    Haha~
I think it's a good thing for more players to enjoy MGS4 just like TK6 as well~~

And the funny thing is that maybe in the future, we can play exactly the same games on both consoles....

Exactly. Multiplatform games help the developer get more returns for their investments in a games production. The more money they get back from each game, the more money they have to put towards future games.

i've had this conversation before, and while it sounds like a good idea in theory, let me assure you it just isn't happening in practice.

mgs4 is the first ps3 to take up an entire 50gb dual layered blu ray. this is not just for the single player campaign and game engine, but also for the cutscenes, mgo, etc.

assuming the game only installs the core elements of the game engine per act, it would be safe to assume that the game's engine takes up ~8gb (this is the size of the install file as it shows up in the xmb). the standard dvd is 12gb, leaving 4gb left for things like custcenes, etc.

now, granted, if they were to implement a mandatory install of these files (which would a: never be allowed by microsoft and b: probably end up much larger than 8gb, as the ps3 version deletes nonessential data between acts- and assuming the game came with one all encompassing install disc, it would all have to be installed at once), it could be a possibility. but then also keep in mind that mgs4 uses uncompressed, lossless audio at high frequencies (192khz isn't even a possibility for dvd-9). they'd have to compress the audio (not only because dvd is incompatible with it to begin with, but also to conserve space), which would presumably be done via flac or ogg, but then you have to write a codec compatible with the 360 to extract the compressed audio files, which could take up anywhere between 100kb to 1gb of disc space depending on the method it's programmed.

then, assuming you had the game engine on the hard drive, freeing up that 8gb per dvd, they'd still have to find a way to fit an entire act's worth of content onto a single disc (and that's being conservative- in actuality, the five acts would probably be split among 8 discs or more). and if they didn't have the game engine installed on the hard drive (which again, microsoft has clearly stated they won't let any developer do), they'd be especially screwed.

put that against the sheer number of hours put into converting the game between consoles (which, for a project as big as this, would either end up being done very well or incredibly shitty), the amount of employee time- and likewise, pay- that requires, along with the fact that the 360 still has a piss poor install base in japan and the majority of europe; they'd essentially be going through all of this trouble to please the 360 owners in the us (which are, undeniably, not to be underestimated, as they comprise the majority of game players in this country).

tl;dr: it's not happening because it's technically implausible (impossible?) and it wouldn't be worth the time and money put into it.

MS has too much money not to make this work.
MS compression techniques is good even if it was 2 or 3 discs it would'nt matter. after im done with disc 1 i'll i let somebody else hold it. If i had to change disc with RE:4 i can do it with this no problem. im not that lazy to not want to take a few steps to change a cd.
Also this game reaks of cutscenes and worthless dialog to be honest. One thing a 360 won't have to worry about is watching Snake smoke a Cig for about 7 minutes being reminded to take a break from playing because it has to load in the background lol!

Not arguing for or against it coming to 360. But wanted to say MS can at any point change their TRCs and other requirements. A good example of them doing so was the size cap they had on DLable games. They've since upped that.

But yeah I could care less if it comes to the 360. I'd hate to read all the fanboys blow up saying I told you so, but really, I'd rather more people be able to enjoy the game and support the company.

microsoft increased the download limit for xbla games because it was stupid to limit them so strictly. at the same time, i don't think it'd be a good idea to mandate installs for 360 games, simply because the 360 doesn't have the space available to have more than 2-5 games at a time (maybe not the case for the elites, but they're more the exception than the rule anyway).

and to help put this in perspective; mgs4 on 360 will sell in japan just as well as vf5 on 360 sold in japan. everyone who wanted to play tales of vesperia has already got their money's worth from their 360's over there, and it'll take more than mgs4 to get serious momentum going over there.

the other thing is that, while we may hear about it all the time since we primarily talk about it on the internet, mgs4 isn't really a popular game among 360 owners; nobody is going to buy the 360 in droves anywhere to get mgs4. quite honestly, metal gear as a series has lost much of the presence it once had back in 98-03 due in part to the dwindling popularity of sony's consoles since then. the only reason mgs4 sold any ps3's was because it was the only game most people even wanted on the ps3- which conveniently brings me to my last point on the matter.

sony has needed mgs4 to come out since the ps3 launched. they didn't have anything of note at any major press event other than mgs4 up until the moment it came out, and now that it's taken its course and had it's initial (rather weak) impact, they'll be stuffing konami's mouths with gold to keep it exclusive to the ps3. i don't think any kind of bribery or breach of contracts on microsoft's part is going to change that.

(as a brief disclaimer, i'm not biased towards or against any current gen console- vf5 is the only great game for either of them)

I hope it does come out for 360 any way it can (be it more disk, pre-installing on a HDD, etc) so I can finally get to play it. I can't afford to get a PS3 just for one game so this would be nice.

    Spending $60 > spending $560

form GAF"This article is about multiplatform strategy in general, and the article is written as an editorial, not as a news piece. They're simply quoting various producers from different third party publishers from previous interviews to cite their positions on multiplatform strategy"

And I believe multiplatform is BS in some case's.

The game does not -need- installs.

They don't need it to sell in Japan, it would do plenty well here. Heck, I bet half their sales would come from non-MGS fans who would get caught up in the hype of it being on their console now and for the fanboys to rub it in PS3 fanboys' faces lol.

PS3 doesn't -need- this title anymore. The launch is over, it sold its consoles, sales have already diminished. This is not surprising because no matter how much publicity and production went into it, MGS is still considered to be a niche title as a whole.

And this would not be the first time we've seen MGS on an XBOX.

All that said though, I agree we probably won't see it on the 360.

    Quoted for truth!

Videogames have longer developing times and more money spent on production these days, so multiplatform releases are kinda necessary.
