I think it's the guaranteed throws. They're practically immediate now and so damn hard to escape from. As far as I'm concerned though the game does feel a fraction faster but there is that feel where you don't have to count frames all the time to do attacks. It's nice because you can play it more on feel than you could in the other games.

I enjoy playing a lot of characters, but when you play against someone good, your 'main' character would soon raise its head and you find playing him/her most of the time. Thats what happens to me. No matter what, I end up playing Akira when the going gets tough /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

edit: as to the speed of the game, I find it immensely enjoyable atm. It feels more dynamic than evo felt, or maybe its just me. Escaping guaranteed throws may be more difficult, but otherwise I feel that I have more time to react on average than I had before. This is propably due to the inclusion of fuzzy guard. Being an old man I know my reflexes arent what they used to be ^^.

I think you are referring to Zero-frame throws. The other kind of throw is much slower now than in Evo. In Evo throws are 8 frames, VF5 has the zero frame and the 12 frame throw.

In regards to Throw Escaping, I feel that you don't need to be as fast as Evo to input throw escapes.

Hmm well I think that inputting throw escapes is like twice harder than it was before.. Also the difference between guaranteed and not guaranteed throw windows is big.

Regular throws have a 22i window.

    Zero-Frame throws have a 10i window.

...I believe the window for inputing throw escapes is the same for both the "regular" throws versus "zero-frame" throws. Not entirely sure.

This is correct. The throw escape window is the same for both types of throws.

With 0-frame throws, you just don't get the "warning" start-up animation, giving the impression that it's harder to escape, but the window is still there.

FWIW, I remember asking Itazan about this, and he confirmed that the escape window is the same for both throws.

Its the messed up timing that makes 0-frame throws so difficult to escape imo.

0frame throws make the game seem so much more fluid and lifelike. In a real fight when you throw someone if you're doing it right by the time they realize they're being thrown they're on the ground. I love it!

I disagree, the animation is often quite jumpy when you get a zero frame throw. A simple example can be seen in the dojo free training. Set a dummy Wolf up so that he gives you a counter hit and try to low punch him. If you are just out of range of the low punch, he will high kick over your head, so throw him. Because of the 0-frame throw, the animation skips from Wolf having his foot over your head to instantly getting thrown. I kind of liked the grabbing animation that used to always come out in VF4, but in terms of game play, I think 0-frame throws is a good idea.

If you want someone easy to use right away until you really learn to use a specific player use Lau,Pai,Brad,Kage, or may be Sarah, these is one of the easier people for non experience VF players to use and still do decent combos with little for no trouble. I would recommend you go to training mode and just try all the characters out and finally decide at that point.

Shun gets difficult down the line but if you like him train away. I agree with shadowmaster that you go through training mode with all the chars to truly see who you like for real.

    Need help picking a character.

Hi I have been going back and forth between trying to pick a character. I want to try and pick one or two characters to master, but I don’t know what to pick that is a good character, but also fits what I want. For one I have been looking at http://virtuafighter.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/168404/fpart/6 to try and pick a character that could hold its own.

I like to play on the more aggressive side and always like throwing in grabs when I can. The characters in SC3 I play is Cervantes 1st and 2nd being Astaroth. I don’t really know what more to say.

    Oh and not Kage.

So please what do you think I may like and why?
    Thanks

Edit: Just to add what is wrong with this site? It’s so slow. It takes forever to get any where on here.

    wolf or jeffry

try browsing the site with firefox. or turn off the right collumn in 'my preferences.' It's the shoutbox causing the problems.

First - that link is a horrible source to determine who you should play!

Second - I assume you are using internet explorer? Try using a different browser, such as firefox. At the moment, internet explorer has problems with this site's shoutbox.

Well... wolf and jeffry are both grapplers, but I'd consider them more defensive much of the time.

You might want to look at Jacky or Lau if by "aggressive", you mean rush down characters.

In the end, all the characters are effective. But you probably want to pick one guy to learn pretty exclusively to start out with, until you've mastered the VF5 "system" (see site wiki).
