I want to provide some links to some interesting articles, studies, and opinions. I want to first off state how wrong and naive the above comment is. Media violence is something that has been around for decades. Whether it be a socio-path killer or someone stealing candy from the grocery store, violence and crimes are not synonymous with video games. Its one thing to argue that they could cause more violence but its another to outright claim they are proven to do so. It is NOT a fact nor has there been any hard data to support the on-going radical theories that drive it.

You state that these type of games are a direct cause of particular crimes. Unfortunately that is not true, if it was true then there would be an exponential raise in crime in the last few decade, when there is not. The reason for this is that Media Violence is a very small part of the cause for aggression and behavioral change in society, which is mentioned many times in multiple studies focused on media violence alone.

The majority of the crimes you mentioned are caused by parents, psychological state, the persons life, and many other factors not related to Media Violence. If you want to state that multiple areas of the media as well as some video games cause an instigation of particular behaviors then I could agree. But to cause these crimes? To say that playing GTA will drive a normal persons mind to believe that murder, rape, stealing, or any other crime is OK? Thats being unrealistic and illogical.

There is a reason I feel so strongly about this and its not because I play video games and want to see everyone ignore any negative connotations that have to do with them. Its no secret some games are violent and carry strong themes that would not be appropriate for many ages. Whats important here is that people who argue that games are a direct cause of crimes, especially ones in the nature you mention, fail to EVER mention what good video game do for all age groups. The good, if you were to take the time to study rather then ignore, more then outweighs the bad.

Video games have been under fire since they became popular in the mid to late 90's. With the release of the Mortal Kombat series we saw the beginning of this bad press and it hasn't ended since. Rather then focus the attention on the bad parenting or the lax environment of our school in regard to punishment and teaching, we focus elsewhere. There have been many arguments comparing this with the same reaction that Porn, Music, and even Comics received during their popular terms.

Anyways I want to finish this rant. It just really gets to me that some people will comment on games and call video game violence the catalyst for events that end in mass murder or the rape of a young child. Its unfair, biased, and most of all disregarding the truth.

** I provide some links here, most of which are neutral and leave no room for biased opinions. Given one I found which supports the latter rather then my own arguments , this was for argumentative purposes **

-- This article talks about addiction and the effect of long vs short term video game encounters. Which would obvisouly have negative effects and cause violence.

Well, I'm talking from a perspective from the 80s.

Hip Hop is the new devil music. It makes me wanna degrade womyns much like GTA games make me commit random acts of vehicular manslaughter.

It's proven and it is not a scapegoat for bad parenting.

There has been lots of research done on this and what they find is that there is a correlation in the amount of aggressive acts watched on TV and aggressive behavior exibited by adults. The thing is that it's a CORRELATIONAL study and if you dont' already know correlation doesn't imply causation. There is an equally strong argument that people who are aggressive to begin with are the ones who watch the aggressive acts on TV so there really isn't a conclusive answer as of yet. Most psychologists lean toward the second opinion though.

The Bible makes GTA look like a Disney flick. Not bashing on religion here, just making a "detail" analysis on what the Bible depicts towards chapters like revalations(It some grimey stuff)This generation of kids are not being raised by their parents or better yet, no father figure at all. Parents rather let a immigrant women, that can't barely speak english. Raised their kids. You think a nanny is going to lay the hammer down on a spoiled rotten child? Of course not. You don't hear kids in the ghetto bringing guns to school and shit, to kill the whole school. Is all this suburban kids wildly out.

Blaming the media for crime in this country is ridiculous. Is the freaking parents not raising their damn kids. Video Games is the new "Rock and Roll" Devils music, ha! When something goes wrong in society, they pick on something to latch on. Heavy Metal in the 80's, Rap in the 90's. Charles Barkely said it best. "I'm no role-model, raise your own damn kids"
