I just recieved my Hori Virtua fighter evo stick and MAN it seems likes its going to be a steep learning curve. I'm able to go trough Akria's moves with relative ease except DLC and [1][P][K][G] [P]+[K] [6_][P] but i dont use that sabiki so im not that worried about that but everything else comes out in PRACTICE MODE when in Arcade its a differnt story trying to Dblplm after a low punch is hard well almost impossible right now. Regular movement is hard side stepping, I never had to think about TR and OR like i do now. So i Was just wondering if you guys had in Tips about learning the way of the arcade stick like anything in particular i should practice during my many hrs of learning. Or is there another character i should pick up to help me during my learning period.

Getting used to stick takes a whilewhen you first start, and that does double for Japanese sticks, so just keep at it. Akira is the most input-heavy character, but it's good practice. Getting that b,f/f,b motion for dblplm or certain throws is crucial. You're probably hitting down between the back and forward, which is really common when starting on a Japanese stick.

With Japanese sticks, you have to use a lot more finesse than American sticks, so try not to 'force' your inputs, just get a feel for when the stick registers a direction and work from there.

The most important thing is to just keep using it, and no matter what, don't switch back to pad. You'll be fully comfortable with it in like 6 months.

6 months to be confortable w/ a stick depends on what level you were w/ the pad. if you could do all of akira's moves w/ a pad then you will need at least a year to be decent w/ a stick. This my personal experience.

Good luck on your training & transition to a stick, Enigmas002.

& Dandy_J what do you know about Pad Power? You, Kage using white trash!?

I recently made the same transition myself. I found that the biggest way to get good with the stick is to KEEP USING IT. When I first got the stick, I used it and within a week I was bored and frustrated with the whole concept, but after a month or so, you will become familiar with it, and from there you will laugh at the fact that you once used a pad.
    Remember, keep practicing.

It took me a long time to adjust from pad to stick (way back in 99!) but it was definetley worth. You automatically feel more at home when playing in an arcade. It took me about 6 months to adjust 'back in the day', but no using a pad for a fighting game just feels so so wrong. Although, I do know a few players who are really good, so each to their own I guess.

Its akward alright lol, But the plan now is hours and hours of practice in btw classes and work . Appreciate the advice guys i will definitely keep up with it. WHICH way do you guys grip the joystick i've changing up to find what feels the most natural. I was just wondering which is the most common method of holding it.

I put the left side of my left hand parallel to the stick, putting my fingers completely around the top.

You can also your 3rd and 4th finger underneath the ball, this is a method used a lot of by tekken mishima player's who wavedash a lot.

As long as it's comfortable to YOU, that's what matter's!

If you have trouble with DLC try training in slow-motion. It may seem weird but it will help you with your inputs. Also, try to do the move piece by piece. Which means, do dragon lance, then dragon lance-dashing elbow, then DLC altogether. If you also have trouble with his ABC do the same thing for it. This technique helped me when I made the move to stick.
