1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

netscape friendly board?

I am wondering if it is possible to make this board netscape friendly?? I am using a Sun workstation at work and thus DO not have IE. When I use netscape 4.something, I cannot see the post icons and reply icons and cannot post. Is there anything way around? Any browser that will work on Solaris??

I suggest giving Mozilla a try. It maybe alpha/beta but it's certainly better than NS4.

    Thread moved to General board.

Anyway, Alan, could you tell me what version of Netscape you're running at work? Is it not possible to upgrade to a later version of Netscape, or as kbcat suggested, Mozilla? Also, this site looks/runs fine under Netscape 6, and AFAIK Netscape 4.7x is alright too.

I'm using Netscape 4.72 from work and VFDC works fine, but I still prefer the way Explorer handles it when I'm at my home computer. BTW, VirtuaProject is not Netscape friendly either.... :-< too bad I have zero control over what's available at work. Ooh, the one thing that isn't working on Netscape is the new Dural logo... it's just blankness. It doesn't even register that there's an image of some sort on that part of the page.

I've been trying to get VP more in tune with NS. It's a bit better--the tables don't look like crap anymore -- it still keeps logging out though. Note, try Mozilla if you can for both VFDC and VP. I find Mozilla to be a bit better than NS.

Okay, I used to be a NS diehard until 4.5+ when stability went down the tubes... then I switched to IE 5 and never looked back. So forgive my ignorance, but isn't everybody who's using NS right now a NS diehard, and presumably they should all go download NS 6+? =P

Thanks again for the work on VP. It looks better everytime I go there. =)

    Hey Myke,

Is there any way to specify image border = 0 when using the <url> </url> markup tags? Just so you can link images in sigs without having the unsightly border appear?

Edit: actually, the better question is, is it possible to map <image> and </image> markup tags to <img src=... <font color=orange>border=0</font color=orange>> HTML tags?

Yay! Thanks Myke! Now I have a clickable sig =)

BTW, did you change the SDE logo? Because the color gradient banding is less noticeable than before...

What, you only noticed that now? Yeah, it was tidied up when the new banner was put in place.

And how do you know it's an SDE? Could be a DE for all you know! :)

I could have sworn there was a krumble down after it hit, right Feixaq? =)

Thanks for the tip on removing the border on my sig, too.

BTW, I still can't see the new Dural logo on Netscape.

Yep, I know about it Yupa (I think I addressed it in another thread). I'll fix up the header Real Soon Now! :)

Is there a reason why you used a table background image when you're not overlaying anything over it...?

No, there isn't, which is why I've reverted it back to a plain image in the table cell.

The original plan was to overlay the VFDC title over random backgrounds. I found that having a high quality gif for the text over a jpg background produced the best and cleanest result. But until I manage to get/create enough backgrounds of high quality as Regan's Dural then I'll be leaving the banner as is.

Netscape users should be happy/happier now.

Yeah, I noticed just a little while ago... right clicking allowed me to save image as... instead of a grayed out option.

Yeah, a transparent GIF over randomized table backgrounds would be nice.. but... it looks great the way it is =)

These days NS4+ can hardly be used to view any webpage decently. Forget about it. Why not d/l IE, Mozilla or something? I'm sure most workplaces these days have at least a 128K connection or better, and the d/l file might already be cached somewhere.

I was using NS4.7 all the way till suddenly one day I realised that most sites weren't looking "proper" on it! The fonts were weird, the links weren't underlined, and pictures were appearing on top of words 'n' stuff!

    Then I found IE.

I started out with 5.0, then realised 5.5 would give you coloured scrollbars. Now I'm using 6.0. There isn't much difference between 6.0 and 5.5.

As much as I hate to support Microsoft, NS leaves me w/ little choice. And yes I was a NS diehard right from the start, with good ol' NS2.0 (lol!) back in 1996... what an antique...

More on OS's and browser support here:

Btw, just FYI, NS6 still doesn't support a no. of things, like style tags in form templates. Certain form fields can stretch way out of size... And it still doesn't support the command "bgproperties=fixed" in the body tag, which will render the background of a page fixed.

I think colored scrollbars are pretty much a gimmick. Actually, the only thing good (IMHO) that IE 5.5 has over 5 is the print preview feature. Duh.... took MSFT THAT long to have a preview feature.

Haven't upgraded to IE6 yet. Doubt I'll install it until/unless I do my next reformat with WinXP Pro OEM version.

I used NS 2.0 a long time ago, too... heh.

Colored scrollbars... I never really liked them...

However, gotta love MOSAIC!!!!!! MOSAIC ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!

    BBS's were fun too/versus/images/icons/smile.gif

All those sweet memories of local BBS, long-distance BBS (usually some nice pirate BBS), the gaming grapevine that existed within Sierra network (which Midway always seemed to be upset over information spilling that way and annoying the game magazines), Prodigy (probably not the best memories), compuserve, etc... Not to forget all the little formats and special interfaces for BBS beyond ANSI... Goes on and on and on... Good old days/versus/images/icons/smile.gif
