What are the biggest videogame one hit wonders of all time. For me the first game that comes to mind is Battle Arena Toshinden. Whatever happened to love story between it and Sony, I wonder if they'll ever consider a sequel ?

One of the most underappreciated series imo is Fear Effect. I think when the first game was released, most people weren't ready for it. That's also probably the same reason eidos is thinking twice about releasing the latest installement. Eidos = No balls

    What are yours ?

for manufacturers, that's a toughie... there are a lot.

Raiden was an enormously popular game, and seibu kaihatsu's only other game that I know of is battle balls, a personal fave but maybe not a smash hit.

Battle arena toshinden was an incredible game. There were sequels up to Toshinden Subaru. But, subaru was a flop. I mean a terrible flop.

If only, they can do the original toshinden 1 justice by releasing something more playable.

Thought they had Fear Effect 2?? r they planning to release another sequel? Haven't been keeping in touch with these games. Fear Effect 1 was nice. Difficulty is a bit high.

Last time, Sega had Galaxy Force 2. Its another wonderful game in the 90s, I think.

Man, there are so many great games that just fall by the wayside these days. It's too bad, but maybe that's a side effect of having so many titles on the shelves. This past year, I've been mostly trying to catch up on all the stuff I missed the first time through; I still have a copy of Lunat Eternal Blue (Sega CD) to go through.

I've tried to draw attention to some of the Gameboy Advance games that I enjoyed, but were somehow forgotton. There's a dozen or so reviews on my website to read through.

Stellar assault/Shadow Squadron for the 32x.

My favourite shooter ever. I don't think I ever hear anyone talk about it.

Fear Effect has had two in it's series so far, being Fear Effect and the prequel Fear Effect: Retro Helix both for PSX. There is currently a Fear Effect 3 in the works, which will be released for PS2.

It's on hold for now. Eidos was supposed to showcase it at E3 but didn't. I think it had something to do with the mature contents and themes found in the game. Rumor has it that the company is split into two : on one side you have those who want the game to be released (the way it should be) without censorship, and on the other those who want it censored. Why not let the consumer decide : If games like Postal, Max Payne, Getaway can be out on the market without being censored then so should Fear Effect. I think the problem might be : the sexual content. They played around with it before and so did GTA but this time I think they were planning to go all out. But some ppl at Eidos don't have the balls and are affraid as if they were dealing with BMXXX . It's a shame !

P.S. My bad I should've said the Fear Effect SERIES.

i think when she requested a "sig-check" she was putting her vote in for fighting vipers as an underappreciated game rather than trying to rain on anyone's parade. and come on, lighten up, it's not like everyone on this forum isn't participating in the creation, propagation, and constant redefinition of our own super-leet jargon that no one in the real world can understand.

me: so, mom, i saw this fight where this guy tried vanessa's low punch sabaki right after a MCE, only to find akira's SDE waiting for him! isn't that funny? <smug laughter follows>

    mom: wha?

as a side note, anyone ever notice how people are much more willing to be confrontational when there's no hope of there ever being a confrontation ?

my vote, btw, is for brahma force, a first person shooter from bungie before halo and microsoft and crap crap crap why do all the good developers go bad?! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Oops - my apologies for the misinterpretation. I was looking at the second part of her signature.

*stumbles backwards from Raxel MC Guitar Strike*

I did think it was somewhat out of character. "And Trogdor Smote the Plague, and All was Laid to Burnination."

I think it was suppose to be the original Dave Mirra BMX game but due to some of the sexual content in the game, he backed out of the deal so Acclaim went and changed the name to BMXXX.

BMX XXX was suppose to be Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 3. It was pitched to be a game with potty humor, sophmore hijinks, and excellent gameplay, but Shawn Rosen (Former Exec. Producer at Acclaim) was given far too much input ability in the final product. He based the game on his son's ideas of what a great BMX game would be if it was similar to his favorite show "Jackass". Mirra saw how offensive the game had become and pulled his endorsement from the game as it did not portray him in a positive image and would help to alienate his games from younger fans. Thus the name "BMX XXX" was born. It is an enhanced version of the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 game engine with flatland tricks added, but is merged with massive amounts of vulgarity, offensive situations, obnoxious citizens, and nudity. It created quite a stir with it's controversial content (Ex: FMV Scenes of nude Scores strippers as prizes), but ultimately failed to sell it's projected numbers and lost a lot of money. Consequently, everyone at Acclaim associated with the project was canned and it has been swept under the rug. Z-Axis is now owned by Activision so hopefully they can put it behind them. Weird fact is that many of the former Z-Axis team (Thrasher, Dave Mirra, Aggressive Inline) are now employed by Microsoft. Even though I did consulting on game content, mechanics, and design with BMX XXX, I refused to allow my name be added to the credits. It's not what it was suppose to have been.

Other than Fighting Vipers needing a current console incarnation. I would say 2 games IMO need current versions. Killer Instinct 1 (KI2/Gold were garbage) and Eternal Champions would be greatly appreciated to have modern upgrades.
