recently it came to my attention that a lot of the registered users here have participate in somethin martial arts related (practical). i was just day dreaming the other day, when it came to me that i used to take karate classes /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif back when i was a young lad /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. but later dropped out since we were moving to virginia. i was a green or an orange belt.

i guess that explains why im always throwing out punches n' kicks /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

do you have a martial arts background????im only interested in hearing the truth, not like "i was this, i was that...been at it since 1978" /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I took two aikido classes, but I moved here in US from the Philippines. I never got interested though. The only reason I took those classes was because I thought I was gonna fight someone on the third day /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif. The guy didn't show up /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

So all the arts you train in that have and running next to them are the ones that you are only training in right now? or do you still train in the other stuff?

The "and running" are ones that I still train in with some sort of professional instruction. All the other arts I practice, but its more just practicing what I know.

Yes I've read about this art and it sounds like the most practical of the karate styles, it also sounded real tough to do.

Hate to be the one to say this but if you would have used the search this topic has been covered before. And to top it of it's a fun read (you'll se what I mean when you find the thread and notice it going bonkers).

    Cheers / KiwE.

well, that depends on the viewer's eye, I suppose. It's going by the name of "the strongest karate", so it has a lot to live up to. Basically, it's loads of push-ups and sits-ups and (don't know the englisk word, we just reply to it as "angel jumps"). Then, there's a lot of streching, so that we can twist our bodies in every direction we should want. I don't know much about other martial arts, but in comparison, I think it is a "boring" type of fighting- there's no 'fancy' moves, only devestating ones. It's also going by the philosophy that the shortest way to the target is the best, add on some serious hip-swinging, and you're almost there. The punches and kicks (no throws) are with almost no exeptions applieable in real street fighting (it is basicly self-defense), but fewer are allowed in turnaments, even fewer practical, so it's boring to watch if you're not into it...

    click the grey "video clip"

Of the martial arts that do not apply holding and throws, I think kyokushinkai is one of the very best, if not the best

    pkg_inc -

The movie was pretty sick. It's hard to imagine that kind of force generated from a traditional western Boxer. I like the directness of karate styles too, but tend to focus on entire body mechanics in the style of kung fu I'm learning, choy li fut. On the side I'm taking Yang style tai chi to complement the hardness of the kung fu, so to answer your question Rose, Tai Chi combatives(known as push hands) are all about planting your feet on the ground while shifting back and forth to redirect an opponent's energy and throwing him off balance. By using Tai chi on its own, you will never win a fight, but in conjunction with an aggressive form of combative it does wonders. btw, I only started taking tai chi but can see how it greatly enhances the relaxed power of choy li fut and even in grappling.
