I'm here to announce that, after an eternity of hard work and sleepless nights, DanielThomas.org is finished and on the web. This site is truly a labor of love, and I want everybody to come visit.

Since I'm an artist, much of this site is devoted to that, with an extensive collection of art galleries. There are also sections devoted to political essays, videogames, movies, and whatever else comes up. Currently, I have reviews of Daytona USA (the DC version) and Herzog Zwei; a review of "Grave of the Fireflies" (one of my absolute favotire films); a terrific Herzog Zwei strategy guide; and a nice editorial where I question the White House's sanity (who isn't?). Oh, and I think I badmouth Starbucks, too -- that's always fun.

Anyway, enjoy the new site! I especially want to thank the VFDC crew; this website was a strong influences, and I'm eager to hear your impressions.

Hi. I liked the site. In the spirit of comments are welcome:
-The "upgrade your browser!@#" thing is lame. Keeping a healthy distance from the newest microsoft browser (and other products) is just good housekeeping for your computer. It's not like 5.5 is old.

-The watercolors on canvas I liked. The rest didn't do much for me... a lot of the stuff looks pastel'd, like a slight layer of gray was on it. That could be something caused by the scanning process though.

-Kudos for giving recognition to the first true RTS game. Funny it didn't catch on for a decade. Ever get a chance to play military madness?

-Just downloaded grave of the fireflies from someone maybe 2 weeks ago, I liked it. I normally don't go for anime that doesn't involve guns, breasts, or vampires.

    Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for the input, it means a lot.

It's funny that you mentioned Military Madness. I was just playing that game while writing the Herzog Zwei review a couple days ago. I have emulators for practically every console system on my computer, so I can quickly pull up something for reference. That's how I ended up writing about Herzog (via the excellent Gens emu).

A new DVD of Grave of the Fireflies was released a few months ago, and it's terrific. There is a second disk loaded with extras: interviews with Roger Ebert, Isao Takahata, and Studio Ghibli; a "then and now" look at the movie's Kobe locations; a historical look at Allied firebombing in WWII; promotional material; and loads of storyboards. And the film itself has been digitally remastered with both subtitles and English dubbing. The DVD only costs $20-25, which makes it a must-have for anyone who loves the movies.
