Got MW2 Yesterday and I'm already hooked, agree about the heart sensor I spent more time looking at the sensor than the main screen, its useful but it would have been better if they did it like the sattelite scanner in Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, that scanner doesn't interfere with the gameplay.

I can use a heartbeat sensor for the simple fact i don't wait for opponent to show up on radars because Ninja perks can make you look stupid. trust you instinct and when turning corners keep your sights aimed so you'd be quick on the draw.

So I had bought this game over a week ago but I hadn't opened the wrapping until yesterday afternoon. The game is pretty crazy. At first, when the warning pops up about skipping levels, I thought, "what could they be talking about that could be that bad?"

When I actually played the first level I believe they were referring to (Airport level) I was officially disturbed. I seriously hope they ID kids who are buying this game because I thought that level was pretty fucked up. Easily to most disturbing video game level I have personally ever played. I don't think they should have levels like that in games at all and I don't think I would have ever said that before seeing that shit. It just isn't fun to me and it doesn't send a good message to anyone who is even slightly impressionable...

I know it's a video game and it's not real, but it is ultra-realistic. I mean, it's as realistic as they could make it. I honestly think content like that is just not a good idea in these days of high school shootings and wackos going on gun-wielding rampages. Unfortunately, people do those types of things IRL and it's not something that has a place in "game" IMO...

What do you guys think? Am I way off base here?

I agree Gernbergs. That stage just didn't need to be there. My face during it. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

It wasn't even particulary necessary for the story, just a way to cause controversy. And you're right, i don't like the thought of the young'uns playing through that stage.

i was actually pretty apathetic to the stage. For me video games just don't register as simulation of reality to a meaningful extent. I youtubed "no russian" but got little more than, eh, that's a lil messed up. I guess it just looks to me like shooting polygonal, computer rendered, fake people.

All that being said, it was kind of a waste really. There is no chance at dying. They could have served the same purpose and plot advancement by making u play the "good" side of the incident and only switching to the bad side after the civilian part or whatever. And really, at the time i liked the plot point of the frame job, but in hindsight the whole plot got so ludicrous that it made less impact (the plot that is).

But given today's climate, and the insignificance or level thereof, it seemed like they could have/should have just skipped it. And people can be impressionable. I'm sure there is some mentally disturbed youth, taking a break from torturing neighborhood cats, to play No Russian twice a day for some perverse thrill. And that is something they should have had the wherewithall to just avoid entirely, IMO.

On a tangent, i was really digging the plot, and thought the campaign had mood and ambience like probably no game i've ever played before. But as they started tying up the plot it got to a point of ridiculousness that i was JUST playing for the in between action. The music, the distinct settings, the moods, the atmosphere, i was blown away. The stage where u are in a suburban town, and u run thru the backyard with high grass and a doghouse with worn out dirt around it, and cross out the broken fence...it was just sublime.

Too bad all the plot got so silly. Too bad (for me at least) it didn't follow a more linear, logical path of a soldiers experience. Or something different anyway.

Yes but surely that raises some questions about society in that we should have to sensor a creative endevour for fear of the reprecussions.

I found the level shocking, it's possibly the strongest scene I've witnessed in a videogame but I was aware that it was a videogame. I read one justification of the level which was that it put the rest of the plot in context and drew the player in. Which it did, perfectly. How can you not emphasize with such a horrific situation?

Also I found it kinda cool cause it points the finger at the player 'how are you going to react?'. Me personnally I went along with it cause I was an undercover guy so I did the bere minimum so that I thought wouldn't break my cover and just walked along behind them trying not to participate.

One thing I did find kinda pointless about the game was the mueseum at the end. And the fact that you can shoot these statues that suddenly come to life writhing in pain. I think I found that oddly more sickening. The no Russian thing was a job, if you think of all that was at stake, in that situation you'd have to go along with it. The statues in the mueseum wern't doing anything, which tbh I found more gratuitous.

Gotta say one of my favourite points was when you fell off the favela and had to run to the chopper without any guns, how cool was that?!

    social_ruin Well-Known Member

that is the same thing i did. i mean, i shout one or 2 civilians, but after that, i just didn't see any point to participate.

Yeah that was cool, the favela scene. Otherwise, i really liked the scenes where they were playing kinda sad dreary music, and it was like, yes i'm shooting people in this apocalyptic war zone but almost like they were sad to be doing it. Like, i think on the way to whiskey hotel.

Then when you were flying around the Gulag, MAN did that look good. Best use of the Nextgen graphics i've seen yet.

It's almost sad they don't work some majestic set-pieces into the multiplayer.

The gulag bit was cool. I think everything up untill they invaded America was awesome after that it became a liiittle bit ridiculous for me. I mean I don't know the logistics of invading America but I'm pretty sure a battered to fuck, post cold-war Soviet Union couldn't.

Also I just wanna point out here. I'm not sure if me saying there are only two hitboxes was accurate. I'm sure I read it somewhere but I can't find the source and I can't find any info on what hitboxes there actually are. Except that gamefaqs thing which reckons there are 4; head, chest, stomach and limbs.

ITt really does'nt matter because at the End You STILL Die. So even if you don't pull the trigger you end up just like the civilians. Also if you even played Grand Theft or Hulk or Prototype you can kill civilains and get away with it lol!!!

If you want to mention a scene that had no reason being there that you can control was the Astronaut perspective of Price's detination of the nuclear warhead. He sacrificed his (Astronauts.) life to save millions lol!!!

  10. AnimalStaccato

    AnimalStaccato Well-Known Member

Yeah but grand theft is kinda cartoony and prototype is a super hero romp. This was ultra realistic, also those are all third person games.
    Thats true.
How did he get sacrificed? I thought he just got blown away by the EMP of the nuke.

  11. SDS_Overfiend1

    SDS_Overfiend1 Well-Known Member

Yeah the Russians was going use the nuclear so Price set it off rather than just shutting it down. The scene was played out to make us think Price turn traitor because he said "good" after the missile was fired. you would've assumed he had other plans because of him wanting Makaev so bad. I hated the fact that the story ending with the Brits killing a U.S. General and letting Makaev get away because they have things in commom. Not to say the sheperd did'nt deserve it but i hated the fact there were to many control player deaths Story wise.

"He wasn't helping the Russians, he was helping win the war. The nuke went off in the upper atmosphere, so the radiation didn't hit the US (it was blocked by the lower layers), but it did destroy the ISS (International Space Station). Nuclear weapons have an EMP effect, which knocks out electronics in the blast radius. Price knew that the Russians had more or less taken America's east coast, so he set off the nuke to destroy all their equipment and slow their advance."

You're right man, that bit went right over my head. I thought he'd failed to get to the nuke, the Russians had launched it and it had hit America.

Yah but the general thing was personal, heck man if someone killed my buddies like that I would've wanted to do the same.

I hear footsteps like woa unless they have ninja pro. Maybe just your sound effects volume is low or you're encountering a lot who have ninja pro equipped. Also, the surface which they're on makes a big difference. If they're on something softer, like grass or soft dirt, their footsteps are very faint.

so i was thinking about our no russian conversation, and the more i think about it, i really do think that infinity ward pulled off on the act a little. I mean, we were discussing about how it was disturbing, and how we felt about them going there.

But i think they had to have considered taking it even further. Even if all the more in depth they got is, we can't make it more personal.

Here is what would have made it disturbing for me, and would have been too far IMO. As is, i said they felt like polygonal, fake people. But what's if they didn't? How disturbing would that be? Notice their were no kids? No families? This scene could have gotten real disturbing in personal with a few touches. Make it christmassy (don't know if they celebrate that in russia). Holiday travels. Families. Having the civilians look like they had an emotional investment in each other. Someone throwing themselves in front/over their kids. People weeping over a body. Etc. I'm glad they didn't do this mind you. But i am guessing that when IW made this scene, they were very conscience of what it wasn't. And in that light, what they were left with felt maybe more like it felt in their video game.

this is true but who wishes they could open fire with rubber bullets on the non-appreciative rush hour new yorkers lol!!! I mean the loud obnoxious cell phone gawkers who rush for seats and make it there buissiness to talk loud for everyone to hear. shit i do and i hope in MW3 i get to light up times square as a Talib terrorist with AK 47's silenced and Gase grenades while having a shoot outs with Undercover cops and special units.

I was particularly bothered by the injured people dragging themselves across the ground leaving a blood trail behind them. I'm not one to call for censorship at all but, if I were the developer, I would not have gone there. I don't think it's wise.

I think you have to know that even though your game is rated M, kids are going to get their hands on it and play. Knowing that, I would have chosen to leave subject matter like terrorists killing an airport full of innocent people out of the game. I'm 29 years old and I found it pretty disturbing, it's just not "game" material to me cause it's not fun. It's not something I want kids to see, play or fantasize about... Ever.

    REGARDING MULTIPLAYER:

The multiplayer is pretty dope. The levels are so detailed and cool, it totally raises the bar. However, I freaking SUCK so bad. I just get papped all over the place. I have been using the class with the sub machine gun, magnum and flash grenades (wish I could remember the name right now!) but I've been getting slaughtered. Are the guns balanced? Are the classes balanced?

Who should I use to hold my own a little better???

The multiplayer is more team based now and punishes for you run and gun. you need to find a good team that communicate. If you have to run and gun you should try dual shotguns with stoping power and pray your twitch is as good as you think it is.

lol, man i suck too. Find an assault rifle you like (or sub machine) and unlock the heartbeat sensor. At least then u have an idea where people are. I found the HB sensor causes me to creep around cautiously looking for their HB and play at a much more deliberate pace. I don't get "papped" quite as much. REALL REALLY REALLY helped me. I even sometimes break even K/D ratio. And have had a handful of games where i a ahead.

Also what helped me was using commando and getting some knife kills. It may be noobish...but i am a noob. [IMG]

Well its gonna be a Two man Mission LOL!!!... SDS Overfiend and MarlyJay. We'll call it "NO VF5R" Im going to use wolfs VF5R theme as the background music. the Second chapter will be Oxford street.

Hey Social learning the maps and hots spot are all crucial. stopping power is your best friend. Keep in mind MW2 is like COD4 when you think you covered behind something your not your not. Camp and play it safe.My gun of choice is M16 or Famas. Triple shot burst allows from one button press kills instead of firing blinding holding down the trigger since you are kinda a noob. The Kickback is minimal and the guns are pretty accurate. Keep in Mind your aim is to get a kill streak so support can do the rest. Heartbeart sensor are no good. IT may seem like its worth it but i will cause you to take you eye of the real radar and it cover up the bottom left portion of your screen and this is bad incase you perched above something and enemies with Jammers on run past you. Your eyes and ears are everything.
