I don't know any other gamereview sites opinion I trust more then gamespots tbh. Anyways, their review says that the latest MK's onlinefunctions are working well. Here's what's said especially:

Online play is a major attraction in MK: Deception. You can play puzzle kombat or chess kombat online, but the regular one-on-one fighting is where the real action is. It's easy to get into a match, and we experienced surprisingly smooth, lag-free gameplay in each of the different online modes, which is impressive considering this is the first-ever online-enabled 3D fighting game to hit consoles. Furthermore, the game's very timing-intensive, which would make lag not just noticeable but quite detrimental.

    Fun stuff.

I'm getting this game today. I'll post some of my thoughts on the online quality later.

I'm curious to see an impression of a real life experience of the online element, seeing as how I've trashed the possibilty of it before. This should be a benchmark for how DOA will be with it's online element. I tend to distrust most reviews as they seem to base it on an unrealistic setting.

Uhg I wish I had a review of the online, but the game itself is awesome. I am truly deeply impressed by the revamp of MK .First off, the eye candy is there in abundance. The stages are delicously designed and choc full of surprises. As for content the minigames are very fun, TONS of stuff to unlock, and the quest mode (from the little bit that I played of it, seems just as fun as the game. The fighting system imho isn't on par with VF, SC or Tekken but its definitely doesnt take away from the game like it did in some of the mortal kombats before it.

As of now I give this game an 8.5 out of 10. I cant wait to play the online and see if it is problem free. Well no online game is problem free...

ps / edit : Oh yeah, Noob - Smoke is the most awesome fighting game character design and application I have ever seen. Its nirvana to watch their technique and animations.

    Re: MK Deception

i have been playing online since tuesday. I played about 80 matches so far and out of that 80 I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCE ONE DROP OF LAG! Only TWICE I had a disconnection. BUT, THAT WAS BEFORE THE MATCH EVEN BEGAN. Either the connection failed or the persn change there mind. I don't know. MK is definitely no VF and anyone that plays the game or is willing to give it a try should not judge it by VF standards. Other than that the game is just incredibly awesome. The Kombat mode, chess mode and puzzle mode are just too good. Mk's style of fighting is not suited for everyone, but the puzzle mode alone is well worth picking up the game. I guarantee you will die laughing when you see the little SD characters fighting it out. Sometimes, one of them will randomly give the other a presents and the reciever gets filled with so much joy only to open it and have it blow up in their face. It's just so damn funny. And even in puzzle mode, MK would not be MK without fatalities. I won't spoil it for anyone. You have to see just how cute, sadistic and funny those SD chars can be. heh I am making myself a little excited. I think I am going to go play online. I am ranked #100+, by the end of the night I bet I will be in the top 50. Well as long as people stop quitting on me. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif I use Nightwolf and everyone thinks I am too cheap. It's funny as hell to hear all the whining, because of LIVe headsets. I never respond though. I just play. I only talk to friends. By the way for any Sarah players out there. NIghtwolf's Tae Kwan Do stance(don't know how to spell it) is kind of similar to Flamingo stance. Well I am off to play.... Later all!

Seems hella nice. The movement of fightinggames online will probably be the start of fightinggames truelly blossoming to unknown proportions imo. A new era is about to unfold and the good news is that it will, in the end, probably benift the most technicall and balanced games just as it does in the pc world. Rantmode off.

Can you turn of the live headset in order to get some extra bandwith (or is it just to fun hearing ppl whine to not do so)? /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

<font color="yellow">XxRodnutzxX </font> be warned I never use my headset... to much whining. And for some reason because you can talk with xbox games. People feel the need to rant on about the most random shit. It's just to annoying when you just want to play the game and have fun. But if you ask real nice I might make an exception for good friends /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Damn, I didn't know you were playing on xbox live. I have the PS2 version. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif Since I don't have an xbox, I'll just have to play you next time I visit NYC then.

Once again, Online mode is awesome. It's fun to enter a room and get challenged to a match right away, just like a crowded arcade. Everyone's still learning the moves/strats, but I'm sure there's lots of cheap shit to be discovered. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Overall it seems like the fighting engine is basically the same as deadly alliance, but with a few tweaks. I've experimented and found some decent 30% damage combos for Sub Zero, but nothing more damaging than that.

The new improved multi-tiered levels are awesome. I also love the new hidden weapons, death traps and the overall dark, evil mood of this game.

Konquest mode is fairly straightforward like I expected. Unlocking secret characters, levels, etc. is the only reason I'm playing this at all because the story/voice acting isn't that great. I didn't expect it to be zelda anyway, so it's ok.

Online is IMO what makes this game fun overall, even though it's nothing more than a dial-a-combo system.

    Re: MK Deception

I've been playing this game for a few days now. It really is exceptional. The gameplay is far from VF's, but that doesn't keep it at all from being fun and competitive to play. The extra modes are great and all (except konquest which is boring as hell) but the online feature is definately gonna give this game replayability and a lifespan like never before. After that deadly alliance crap fest, the mk team has really outdone themselves. The cast is actually pretty exceptional despite the "heroes" all being gone, the stages look awesome, especially the classic ones, and some of those fatalities and hara kiris (tanya...) are sick as hell.
The gameplay though is really flawed, but like i said, fun as hell. Characters though are mad broken. Stay away from Kabal if you're playing knowledged players, he's terrible. Kobra, Scorpion, Baraka, and Tanya are shaking out to be the top players right now. The verdict is still out on Mileena. Her damage potential is real low, but some people are saying she can be top tier with some practice.

Yeah Baraka definitely seems like top tier. Noob Smoke is also a bitch to deal with. I use Sub-Zero and Ermac, and I've managed to get some decent wins versus the cheap characters.

I'm wondering how many players on this site have the game now. What about setting up a private room(PS2 version) for VFDC players?

    Re: MK Deception

it's funny that you guys find noob / smoke, baraka, kobra, etc... hard to beat. I have no problems with any of those chars. I agree noob smoke is hard to deal with. All the person does is turtle. So to beat there ass you have to take it back to the basics... After Smoke does the little cloud stay semi close... The moment it's fading away, just rush him. He only has 2 options. Tag out or try to defend himself. Guess right and he is fucked. Just watch out for the tag move that brings in noob with the dive kick from above. Also when there hiding being the smoke cloud. Throw alot of projectiles the first couple of times. Eventually that fucker will try to teleport through the floor to get you. When he does! FREE COMBO! Baraka on the other hand is a little tricky. You have to take riskes of just crouching and not blocking. The moment something wiffs just uppercut. Because all, and I mean ALL baraka players just want to use that rush attack, where he charges in with the blades. Just crouch it's a high attack. He wiffs, you upper... HOMERUN! Only char I had some trouble with is tanya, but I only fought 1 tanya out of my 130+ games. I am working on raiden now, once I get him down, people better prepare for an ass whooping. Teleport throw owns! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

right now my record is about 130 wins and 27 losses... first 20 was on first day trying to learn moves and understand the system. /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Now that I understand the system a little better, it's hard for people to get a win out of me. /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif The key to winning IMO is go for the big combos early and force your opponent to waste ALL there breakers in the first round. Once there gone, easy pickings. I bet that's why everyone has a hard time with noob / smoke. By the time you get in to do damage he breaks and sets the whole keep away game back up again.

Yeah, Noob Smoke gave me lots of problems at first, but it's not so hard now. I didn't know that baraka blade move was high! /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Thanks for that info. You're right, all baraka players do is whore this move.

Jerky: My screen name online is <font color="yellow"> DREVFDC </font>. I'm always in the beginner room (most crowded room) so I shouldn't be too hard to find. Maybe we can create a private room just for VFDC players if enough people want.

WHATEVER! he needs to play ME! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif
