Yea I just saw this. Not, that I really care one way or the other(never saw SC as a great fighter-too clumsy/random for my tastes), but yea looks pretty silly. Rumor has it they'll also probably release more Star Wars characters as Downloadable Content.
I just hope they've done something new with the engine. Make the parrying/deflecting system more involved for depth, or add inescapable juggles as a reward for something that takes skill to do. As it stands, there's never been a distinct line that separates high tier players from mashers in SC. Whereas in games like VF, Tekken, KoF and SF I can trounce my friends because Ive spent a long time learning the system; with SC I spent the time to learn it, but even if Im playing a drunken, smoked out fool it often ends up really even(might be why my friends really like it heh).
Also SC3 was really disappointing. Fix it Namco!

haha SCIII used to be a drinking game with my friends. When you won a round you drank. It made it easier for the loser to start winning lol.

Fighting games do try to mostly make it so that a noob can play with an expert and not get totally raped but still lose. That is a constant battle all competetive games have to deal with and some do a better job than others.

I think it will be hilarious if Yoda and Darth become S-tier (forcepush over edges plz) so every SC4 final will be Yoda vs Darh or Darth vs Darth. The game will be known as the Starwarsgame.

P.S; Soon they need to change the name from SC4 into Weapon Fighting Jam Rumble or something.

SC has always had guarunteed damage off launchers, and mashing has always been easily interrupted if you know the bare bones basics of the game. Sounds like you just made a kneejerk judgement on the game, and went along with some internet opinions. Have you ever even been to an offline tourney for ANY fighting games?

For me this beats Sonic in Smash Bros. Had me a true geek-out when I saw that trailer. I was staring at my screen with wide open eyes. The people in the room might have thought I was stoned.

I really do hope they add other characters through downloadable content so we can have 'Star Wars The Fighting game' by banning the SC ones. Personally I wouldn't care about balance or anything, as it could probably beat Smash Brothers as the party game of choice among my circle of friends.

I'm not suspecting I'll get my Dengar vs IG-88 geek dream to come true. But if they've got a few character edit/colour options: bring on the Gamorrean guard with vibro-axe skin for Rock!

And then we'll start talking about Obi-Wan, Luke, Mace, Mara, Boba, Leia, Palpatine, Grievous (oooh, Grievous...), chewy

    /Vorty walks off day-dreaming

    ps.
I could always beat my button mashing friends in SC3 if I really wanted to, I didn't even know any of the glitches or anything too.

Soooo they've put some other characters from a high-popularity franchise into the game? Meh, I didn't even flinch at that one, maybe even was a bit disappointed because I was expecting some "regular" new characters, and there were only bonuses /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif . At least Hilde seems to be coming along nicely.

After SC2 I don't really care if Gojira and Pikachu are in the game, if I don't like the bonus chars I can always not choose them... What I want to know is how the system looks like, did they fix the Guard Crush and gave Cassandra her old moves back.

And if they insist on putting SW chars in there, they had better put Grievous too!

Nothing to do with glitches, just basics of any fighting game. It's right in the instruction manual for VF5, utilize advantageous situations to attack, and disadvantageous situations to......not attack. That's all it takes to beat a masher in any game.

That's absolutely ridiculous. Maybe you're thinking of DOA? I can't imagine how anyone who's even mildly decent at SC could say something like that.

I knew Id get a reply like this, defending SC - though I have no idea where you get the "internet opinions" and "offline tourney" thing from. I've NEVER been in an ONLINE tourney man. Just arcades where I (mis)spent most of my youth.

I know it's always had guaranteed damage from launchers, but they're like 2-3 hits, then after that the opponent can control how they fly thru the air. I guess I just find SC to be too simple. Fighting games have always interested me because there's so much to learn (still finding something new with 3rd strike every now n then), but a SC match always degenerates into a sloppy mess.

I dunno, it's just not my thing. I'll shut up now /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Sloppy mess? What does that even mean? You start mashing? What's so complex in VF that isn't in SC, and how do they improve gameplay? Your vague attacks on the game don't even make sense.

Not in DOA either. I don't think any fighting game really allows mashers to compete with consistent winners. If there are, I wouldn't play those kinds.

Guarunteed damage off launchers is similar to VF, even with just 1-2 hits. Just because the juggles aren't long and elaborate, doesn't mean they're not effective damage wise. Also, if your argument is that mashers can win because there's no huge juggles, you're completely missing the point of what seperates experienced players from mashers.

i cant wait for SC4.. i love Sigfried and Nightmare so much i wish they fought without weapons in vf5..

i think Darth Vader and Yoda are pretty lame additions just like Spawn and Link were before them.. maybe they might sell a few more games and it might be cool to play with lightsabers for a lil bit but the novelty WILL wear off..

all i want in SC4 is Sigfried, a good story mode and a solid online experience and im game.. i just hope they go the DOA4 route with lobbies and multiple modes instead of the barebones version vf5 shafts us with

why... why the fuck do i get some little green bitch instead of the dark lord of the sith...

FFS, ps3 is black so they get vader 360 is green so they get the green bitch is the fucking dumbest idea ever.

I'm very excited about these characters. They are far better extras than Spawn/Heihachi/Link. It's a shame Yoda will be the 360's character as I will most definitely buying it for the better online functions and I'll have to miss out on Darth.

Thank god there's no more little anime bitch Link throwing cartoon bombs at Astaroth. At least these new characters are serious and excellent swordsmen. The other guys didn't fit in at all - Spawn would have took a machine gun with him in reality, Heihachi wouldn't have stood a chance and Link was a cartoon trapped in a realistic world. Good job I didn't have the shit Gamecube version then - Heihachi was the only valid option.

Still, it's a bloody ridiculous decision, but a good one. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ridicolous decision. Seriously, a pathetic attempt to make more money.

Sould Edge was a fantastic game and Soul Calibur was immense. It was the first beat 'em up I really played a lot. I loved the guard impact system and I remember fighting with my brother and keeping guard impacting each other. And technically, it was superb AND in progressive scan (god bless SEGA for making the DC VGA ready).

SC2 was still good but unexplicably, some of the female characters were ugly as sin. In general, I didn't like the new models/design. SC3 seemed even worse in that direction, that sort of story mode didn't appeal me at all, usability of guard impact was greatly reduced. Also, WHY ON EARTH you should give different commands to the same old moves??? how stupid would it be if they decided that Akira's body check should have /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as command?
