First, I don't know how much I can translate because I lack character knowledge (I really only know 3 - 4 characters), and because work is busy. I'll try to do the bite-sized stuff, which will be easier to translate.

Weight classes have been changed for Final Showdown, here they are:

Super Light: Aoi, Eileen, Blaze
Light: Vanessa, Lion, Sarah, Pai, Shun
Midweight: Lei, Brad, Lau, Kage, Goh
Midheavy: Jean, Jacky, Akira
Heavy: Wolf, Jeffry
Dude go on a diet: Taka-arashi

Here's the first "official" tier list for Final Showdown, published by Arcadia this month. It also includes small notes about each tier.

S Rank: Shun, Lau, Akira

Within the top ranks, you have Shun, who has gained a ton of good moves and adjustments, Lau, who has not changed that much (but takes very good advantage of the new system), and Akira, who has been powered up. The changes to the throw system have not detracted from their game at all.

A Rank: Lion, Kage, Goh, Brad, Sarah, Wolf

All purpose characters are Lion and Kage, while Goh and Wolf possess very solid and simple 50/50 mixups. Sarah and Brad are also strong due to their stances. These characters have also not been affected too much by the changes to the throw system.

B Rank: Jean, Pai, Vanessa, Aoi, Taka-arashi, Eileen

Although they possess the ability to take on the stronger characters, they have quite a few weak points. However if they can compensate for their weakpoints with new combos and tactics, they may rise to A rank!

C Rank: Blaze, Jacky, Jeffry, Lei-Fei

They did not receive many upgrades or anything to really take advantage of the revamped game system. However, the difference between B and C rank isn't that large, if you were to ask most players.

What the top players think about the tiers (note: these are not all of the players they quoted, just half of them... I'll try to do the others later on)

Koedo: If you take out the very top and very bottom characters, the balance is actually very good. The characters who best take advantage of the new system are definitely the strongest. The top characters can be played easily, while the mid-tiers will take some time to adjust. The bottom tiers, well... they'll be expensive to play.

Fuudo: Characters with good low tech moves (ed note: not sure on this) and guard crushes are definitely top class. And the reward that you get from a crush is pretty big. The loss of throws from the down-back, down and down-forward directions really hurts those characters who rely on their mid-hitting moves (i.e. Lei-fei, etc.)

Gorgeous: I think Shun and Lau are definitely the two strongest in the game. But that doesn't mean that the characters below them are hopeless. Brad is strong this time around, but I think he will drop as the game progresses. My character, Eileen, is definitely stronger than in the last game.

Joseph: Personally, Shun and Lau are the best, with Akira, Brad and Lion coming in after them. The top characters just match the revamped system really well. While there is a small difference with the characters below the top ones, there is definitely a feeling that their abilities have been reduced.

Itabashi Zangief: My character, Shun, is unquestionably strong. His distance game is top tier, his drink game is top tier, his throws are top tier, and his crush are top tier. Out of the lower characters, Jacky seems to have the most potential. This time around, the strike-based characters are definitely the strongest, however throws being so weak....

 

I called it, Jeffry lowest tier. I could tell by watching the videos but some people seemed to not believe it, here's your proof.

not to burst your bubble, but day 1 tier lists are almost never right; there was a time when cammy was top tier in marvel.

 

Except the VF5 vanilla tiers of course - those are sacred.

Jacky's at the bottom? Damn that's cold.

 

As a Lei player im not worried about Lei beeing bottom tier.I think the game is perfectly balanced.Every character has high damage potential.U dont need many chances to win if u pick the right ones.VF still the same.Good defense reigns supreme offense.I think a key to win those high level FS matches will be the awarness of that overall high damage...If u take the advantage over things like Akiras bodycheck or wall combos u are top tier.Kill em 4 tryin to rape ur health bar

 

Glad Shun got a boost after what they did to him in R.

 

thats really Cold lol!!! I thought all his weakness were covered so that made him even better? The fact he has a low full circular that goes under mids give him a great prority. Sadly i haven't see the combos from R attempted in FS so this is all speculation. I mean his ability to land 81 damage off of a beat knuckle is still insane.

But this time around there more of a guessing game and you will pay dearly for it. Defense will always get you far but now they added the guessing element instead of the old "You already know"

It won't help me? What exactly do you mean? If your saying tiers don't mean much then yeah, I'd play Goh if he was supposedly garbage cuz tiers mean nothing to me in this game.
