his posts. I think he has a valid point, the "advice" we give is quite shitty and -I think- give a lot of misconceptions to beginning players and even the "veterans." We read information from really good players, who of course have legitimate information, but it doesn't always address the context of a situation a player may find him/herself in.

Too much of the information is too specific and black and white. I think we should expand, collaborate through VFWiki or something else, and produce something peer-edited and in-depth. I want to do it, but I feel like doing it alone (on Vanessa) will give my bullshit take on the game and nothing else (but fuck, who else plays her almost exclusively?). I mean, I only use DS, and will continue to use DS until I get bored with the game or something.

We need writing a staff (and get the "good" players to FUCKING-POST-HERE), we need differing points of view, regardless of how extreme (OS BLOWS, lol).

Granted, it takes a good eye to see through a lot of the excesses of Shang's posts, which I believe he should have worked on.

If I'm ever in the East Coast I need to play him (he'll pwn me of course); he sounds like fun.

 

Exactly, and that's why he earned his numerous bans.

Myke doesn't own VFDC (unless something has changed) that's Ice-9 and he's taken more than his fair share of abuse from Shang (and others) without much comment or action. It is entirely appropriate for an Admin to ask members to behave themselves and treat others fairly during their time here.

Almost everyone steps outside of these bounds from time to time. It is the multiple, willful infractions that will get a person the conveted, gold covered ban.


What is important to point out here is that between each ban Shang came to Myke and asked for re-enstatement and it was given on the condition that he wouldn't repeat past mistakes. I can't know for certain but I assume that every time Shang went apeshit on the forum Myke felt a little bit of the fool for having believed he would be good this time.

The truth is that Shang owns his ban - he alone is responsible for his actions and he alone has been held accountable for them.

If anyone feels like they are being deprived of anything they can visit on the Blog that Myke linked to or come to IRC - we pretty much let him run wild there.

I haven't been on here long, but from what I've read of shang's posts, there is little he contributes to this community. Honestly, his bullshit complaints about Kage, who is just as strong as any other character in the hands of a good player, are ridiculous. His rants about how gay or retarded someone is when they disagree with him are immature and pathetic. He says on his blog "I love the internet because there are no consequences for your actions". This man feeds on negativity, and I would stomp him if I ever met him. That said, I think his ban has been well-earned and deserved, and good riddance to him. Anyone who supports that type of behavior is already on my shitlist.

 

I think shang should be given his own subforum to spam, but keep him out of the rest of the boards. Shang's Shitfest

 

I've been wondering who this person was that I herd was banned and from what I've read it seems to be for the best. He dosen't really post on the Eileen threads so I never had to deal with his crap but I'm happier for it. It sucks that a good player like that just doesn't know how to treat others with intellectual integrity because lord knows we could use it.

 

THis place just feels weird w/o Shangs rants and ravings.
