Hey, Llanfair... when and where did said matches take place? I've been looking for some competitive play in Toronto for a while now, but I can't ever seem to get together with anybody... or find anybody who's really serious about the game.

Yesterday's matches were at an arcade in Metro Square (Steeles, 1km east of the 404 just west of Warden) called Amusement Plus (used to be called Enter La). There's a good group of competitive VF4 Evo players in Toronto. We'd be more than happy to have you come out and join us. We also play at Video Amusements on Eglington at Brimley (south side of Eglington, just west of Brimley in a strip mall). Metro Square is a nicer arcade and the sticks, imo, are slightly better.

Next Saturday, we're having a good get together, likely on freeplay (everyone chips in 10 bucks or so...) We'll start at 12:00pm and go until 2:00 am or so. A Saturday marathon of VF4 Evo!

My temporary email address is oblewis@hotmail.com - you can get a hold of me anytime. Also, there's a thread in jamboree entitled "[HORSEMEN]..." Toronto players use that as a means to let others know when and where they'll be for VFing. You can arrange through that too.

Have you been playing Evo? If so, who have you been using and where do you play?

    cheers,

hey llany, not to pick on you over the carefully thought out point system, but how come johnson wins at ~75%, and you're at ~50%, but johnson is only like ...13% higher on the point scale? Special Bonuses? Or the increase is exponential in a strange way, and breaking xxxx points is harder than it sounds?

Well, mainly because your points are not based on your win percentage entirely. It's also about the difference in points between you and your opponent. Ie, someone with a low point rating will get more points for beating an opponent of higher rating than if two players are evenly rated. Get what I mean? Put it this way, when playing opponents who are much better than you, you have a smaller chance of winning, right? Well, your points assigned for winning matches is based on that. So, what it boils down to is that it's about *who* you beat. Someone could beat down a lesser ranked opponent 100 times in a row, have a 85% win rate, but get little points because they're *supposed* to beat down on lesser rated opponents.

    Hope that's clearer.

    cheers,

Thanks a lot for the info, with any luck I'll be able to join you guys to play some time soon. I haven't played any Evo yet, and for the most part don't get a chance to play in arcades all that often either. I spend a lot of time playing on my PS2 (though not so much so, of late). When I do play in arcades, I've to played at Metro Square (a few times, but competition, or people playing anything at all were pretty scarce when I was out there.) I also used to play in the 'Orbital' (?) arcade above P-Mall, when they had the Vs. City VF4 cabinet in there. I'm a decent player, but lack the experience and practice against competent human players to really be able to claim to have a respectable amount of skill :p. Anyways, as I said, thanks for the info, and I'll try to read up on when the TO people get together to play.
