LOS ANGELES--Last August, Sega announced it was preparing a sequel to Virtua Fighter 4, appropriately titled Virtua Fighter 5. The game was being developed for Sega's new Lindbergh arcade board, which is based on a 3GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU. The fact the board was based on PC architecture led some to speculate the game would be coming to the Xbox 360, as the porting process would be less complex than that to other consoles.

Today, Sega announced that Virtua Fighter 5 is indeed coming to a next-generation console ... but not the Xbox 360. The game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 when it is released in North America in Spring 2007. Like the 360, though, the game will feature high-definition graphics, and will support 720p resolution.

Virtua Fighter 5 will sport more than 15 characters, including many from previous installments. It will also include two new characters, Eileen and El Blaze. Of Chinese descent, Eileen "uses a Monkey Kung-Fu fighting style that she learned from her grandfather, a former Kung-Fu master," according to Sega. As one might gather from the name, El Blaze is a master of Lucha Libre, the flamboyant style of Mexican wrestling.

Besides introducing two new characters, Sega also released some gameplay details about Virtua Fighter 5. The publisher carefully avoided any mention of an online mode, but did say players could win in-game money for their victories which they could use at an in-game shop. Sega also said that players could pick form several customizable costumes and "attachable items" that "can be placed onto each fighter’s various body parts."

But... PS3 is gonna be so much more expensive! /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Guess I'll be eating more ramen after all *sigh*

I wonder what that means for guys with custom sticks though - I know the X360's wired controller can be used for wired sticks, but so far I haven't seen anything on wired PS3 pads... at least HORI are bound to be making something worthwhile...

Sega is a bunch of fags, and here are the reasons:

    1, VF5 is PS3 exclusive.
translation: we support japanese company only, eventhough our arcade hardware is the same as the american console (we tried to make our own hardware but we fucked up). we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

2, VF5 will not have online play.
translation: we don't want to ruining the "true" vf experience for our (japanese) players. Fuck building vf communities without of vf.net (which is JP only for you noobs). we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

3, VF5 software is on a rental basis.
translation: We are sick of you chinese, taiwanese, american, Koreans, eurofags and HKers importing VF. We are going to put a stop to it. we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

4, "we're making VF5 for today's Japanese arcade scene..." Daichi Katagirl
translation: everyone else and go fuck themselves. we don't give a shit about the vfers outside of japan.

Why will VF5 be available outside of japan on console in the first place? cuz Sony paid sega a load to promote the PS3.

i agree with all points cept for the first one. cmon, it makes sence on the ps3 cause thas where the money will be. i think sega knows usa doesnt like VF series, so why bother making a whole port on another console just so it could sell a few hundred in japan. business wise it just makes sence.

    PS3 price announced:

$500 for the 20GB HDD model (the "retard pack")
$600 for the 60GB HDD model

Get out the lube, guys, we're gonna get RAPED D:

This must be a Sony trick or something, there is no way a console can reach the mass @ $500, remember 3DO? On a serious ies note, if I can lube you Zero-chan for $600, that'd be a bargain..
    Let's see PS3 600 + 120 for a pair of good sticks + 60 for the game = Sega fucked NAVF again!

WTF!?! $500 and no digital video output? Are they insane? I hope that just means the cable comes bundled with the more expensive version, instead of meaning there's no hdmi or dvi option at all for the 'cheap' version.
