I'm just curious what the long time vfdcer's think about the recent explosion of new members. Does this mean there will be more and more americans with the dedication to really play this game? OR Will VFDC turn into coughzaibatsucough?

    It'll turn into "coughzaibatsucough". Hopefully.

The boards have generally gone to heck. The specialisation of topics helps somewhat as I can avoid some posts all together but much has already been said. I only browse now for the latest updates of movelists and intelligent debates, courtesy of a dedicated few.

I like his sig. It sounds like some badass villian's line from a movie.

this board could really use two things - more effective moderators, and killfiles. the latter may not be possible at the moment, but one softy moderator (myke), one utterly useless twat of a "moderator" (ice-9) and one non-existent moderator (moby) help make for lots of idiots spewing lots of noise. there's just not enough - there is, effectively, only one moderator here, and myke can't be everywhere.

creed or yupa would have my vote as additional moderators..

    A softy moderator eh? /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

It's true, I can't be everywhere, but I'd like to ask what you, or anyone else, expect from the moderators?

I'll be the first to admit that there are a load of threads that are just utterly useless, nothing but noise, and a total eyesore, but what am I, or any other moderator to do?

You get newbies posting "I think VF4 could've been better", "Who will win VF4?", "Fave female character", "Akira is lame", and "Who deserves the next boot from the VF series?". These are just some of the current threads in Junky's Jungle. To me these threads are nothing but noise, but again, what should I do? Close or Delete the threads? At the end of the day I figure they're of some value to somebody(s) and I just leave it be. I guess I'm pretty tolerant compared to some, and it's easy for me to say "If I can ignore it, why can't you?", but again I'd just like to find out what people's expectations are of the mods here. I really hate to play net-nanny or forum-cop, and I wouldn't want to be part of a 'community' which had these roles. It wouldn't make my time spent on VFDC enjoyable at all, especially with all the "work" I'm already doing behind the scenes.

You could try a "How not to be an idiot" essay. Detailing topics such as how senseless kumite strats are, how no one cares about your rank, and how dumb it is to post your hatred for a character.

Another round of bannings wouldn't hurt either to strike some fear into people. Like guys who ONLY post "I hate your sig" adding nothing to a thread. Or guys who troll to talk shit in boards they have no reason to be in. NYC frolic.

Shouji: by Zaibatsu I mean how there is never any intelligent discussion. Not how many members it has.

It's been done before. CreeD wrote some Posting Guidelines which was a sticky thread in the main VF board for the longest time. It's now linked from the main Posting Guide, which is in a much shorter format, on the main index of the forums here. The Posting Guide is what everyone agrees to when they register as well.

The problem with this is you expect some level of intelligence and a minimum attention span from the user to be able to read, comprehend and adhere to the guidelines. But, time and time again we see people posting here who fall woefully below this 'expectation'.

i often thought about this too.... i suppose this is why there has been an increase of topic boards in verses city, though i'm still not sure about the aim of junky's jungle.... i would'nt know what other kind of posts to expect there, seeing as all the other sections narrow down subjects quite neatly.

i think the most decent topic recently was the ECD method, though you could easily see the contrast compared to the rest of the page's sensless topics..... what happened?

    Wassup, Karl...

I have mixed feelings about it.

I'm really glad that a VF game is so popular that it has generated a lot of interest and gained a lot of new fans, as well as bringing a few ol' school VFers out of retirement. I'm also happy that VF4 appeals to a lot of Tekken players. It brings in a whole new group of people, some having an interest in learning about VF4.

But recently it's become really hard to read. Now, the typical thread falls under three categories: "Who's your favorite character" thread, "Tekken vs VF" thread, or my favorite, "What would you like to see in the next Virtua Fighter" or "What fighting styles would you like to see in the next VF" or "Who should get the boot from VF" thread. Cheers to Myke and whoever else was responsible for dividing the VFDC board into several smaller forums. It really helps. I think in a few months when all the hype has died down, and the "casual gamer" has gotten all of the items and accessories from Kumite, most of the "bad apples" will lose interest and leave.

I think you people are too err harsh. I never mind the noise. I mean there is not that many topics that you cannot scroll in a page or two. Just choose those you want to read. It is nice that VF4 is getting more interest, probably due to PS2. The more people playing VF4 the better and I think VFDC can help them improve the game.

But there aren't that much discussion about techniques... I guess it is different from the VF2 days where we have to discuss with words. Nowadays, you can download the matches of top Japanese players and it kind of make a lot of discussions like what to do after certain moves rather... unnecessary.
