In case anyone says, I DID search on the boards and did find some info on what tricks to use with Lion in kumite. But the AI still keeps kicking my can! If anyone can whoop the AI mercilessly without a sweat, please contribute to this post and help all of us Lions out there. I know that [4][P][K] works on the AI a lot, and also [K][K]. But the AI always stuffs my [8][K][K]. If anyone has any more tips, contribute! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How about try digesting the best information you're likely to get, from this Lion strategies thread, which you started.

Look, nobody's holding top secret information from you. Your game will improve over time through lots of practice. Just play more. Watching other good players on movies can also help (check Media board for that).

Try using [4_][P][P][K] then [8_][P] to jump on him.

Plus, I see tons of these topics for other characters, even guides for kumite! I search, and search, and search some more and i dont find much on kumite lion topics. I KNOW that if there is near guarenteed stuff for every other character, there must be some for lion. I can surely say that person vs. person strategies dont fare very well with the computer. So I PLEASE request that someone out there can make some sort of lion kumite guide such as the sarah and akira and kage and lei-fei ones that i see around these boards, so that other noobs that may forget the search button will be able to go to one place to see some help.

Practice and get better through skill, rather than cheesing the computer? Just a suggestion.

When playing the computer, it's not like fighting another person, but skill will help. The computer isn't uber powerful and it doesn't cheat. It just has skills.

I try to get better, i train everyday! It's just that somehow, poking and okizeme alone with the occasional [4][4][K] and FC [6][P] arent enough. I try to evade. They catch me with a natural combo such as [P][P][2][K] or something of that nature. I try to block. They overwhelm me with natural combos and throws. I try to get some offense going. Every move I throw at them is blocked easily. I watch chibita videos religiously and incorporate his attacks into my gameplay. The computer counters. Well, If anyone has any advice for me, how i can get better at vf4, then please feel free to post here. Until then, im moving on to soul calibur until i can find some way to become a decent lion player.

ok ... first off, don't move over to Soul Calibur. Sure, you'll beat the computer easily and feel like you're good, but you'll get a lot more satisfaction out of playing VF.

Secondly, are you throwing a lot when they're blocking your attacks? When the computer starts blocking, start throwing them. Then when they throw out moves to stop the throw, poke them out of the moves and combo them.

You're playing VF4 right? You should go out and get EVO tomorrow. Lion's game is vastly improved. Also, in EVO, they have many different training sessions that can help you get better. For example, Tactics advance shows you key combos that you can use when an opponent is predictable, or that you can use to follow up with pokes. Lion's sabaki punch is really good. There's a whole multitude of things that you can do... When I play a good lion player, they poke me out of my attacks or dodge them, and put constant pressure on me. Then, when I screw up, they do the throw into the double kick, or a floater into a huge combo. When the computer screws up, learn to use floaters, so that Lion can dish out more damage. The tactics advance section will help you with air combos too.

Don't give up on VF so quickly, and get EVO, it's 20 bucks and it's a LOT better. Quest mode is much more fun than Kumite anyway, and there are more bonuses for playing. I'm sorry I was so harsh in the last post... if you have any more questions please let me know. Also other qualified Lion players should help.

I don't know where you're from, but try to find VF players in your area too. They can help you a lot.

I can see what you are saying. In fact, Virtua Fighter 4 is the first fighter i've really played. You've convinced me to keep goin strong with vf4, so i will. Thanks. I guess my main problem is when the computer gets goin and they start getting aggressive with series and such, I turtle up and i start getting punished with throws and other attacks that i just cant block all at once. Then when i hit them with a poke such as [6][P], [P] or [2][P], I dont know how to follow it up. [P]+[K] and [4][4][K] seem to be good, but it isnt enough in some cases. Anybody know some ways to keep my flow going, and how to start it? I live in Maryland, so soon when my sister gets her license and becomes my chauffeur, I can start looking around maryland for some evo groups. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif I wasn't thinking of getting evo before you told me not to give up so thanks a lot. If any lion players have AIM my screenname is SkaterUnlimited and i am online mostly all day so i would appreciate any help.

=) Glad to see you're not giving up!

I'm not a lion player so I can't give you specific advice, but one combo that is pretty easy (looking) is the flip throw where they bounce off the ground, and then you follow up with the jumping double kick. I don't know if that's hard or not... but it works.

Also, make sure that you know how to dodge. If the computer is just doing straight strings, dodge and combo them if you can. If there is a spinning attack, they are generally vulnerable after it so you can throw/combo them if you can duck/block it.

Go into the training in VF4 and practice throw escapes too... even though it's really difficult, it becomes very important at high level play.

Yeah dodgeing, blocking without turtleing up, and throw escapes are what I need to work on.

[1][K] then pounce their behind to death. Another one that works is [4][3][P] then pounce again. As soon as the fight starts do the famous juggle[4][4][K] [P][K] [6][6][K][K] then pounce.

main rule: never get stuck in a series of combos..just blocking and waiting for a guaranteed throw/hit move won't take you anywhere.

In this game, defense is the best offense, and the best defence is the offence. Evade and counter-attack to defend yourself, and defend only when needed.

The quest: win 2 matches in a row without guarding is perfect to train your evading, dodging, and dashing skills. The more you fear to be hit, the more you're hit. Never be afraid of getting hit, and never wait for their turn to attack, wait for the moment to land the hit. And that's not necessarely when they attack, or miss an attack.

Another hint: most noobies forget something: keeping on landing mid and high attacks or throws might not take you anywhere.
Sometimes if your enemy is guarding high during your combo, interrupt it with a fast low attack like [2]+[P] to prevent yourself from being counter-attacked or throwed.
And remember to use berserk skills if you're using lion. High attacks: only if the enemy is in a guaranteed hit situation.
Mid and low attacks: mix these up if he's blocking. And sometimes, use delays to hit them during evades, Lion's perfect with that.

This was my contribution, I hope I've been useful.
