I have this game on preorder, but I might not get it until maybe four days after it releases here tomorrow. Use this thread to discuss the game, but use common sense and make use of spoiler tags when mentioning key aspects of the story.

Once I get the game, I'll post whether or not the preorder content was any good here.

I'm way hyped. I just recently (couple weeks ago) played ME1. I've had a big prejudice against western RPGs for some time, but ended up loving ME.

Me too, Fallout 3 was what had brought me in though - 08 winter. And when I had played ME1 for the first time a year ago when my best friend had brought it over, I thought it looked and played lame(having not played it myself), even after Fallout 3 got me into enjoying WRPGs.

I had copped ME1 on a steam deal a couple months after that, when it dropped down to 9.99, and had never looked back. It's one of the best games I've ever played. And now, WRPGs are better than the old school stuff I used to like, such as Final Fantasy.

If I wasn't broke, I'd have ME2 preloaded on my steam ready to download in 30 min. But I'll have to wait to get the game.

That's the nice thing about single player games compared to fighters. I played ME1 how late compared to its release? Didn't phase my enjoyment at all. She'll be there when you're able to play [IMG]

I bought ME for the hell of it about a month after release. It was a BioWare RPG, so there was a high chance that it would be good, like KOTOR.

It was. It was better than KOTOR in fact, and because of that, I wasn't missing out on this one.

I preordered my copy yesterday and it shipped today. Should be here tomorrow or Thursday.

Got it this afternoon.. Haven't played too much yet, but to me it's already even better than ME1. The weak points are gone and turned into strong points, the strong points are pretty much the same. Not gonna say any more, just buy it and play it!

^Man, no understatement in saying they improved greatly on ME1. Combat is like, actually full-on enjoyable now. Everything feels crisp. Menu transitions breeze by compared to before. Conversations are much more cinematic and less dull. Game's already great.

I heard that it's more shooter and less RPG this time around, any validity to that?

Yes and no. The menus and armor are a more user friendlier ( your teammates don't wear any) than the last one, the combat is more cover based than ever before and you now have to find ammo from enemies instead of waiting for cool down which is great. Also you (and the enemies) recover call of duty style by waiting in the corner and sucking your thumb.

^Yeah it's definitely more focused on combat this time around. Can't just sit in an open area and plug all your powers then shoot till they're dead. Headshots grant extra damage, and some enemies react differently depending on where you shoot them.

It's still very stat oriented and each class has large branching skill trees that allow for your own customization of the class.

Honestly one of the best things about mass effect is that its combat is FPS like. FPS combat is EASILY much more fun to play then a game like Dragon age's combat or WoW. Headshots are ALWAYS satisfying and in general you can always improve your aim, while in games like WoW, you'll be using the SAME sequence of spells over and over again.

and i saw the review, this game looks even better then ME1!
oh man i can't wait till i get the money for this lol!

Hmm, understandable, but could you give an example of a RPG game that has good combat that you prefer over FPS games? I like both games and it would be great to learn about games I haven't heard of before that have great features like combat.

Well WoW's arenas are a complete frantic fungasm. Also of note, to me, it isn't so much the combat that's important but the character / party customisation. I'm a numbers whore...

Same here. The character can wave the sword the same way all the time. However I want to know that I'll see 20 points of dmg more when my char is glowing blue from a bless spell and resists X dmg when wearing a special armor, etc. Number numbers numbers and story is all I need from an RPG [IMG]

I generally like the numbers aspect too, but you can still have numbers and stuff AND have fps (which is exactly what ME is lol).

doing quests to get SICK new armor or w/e is one of the things that makes rpgs addicting, but of course first and foremost the story matters most.

I just prefer shooting something over clicking flame bolt over and over o_O, and I prefer some actual skills needed, or a high degree of strategy involved in combat as well that doesn't involve sticking to one pattern of attacks like freezing constantly in DA. Atleast in a FPS rpg, you can practice your aim and getting headshots even if the combat is repetitive, in rpgs ur just hitting the same buttons and ur brain turns off o_O.

I still prefer turn based "Choose-your-move" shit.

I played Mass Effect but I never really enjoyed it. I think a large portion of that was to do with the music. The gameplay was okay I guess. I wouldn't say it was great but it was different that's for sure.

It's different and it appeals to a lot of other people but it just isn't for me.

The voice acting was good though. I liked the Street Shark's voice.
