Thought I’d start a thread for discussion of Outrun 2, soon to be released on Xbox in arcade perfect form. Is anyone else hyped about this game? I must admit it’s one of the few games that has lifted my interest in gaming again. At last a genuine arcade racer without sim handling and boring customisation (sorry, Burnout series doesn’t cut it for me). Not since Sega Touring car championship and Sega Rally 2 have I really enjoyed a good racing game, or felt the desire to compete for good times – I think Outrun 2 will rectify this. Here’s the official site:

    outrun2.sega-europe.com

I’m also hoping we can start some time attack competitions or organise online races on this thread. Nothing better than a good time attack competition. I think the final game will allow ghost replay downloads, but if not there’s online timetables confirmed. No doubt this thread will drop until nearer the official release. I’ll be sure to resurrect it with my first set of times in October.

I remember watching my mates on OutRun2 a few months back when I was in London and it definetley has a vibe about it that 'tickles my fancy' if you will. I've never personally liked the personalisation aspect of racing games (ala Initial D, Gran Turismo etc) but prefer the 'time attack' aspect of say, Sega Rally or the Mario Kart games, much more fun IMO. Shame this thing is Xbox only, I'm not sure if I can justify buying an X-box just for one game, however much I like the Outrun series. Shame, Magical Sound Shower is musical genius!

Aaah, memories, like the corner of my mind! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Damn, now I'm gonna have to blow the dust off my Saturn for the original OutRun, I'm in the mood to rinse it now! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

when it drops, find me. My gamertag is XxRodnutzxX . Yea, I am tired of sims. From the moment I heard this game was coming to Xbox with FULL LIVE support. I went out and reserved it right away. Like I said, when it drops just find me. We can race and talk smack!

*awaits the day he runs into that dumb bitch that stole his xbox* Outrun 2 is MADD fun and the fact it's on live makes it more tight. I have been fucking round with online gaming recently. IF I get xbox again, it'll be more for GGXX #R more than anything else but this is a definite maybe.

Hell yeah, count my ass in! For nostalogic purposes alone this will be gold!

PS: Slim, the Box is worth every penny for Halo alone! Go buy it now, you know you want to!

Hmm, well, there 100 quid, which ain't too bad I guess. Apart from Halo and Outrun2, are their any other grade A game's for an X box?

Oh, to stop me turning this thread into a 'Buy this game' thread, I'll talk a bit more about Outrun2. I'll be honest, I've only played the game once or twice, but do enjoy the game immensely. Hell, I remember playing the original outrun on the spectrum (I was only 6 in 1986!) but remember the game being one of those that you just play over and over till your eyes bleed. The fact that there is the heart mode thing (which I love) in 2, the replay is even higher. TBH this is the only racing (say, apart Sega Rally on the Saturn, Mario Kart on the SNES and Wipeout 2097 on the PS1) that I give a flying fudge about. When is Outrun2 out?

The Box has Halo. H2 is coming in about two months. The 1st game still owns my soul and gets loving even today! And I don't even like 1st person shooters! Believe the hype and get a Box (with Halo) NOW!

[promises to shut up about Halo in an Outrun2 Thread from now on]

Good to see there's some interest. Did you know there's bonus tracks from previous Sega titles in Xbox Outrun 2?

I am playing it right now. Seems that someone got there hands on a review copy. I guess it's what they hand out to major magazine reps to test out so they can write there articles. Either that or it's the actual full game. Anyways, I downloaded it and started playing it this morning at around 3am till 6:30am. I woke up at 11am or so and went right back to it. The missions mode that they added is so damn good. In one of the mission you actual have to do MATH. hahahaha they send out a series of numbers that you drive by. You have to pay attention to wether their is a plus or minus in front of the number. Then either add or subtract until you get to where the road splits. At that point what ever all the numbers sum up too. You have to pick the correct path. I hope that made sense. Anyways, what they have done with this game is just amazing. Right now I am waiting for my friend and we are going to try and get a LAN game going using Xboxconnect tunnel software. Hopefully it works. If it does we are going to try and find other peeps to play with until the actual retail copy comes out and we can play on LIVE. If you have a modded xbox I suggest you download it, then you can get the xboxconnect software and just join our game. I would post a link but I don't know all the forum rules for this site. Just do a search and I am sure you can find it. Later! I am going to get back to unlocking stuff some more stuff.

If you can't find it just email me at konjou_san@hotmail.com!

alright just got done playing in some 4-6 man races. The experience was off the charts. We did experience a little lag here and there, but overall it was nothing to bitch at. I am sure when the full version comes out and it's played on xbox LIVE, there should be next to none or no lag at all. I only had one gripe with the game. When you choose Outrun mode. I thought that everyone would be able to take there own path. But it seems that the game will just randomly choose a path for everyone to take. I was hoping we could go our own separate ways and set a rule like everyone end the race at Point C or so. Well that's just my little gripe with the game. But overall I love it. I can't wait to unlock everything and see what they stuck in there. Hopefully some wacky cars. Although the ferrari's look nice. It would be way cool to see like the Daytona USA car or the Horse in there. Fuck throw in a guy on a bike too, like they did in crazy taxi. hahahahahha I am going to take a little outrun 2 break... Play some Fable for a while then get some rest. But when I wake up, it's back to outrun 2.

Er, how did you manage to play the final release? I thought the only demo releaed was a 3 stage one, with 4 player live support?

I guess that gives you a 2 week advantage over everyone else now. Drats....just wait till the time attack score start coming in.

Konjou in outrun mode it's the leader which picks the way for all the other racers to go. So leader technically gets the advantage /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well I sincerely hope the people on here downloading this illegally intend to purcahse the game on final release. I couldn't think of a company or developer less deserving of having their royalty margins shredded by piracy than Sega. I mean this is the sort of game that needs all the help it can get to sell through to a gaming public who believe anything derived from the arcades is cheap and shallow.

The amount of work and effort that's gone into this port from AM2 and their mates at Sumo must've been monumental....please let's all play fair.

Having never downloaded an Xbox game illegaly I wouldn't know about whether or not they work on Xbox live, so forgive my ignorance.

I guess I have double standards on this whole issue. I couldn't care less if folk pirated the odd EA game, who are rolling on money. But Sega is still comparitively weak in the market, and porting arcade games has never given them high returns. Therefore, to see their royalties cut on a port like Outrun 2 could seriously endanger the chaces of other great aracde games being released on console.

In a market dominated by games that sacrifice real gameplay for pointles customisation and long bulked out gameplay with little or no skill required, having a proper raw arcade port is a godsend to me and doubtless many others. I'm really keen to see this game succeed for Sega.
