I am back with a link of such hottness and timeliness that it could not be contained in the random links thread...

I have always despised the Republican Party. They have always been way way worse than the pretty lame Democratic Party. I knew that George Bush's election theft in 2000 would spell shitty things for people with any compassion or common sense.

But even I did not expect him to fuck things up this bad.

I can't believe this was written in early 2001.

And yet people voted for him twice. Honestly I sometimes think people deserve to get fucked up. But why must the innoccent suffer?

The American public is really propagandized. If you do not live here, you can't quite appreciate it.

Like for Brits, that Downing Street Memo was a big deal in damaging Blair's credibility, right? I mean, it described a meeting in which the head of British Intel said that "intelligence was being fixed around the policy (of regime change in Iraq)." This memo undermines Bush's stated rational for the war as well as his stroy since then, ie, that war was a last resort and that he had hoped to avoid the war through U.N. weapons inspections.

That should be a big deal, right? Bush and co.'s lies finally exposed! Now the press will start asking the tough questions! Surely televised congressional hearings are to follow! Finally the truth will have its day in the light and democracy will be vindicated!

But...no. Instead, Bush can go on spewing the Bullshit talking point du jure.

I read somewhere that in a recent poll, 85% of servicemen in Iraq believed that they were over there to avenge America for Saddam's role in 9/11. Where did they get that idea I wonder? Because these people can lie with impunity.

Even so, Americans are coming to realize that Bush is a disaster.

On a totally different subject, this is one the best and most important pieces of academic scholarship in recent years, in my opinion. It comes from a Harvard Professor and a Chicago Professor. It really never could be printed in a U.S. publication. Read it and weep.

I'm still working through Imperial Hubris - while reading I had discerned our relations with Israel were causing difficulty. Now I understand it a little more.

Imperial Hubris is very good, especially because the author cuts through the lies to get the facts. He is a little more eager than me to blow stuff/people up than me, but he does have a lot of insight.

I personally think that he overstates the danger of Islamic Fundamentalism in a way because a lot of those little paramilitary groups wouls seem to be to small and uneducated to make their way to the U.S. and attck Americans. All the 9/11 hijackers were educated men.

Personally. I think that the biggest danger is in some of those people well conected enough to get a U.S. Visa getting ahold of a nuke. For that reason we should avoid pissing off large numbers of muslims and spend our resources on getting ahold of nuclear material. We should not waste the resources that we should be putting toward securing nukes. We especially shouldn't waste these resources in such a way that we increase the number of people who would like blow us up while we diminish our ability to prevent said blowing up.

And AIPAC is crazy. I support Israel's right to exist and I loath anti-Semitism. Both of those sentiments give me reason to oppose AIPAC. They are bad for America, bad for Israel, and bad for Jewish people.
