Look inside for some very early impressions from the amazing trailer video of Sega's VF4.

    February 22, 2001

By now, you've seen our first high-res screens of VF4, which AM2 tells us were taken directly off dev-kits, and are wondering, "How can I see more." Well, you've come to the right place. Sega is showing off VF4's Naomi 2 version in demo reel form at the AOU2001 show now taking place just outside Tokyo, Japan.
Series producer Yu Suzuki himself took the stage to show off the demo video, and we'll for now just describe it as "amazing," and leave you with that. You can see the screen shots for yourself while waiting for a more complete set of impressions that clarify what exactly "amazing" means (sorry to leave you hanging - but the show's still going on and we'd much rather be playing Sega's dog-walking game, which features an actual treadmill as part of the cabinet, than writing this story).

In terms of factual details, we'll start off with the confirmation of the game's three button system. Suzuki has previously suggested that AM2 was trying out the four button system of VF3 and the three button system of the original two games, and apparently the three button system won out. The video also suggests that all the old characters will make a return - they're all shown in new Naomi 2 form. Additionally, one of the new characters is shown - a bald guy wearing flowing yellow robes. In some ways, the game's parry reverse system makes us think of a Jackie Chan movie. Truly something you need to see in motion.

Oh yeah… one more detail… with her new look, Sarah Bryant, the constant sexual figure of the series, reminds us a bit of Sofia from that ancient PSX series, Toshinden. We'll leave you with that. Check back soon for a more complete set of impressions.

According to Yu Suzuki's brief interview at the show, there will be TWO new characters, one male and one female. Male guy is of Shaolin root (Rakan-ken) and matches with the descriptions in the IGN's report.

Oh well, this is at least what I read in:

    http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/ (in Japanese)

Also the presentation video showed all of the old characters except Taka. But Yu Suzuki did confirm that ALL of the old characters will be back.

comment and a Q for Bungle.

I was really hoping for 4 new characters, since it's been such a long time between VF3 and VF4. But, what the hey--I'm just glad there'll be a VF4 at all! Must star saving for a NAOMI2 board.

Señor Bungle, will you be picking up a NAOMI2?

    cheers,
