Can't wait for part two. Wow based on his interview, even if Yu Suzuki was still at AM2 he might not want to constantly revise VF [IMG]

Akai: sorry, it seems like everybody is talking about everything NOT VF related everywhere else, since there's no news an' all, but I thought people would jump right on it if they saw the thread. Guess I jumped the gun

I think this should be on the front page to be honest.

It was a good read, and I cant wait for the next part,

but so far it's been about the old times mostly. I want to know what he has been up to for the past 6 years!

Awesome interview. What I really want to know about is Yu's thoughts on Shenmue 3 though. That's coming today, I cant wait.

    Yu da man!

"A long time ago we did a promotion with Virtua Fighter and Tekken characters. As a promotion and advertisement to get people's attention, I think it was a success and was good. But, it's not really my style and I don't like to mix games. I'm a purist. In my opinion, the only time you mix and match is when there are no new ideas and mixing is the last resort. So, it's not a very good thing. As long as there are new ideas, I'd rather prioritize working on new ideas."

That was the only interesting tidbit. I could already ascertain the why of so many things. Waste of time. Glad he is still alive and active.

Well, I would say he crushed my dreams of a VF vs Tekken game ever coming, but he doesn't work on Vf anymore so it could still happen.

Gotta respect him, no doubt one of the few hardcore gamemakers still out there. I dusted off my copies of Shenmue 1 just because of this interview. I wanted to play through it again, but my Dreacast is 10 years old and the laser is so worn it failed to load it. I'll have to buy a whole new Dreamcast, They don't sell parts for that anymore.

I think as a game maker, somebody like him, or Miyamoto, or even Mizuguchi, would get tired to do sequel after sequel of the same game. He seems more keen in trying out new stuff.

For us as consumers, we just want more of the same. It kind of conflicts with their creative ambitions.

(if they really release some crazy games for Kinect, it would be great. But I dont want to buy Kinect! ah well)

Milky had to drop the Shining Force name, didn't he?

I still replay Shining Force 1 & 2 on an almost annual basis. Thanks for reminding me of that other SEGA franchise that's been stranded for years.

EXA, Tears and thatotherone don't really count. Only one of those three was ever released in Europe I believe. Never spotted any of them on the shelves at least.

Blah. Now I'll be thinking of that for the rest of the day.

In any case, thanks for the work James.

Didn't he just effectively say it wouldn't matter who he was working with if they had the funding and are giving him creative licence? Oh the possibilities.

The articles were nice, but I came out somewhat disappointed. From the title "disappearance of Yu Suzuki," I thought there would be more focus on the more recent years in which we had heard nothing about him. There was really only one question about it. Still a nice article though.

yeah, i was expecting a more in-depth expose of the current internal politics at sega. but, at least he's confirmed everything we've suspected for years now.

I never got the chance to play Shenmue, but I'm encouraged by the fact that YS kind-a gave RYU GA GOTKU 3(Yakuza 3) the nod. If Shenmue was anything like Yakuza 3, it had to be totally awesome.
