Looking for tips on how to do double palm

    So I just got my new stick and planning to play Akira a bit more seriously. I haven't played in arcades in a very long time and basically have zero stick skills.

    Considering how important his instant double palm is to his game, this appears to be something that I absolutely has to get down.

    I hear /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is the best way to perform it, but I have no sense of timing it (and can't do it at all, really). So could anyone give me some tips on what I can train to be able to get that down?

    It's probably hard to get a good feel or sense for the timing just by reading some text. Essentially, you need to buffer the command during the recovery time of the previous attack. So, say you want to do standing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif followed by Double Palm:

    1. Begin your input immediately after the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif hits
    2. Complete your input as the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif finishes recovering

    Have you tried watching any of the Akira matches that come with the VF5 game disc? You can enable the input display to get a feel for the timing and speed at which you must perform the input. There should be plenty of Double Palms for you to sample.

    In fact, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif takes less effort than /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif to modify because you're not worrying about going through neutral all the time.

    /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif may look like an odd notation but it's more of a "shake" whilst doing a backwards crouch dash and works extremely well when buffering dbpms or shrm for example.

    Only other piece of advice I would give for learning how to do modified dbpms is to switch on both the displays in training mode, get a feel for doing dbpm from a crouch dash then build up your speed over time.

    Yeah, I thought that it could be easier after I posted. I was thinking about as I tried to sleep, lol. I'm gonna try it out today, see which one is easier for me.

    Buffering the Double Palm is a skill all in itself in VF. It obviously takes a lot of practice but you can get it down pretty well if you have some innate stick skills, if not, he's gonna be a pain for you to play. The advice mentioned above is very good, especially waiting to buffer /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif until just after your prior move hits. A lot of people try to buffer it too early and it doesn't come out. What Myke said is right. You basically need to do the whole motion between the time your last move connects and finish by the time your last move recovers.

    So it looks like this: - idle, * hit frame, = recovery


    ----**==========----
    -----start---------done----

    So you start buffering /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif just as you hit at (*) and finish hitting /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif by the end of (=) recovery and it will come out instantly. Hit the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif any later and you waste a frame or more, start buffering too early and you'll probably end up with a Standing Palm or his step forward and mid punch.

    you can also do byakko with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, quite odd, but it can work.
