I have no delusions that the US is loved around the world. I know we're probably among if not THE MOST hated country on the planet right now. This video disturbs me greatly - not because of its content - but that it exists.

Seeing a concrete example of my presumptions makes me shudder. I don't think EVERYONE in Norway shares the views expressed within, but I don't think the video was done just for the controversy.

Also, bothers me that at least half my country thinks differently than I do.

My apologies for being unclear in the opening post.

I don't have a problem with the video. I have a problem with the world hating the USA. It disturbs me to see it expressed with such clarity. I'm not saying the video shouldn't have been made or should be censored. I'd rather every country in the world publish stuff like this. Maybe more people in this country would get a clue. It bothers me that I'd be looked poorly upon if I traveled abroad because I'm American. I don't like that. This does not mean I think the world's opinion is unfounded.

I think BushCo. is ruining this country, destroying our reputation around the world, etc. I know other presidents have done the same in years past. I'm just paying attention to it now. When I was 22 I didn't pay attention.

I do what I can to change things these days: I vote. I express my views even if they're unpopular in hopes to get people to see things the way I do.

Seeing that video reminded me there's a lot of work to be done. I felt a little powerless after watching it.

I can see my thread title interpreted as a marginalization of Norway. It doesn't reflect that Norway has signifigance, "even NORWAY fucking hates us." Honestly, I hadn't recently thought of Norway and what they thought of us. If you had asked me about Norway prior to this video, I'd have said "oh yeah, little country, I don't see why they would have a problem with us, we never did anything to them." Shows my ignorance and lack of awareness. The video was a reminder that I still have work to do on myself.

    Disturbing to me.

    Huh,,
dont feel powerless.. its just the way things go.. you're liked sometimes - othertimes not.
there really is nothing you can do about it..
america now (since i'd say clintons second term) is always in a lose lose situation..
republicans attack world opinion one way, dems another - both are never correct to the world.
The problem really lies in what we have and what we can do (i dont just meant military power, i mean rights, way of livging, etc).
We can be at war, be attacked, stocks crash , people dieing anywhere - and what happens?? we continue to persavere and live how ever the hell we feel - against / for government.

so much to say - but i view like this -
America will never keep americans happy with its decisions, what makes you think the world will be.

    America, Fuck Yeah!

Oh man, that's pretty funny, especially the announcer dancing and stuff. I assume that it is not literally an incitement to violence but that it's intended ironically- not that the criticism of the US isn't sincere, I just mean that they do not really plan to off Bush because that would be wrong and stuff I guess.

American foreign policy really has been shameful since the end of WWII. Just as shameful is the general public's ignorance of it all. The American people themselves are not such an awful lot. They are however misinformed and propagandized.

Would the American people have supported the overthrow of the most democratic statesman in the history of the Muslim world? (I am referring to Iran's Mossedegh back in 1953) Would most Americans have preferred that he be replace with a murderous dictator as long as British Petroleum could maintain control over Iran's oil?

    I don't think so.

Would the American people have wanted to bomb the living hell out of Vietnam to the tune of 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 dead if they had known that the entire Gulf of Tonkin incident (the initial justification for America's entry into the war) was a hoax? Would the American public have supported the continued fighting had they known that the CIA had found a vast majority of the South Vietnamese, had they been given the right to vote, would have voted to join the North?

Would the American public have supprted the covert overthrow of Guatamala's democratic government in 1954 and its replacment with a fascist, U.S. friendly gogernment that committed a genocide against the Mayan Indian population that claimed the lives of 200,000 people?

Would the American public have supported the sponsorship of death squads in El Salvador who killed basically everyone to the left of Mussolini? Thanks largely go to the Reagan administration for that one. Eliot Abrams and John Negroponte, two of the bastards in charge of hiding these ugly realities from the public, now enjoy high positions in the government thanks to W. Bush.

There is a lot more I could write here, but my point is that our government does not represent us. The media is to blame in large part. They are lazy and will not forcefully contradict lies when they are told by powerful public figures. Even when evidence of wrongdoing surfaces, all that the accused leader (especially if the accused is connected to the American right) has to do is Deny Everything. The denial, no matter how implausible, turns the whole issue into a he said/she said affair... for about fifteen minutes, then its back to late breaking news about Michael Jackson's penis.

We deserve the world's derision at this point. Sadly, I think it's going to take an economic collapse before there is much hope of returning America to a saner course.

Can someone make a deadpan emoticon for VFDC?

Hey i watched the Amazing Race last week and they were in Norway. Anyways the Norwegens helped the americans with directions and EVERYONE found their way to the pitt stop of the race. It was also a non-elimination round. Co-incidence, i think not.

Norway and the rest of the Scandinavian countries are social democracies.

Universal health care means the popluation is healthier than America's and they spend less money on health care than us!

    No homeless people!

    Murder rate near zero!

    Near 100% literacy!

Nowhere near the % of their population in jail compared to the U.S!

So for the people who are not millionaires, where are you better off living?

    Thanks for the support.

It wasn't a crushing or long lasting powerless feeling, just enough to move me to write about it. I agree that I can't control other people's feelings about me. I do my best to be fair, honest, likeable, and trustworthy. I care about what people think of me.

haha that vid was too funny!

anyway on a more serious note, sgt ramrod, i like the tune your singing. Too true that there have been waaay too many american actions of yesteryear that would be seen in a heavily negetive context today, most of which have been forgotten.

Plague, i suggest you never go to the forums on www.ogrish.com
if you think that vid was bad then you aint seen nothing yet. Go and have a look in the ture gore and non gore threads and you will see alot of.......things.......

but then again what is their population ?
if they were to have a latin mentality = rabbits ; 12 kids like my mom - could they afford all the aneminities ??
I mean mexico and lots of latin countries have great recources but have rotten governments as well - i think way worse than american ones.

and i ask this question again,, imigrants are willing to leave their horrible countries to come to a horrible country, why cant americans do the same?? or does this country actually offer something that others do not?
I could have stayed in mexico, (government funds for farmland, you get ot keep someones house if they arent there for a few years)..
I really think every country sucks one way or another,, if you dont have - go to having (like myself) - it seems good. If you have, and see what others have that you dont, - then there is a problem.
    is all perspective?? curious
I am a flag waver , but unfortunately its not the american flag.

Well you got me on that question... Sometimes I feel like certain USA peeps are so keen on saying "the world hates us!" as it is in line with their own motives that it's silly or even to the point of selfpity. I promise you, the common Norweigan (or Scandinavian person for that matter) on the street isn't thinking about assasinating Bush with a rocketlauncher.

In case you've missed it ,our entiry culture is basicly USA wannabe up here so it's harder for the average Joe to alienate himself from the states then most would think.
If I can find a movie joke / whatnot about 'fucking eurotrash', should I run for cover thinking bombs will drop soon? The only fun thing about that video is that Promoe, a Swedish rapper (who rocks btw) is guesting it.

Keep it real, even Eminem made a anti Bush song (but his was a better tune).

P.S; Want to see a really good Promoe tune check out; http://www.looptroop.nu/videos/PROMOE_THESEWALLS-HI.wmv

The USA offers a lot that other countries don't. I really like living here and I really like SoCal. My father and his family immigrated from Latvia, they left just before the U.S.S.R. took over. I'm happy they did. I don't hate America, I've just grown up hearing "America is the grestest country in the world," over and over again. It was easy for me to equate that to "and if you don't like it there must be something WRONG with you - you piece of shit! Get the fuck out!"

I've changed my outlook and really stopped relying on subjective terms of value (great, good, bad, wrong) to describe things. Now I think "a lot of people risk their lives to come here. There must be something in it for them. A lot of people in their country love America, too." I think that's OK. There's definitely something for me here. I wouldn't be running a design and advertising firm if I lived in Rwanda. I'm also OK with the fact the other people (not necessarily the ENTIRE country of Norway) don't like us. I still get a little sad when I see it.

Its not just other countries hating america, its even americans that also hate america as well. When they say that they are going to burn the flag or whatever, it reminds me of when they did that here in the US as a right to protest for the wrong doings of the goverment. As for me, I love america. This country has given me freedom that I couldnt have in my own country. Its given me a great education, a job, and just a chance to have my human rights as we all should on this little planet. Just some people dont realize what they have, until you've lived in a third world country.

Well I've lived in a third world country and things there weren't as bad. I mean in America the crime rate is incredibly high. Sure there was a lot of crime there, but it wasn't crazy bad. In Chicago alone it's more crime infested than a third world country. People in America seem to think that just because a country is poor or that it dosen't have a huge industry that it's full of crime and crap. That's not the case. I personally like America because it gives you a chance to try and do something with your life, but the problem is that the government is always finding ways to shut you down. Well getting back to my crime thing, if you look at the statistics, every time the U.S. has "liberated" a country things just got worse afterwards for that country. Just look at Afghanistan and Iraq. What the hell kind of liberation is that? The people are constantly living in fear. They are afraid to go outside to get water because they might get shot in the head. People in Iraq go through that everyday and we went to war because we listened to some dumbass cowboy with a vendeta to avenge his fathers wishes! People in the U.S. panic too much and that gives way for the government to do as they please. The problem here is that it isn't the people that the majority of the world hates, it's the government. And that hate comes from the people's own ignorance and fear that the government instills upon them. If you take a look at U.S. history you would find that most of the wars that the U.S. was in it was because the government actually escalated the situation more than was necessary. So in actuallity, the rest of the world is confused as to who they hate; the government or the U.S. people. IMO most people in the world are just angry that the U.S. people actually let their gov do the things they do. The people feel that the nation is not living up to the freedoms that are preached.

Now I would like to state the reason that got people in the world even more pissed off: the Iraq war. If you actually examine all the actions Bush has done in the time he was president you would see that every one of the decisions he made to go to war were lies. The bottom line is that we went to war for oil and most people didin't even know about it. They way that Bush began to manipulate the country was just beautifuly played. And the people let their fears take over and voila, we got ourselves a reason to go to war. What is it? Why it's the war on terror of course. The war on terror?!? WTF is that? It's a neverending war. How can you have a war on terror? It's not possible. That was what got the nation into war in the first place. Bush just made that up so that could be his reason for doing anything he wanted. Just look at the Patriot Act. If anything the act is completely unpatriotic.

I am not against America. I actually like America because of all the freedoms that it gives me. But the way that the government is controling us it seems that we are losing those freedoms and thats a shame. In ending I would like to state that I love America, so don't think that I am against it. I just had to state my opinions because I feel that was my right.
