Ridiculously noob question I know, but I haven't been able to find a good answer to this from searching..

What's Goh's most reliable counter to an opponent who just Low punches continuously when in close. This is bugging the hell out of me, the timing for his low punch sabaki seems crazy tight (and playing online really isnt helping that.)

The earlier you execute it, the more advantage you have post-sabaki.

You can also use your Defensive Move attack (DM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif) -- evade their /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and then press /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif during the succcessful evade.

Or, the simplest way to deal with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif spam, block the first and then elbow (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif). If they try another /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif after you've blocked one, the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif will stagger them out of crouch every time.

Spucuk: Goh gets hideously heavy damage combos from his low punch sabaki /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. Learn that stuff quick! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Low punch sabaki -> basara isnt even max damage.

If you have trouble timing it in online play, maybe just use his mid-hitting kicks from range.

As an important basic technique, you should learn to block low punch and respond with a counter combostarter between low punch spam.

Thnks for all the help, I've gotten some really good guidance here, off to practice against my spastic button mashing brother...

Just out of curiousity, whats a good, basic combo from the low punch sabaki? I don't have the basara down more than 50 percent of the time at the moment.

    Sweeptheleg:

Goh's PK is not guaranteed on an elbowstagger.

Doing an elbow when the opponent is -5 (guarded lowpunch) is a waste if you think they'll do it again. Specially when Goh has 6k which is like the best 17f move in the game.

+4 you could use 3k MC combo which should net you about 60'ish damage.

+3 you could use 6p+k,p which on MC gives you about 50dmg.

There are of course other options (backdash k, 443p, 4433p, lowsabaki, 6pp, OM P etc) but those would be the basis of stopping someone you think will continue attacking you.

    Hope that helps /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Just block one low jab and then use a fast mid like an elbow or for goh, I think 3p or down/forward p will do the job. If they try to attack again with a low jab, they will get hit 100% of the time. If you are getting hit by the second low jab, you are not doing your fast mid fast enough.
The reason I think this is better than a counter is twofold.
    1. It teaches fundamentals of Virtua Fighter.
    2. If you do a counter instead and your opponent tries to throw or launcher you at this point, you can lose ALOT of life. The d/f p or fast mid will beat the low punch, will beat a throw and will beat a launcher if he tries that.

Two things to keep in mind when doing this...
    1. You HAVE to block the low jab to be able to counter with the fast mid. If you get hit and try to attack, the next low jab WILL hit you.

    2. You dont have to duck to block the low jab. You can block it standing. For some people this is common knowledge but for others it's not so I thought I would throw it out there.
