Long Island VF

I live kinda far. Morningstar from the zaibatsu boards has a decent set up n a ps3. He is always cool about having people over too. I am not speaking for him, but im sure he would be the first to have people over for a session. He is in the bayshore area.

 

hey joe...i hope to get some games in with you guys soon. i hear youve got a mean akira. i've been brushing up a bit on the evo to get ready for 5. damn, i've got to get a ps3...im hoping that the price will drop soon, that shit is expensive.

 

haha...me and carlos been playing some evo. I try and only use akira cause he takes some work you know. But def come and get some games in with us, probably in the next few days ill get it so this weekend for sure. Tell them on zaibatsu too.

Joe, I don't know how far you mean (are you in Long Island at all at least?), but will you be making it to the formentioned tourney or at least the VF session after?

Russ, good luck with the price drop. The PSP hasn't had much of a price drop (only 1 drop so far) and it's been out for a while. (Almost 2 years maybe?) I think it used to cost $250 but now it's $200. If Sony does a price drop on the PS3, I think they'll wait till after next Xmas to do it. What you could do is at least be on the look out for good controller convertors for PS2 pads. When I know which one is the best (I know many have had problems), I'll buy some off ebay despite that it may be a while before I actually get a PS3.

 

yeah, akira takes some serious skill. im way to sloppy to play a character like that. anyway if you guys are playing this weekend sometime please let me know (631) 804-6171. i know john(tekken 2) would also be down. fuck that ps3 being so expensive! now im really going to be tempted to get one. maybe i can sneak it on my credit card or something. Cla Ill be at the tourny at the bayshore mall just to hang out cause i know everyone but no tekken for me, just 3rd strike. As for the sessions of VF, I think as of now im the only one that has it. So by this weekend me and morninstar (no g) will have a session.

Oy, listen up! There's gonna be a DR session at Stony Brook this Friday. But more over, there will be a 2 hour period (3:30-5:30) where the PS3 won't be there. Perhaps you and/or Carlos may want to come and bring a PS3+VF5. (or maybe they have another TV there and we can play while DR is going on anyway) Or perhaps just a PS2 for some Evo/SC/3S.

I'll bring a PS2 and Evo and SC3 (don't have SC2 or 3S for PS2) if I go. That's the key words. There's no guarentee I'll make it. So someone else should bring the VF just in case.

 

so what is your assessment of the game play joe/carlos? whats good... whats bad?

Russ its really good. Seems liek the tweaked a lot of stuff , mostly damage. A lot fo new stuff floating around. There is a new sidestep game kinda sorta. All in all i really like it. I went through eileens move list. She seems ehhhhhhh. Not to happy with her. Im still stuck on akira. Just got my new outfit. Thats anoher thing. The edit mode is relaly nice. you can see what it look slike as well as the tone of crap they have.

 

yeah, whats this new side step stuff i keep hearing about? does 5 feel much different from evo...the basic game play? did the characters get many new moves? inquiring minds want to know /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

 

everyone plays different.. and has been upgraded and tweaked more than the jump from 5.0 to DR, the sidestep is a lot like the dodge button from 3 but with a lot more control, and the ability to attack from it, if you use it correctly you get side adavantge on the opponent,.. it also seems like everyone has a position change throw like how tekken 4 was execpt it does a lot less damage and from what i can see should really be used for positioning. overall this game is really well put together,.. as of right now i dont see a real reason to play tekken anymore. unless i guess if you dont have a ps3.. o well..

Yeah, it seems that now CTF is the scene for 2D fighters.

What about this Clash system? How's that flowin' with the gameplay?

 

Yeah ive bene going to chinatown to play since 2001. It is the scene for everything not just 2d. A lot of people play DR up there, but it does have a good mixture and everyone is good. As for the clash system, it is kinda hard to actually do on purpose. It feels like if im attacking with just standard pokes, if my poke is less frame then the throw then my poke will cancel the opponents throw. Its kinda hard to actually do on purpose though like I said. Ive done it a few times just attacking like I normally would and then they try n throw me and it clean breaks the throw. Works with punch and kick. Im almost positive when i was playin carlos last night, I clean broke the throw with the kick button and I was like wo wo wo i just hit kick. Then we realized it was the clash system. Im sure im missing something though. Almost positive it is more situational.

 

is the side step still performed the same way as in evo? do you just get alittle bit more of a sidestep in which to do things(bigger window), or are there actual certain sidestep moves done only in sidestep(like tekken)? is there still ss+g+p+k?

 

the sidestep now is in 2 parts (offense and deffense) The offensive is universal. Its sidestep up or down and all the buttons. You do a longer sidestip with this, but i think with this sidestep some of the moves will track and hit you. Also, ther are certain moves each guy has with it Akira - sidestep all 3 then P or K will do differant moves. now the traditional or deffensive sidestep is more reliable i think. When done right, you see your guys hands kinda push the attack out of the way which gives you a bit of advantage. Akira also has a move in this sidestep as does the rest of the cast. Akiras is sidestep K+P and he hits you with his back. I normally will just side step and go for a launcher for some beefy damage!!!!!!
