well.. here's my observation and these are the games:
well. these are the games i have hehe.. well the console is ps2 by the way..

    virtua fighter 4 evolution
    mortal kombat dark alliance
    tekken 4
    dead or alive 2 hardcore

i could say the most balanced game is virtua fighter 4..
because the characters have their own tricks in their sleeves.. and about the juggle thing.. it's very TECHNICAL which i love about this game AND there are NO BUTTON MASHERS!! (don't be offended if you play marvel vs. campcom series ahihihi) /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

compared to tekken 4.. the juggle is so... tsk tsk.. notice some people abuse juggles!! grrr /versus/images/graemlins/confused.gif AND the THROW!! is hard to escape..even though you also press that grab ..AND THAT RUNNING THING! (when youre on the ground and the enemy will run towards you and knock you down again!! grr...!!!
besides also the environment.. hello?! can anyone bounce in air? the invisible wall? haha
    /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

compared to Dead or alive it's just speed but at least its backgrounds are very BIG.. realistic when you crash at the window you fall down into a new stage..

compared to mortal kombat 2 deadly alliance.. hmm it's ok.. but sometimes it's hard to guard and people just abuse the weapons and most of them use characters which have easy commands.. some moves are awkward and they all look the same.. the juggle is okay.. the blood is veeeryy okay! ahihih

well there it is.. i think i still miss something.. but.. whew! im beat!

MK:DA is broken, least scorpian is. Get overhere! sword sword sword... repeat... the end...
DOA 2 is broken: Counter, counter, counter, counter, counter... (dont me wrong, i love the game)
as for Tekken, ive never liked and i NEVER will.

You forgot SC2. Next to the VF series, SC has the best balance of any 3D fighter. You really shouldn't overlook this one, it's a very solid game.

    SC2 = Balanced ... ?
    Hahahahahahahahahah!!!

Step is broken. Very broken. Certain characters can step better than others, evading most attacks. Xiang is top tier simply because of this fact. SC is far from balanced. Read any forum, and look at any SC tourny.

VF4EVO rules. Throws aren't hard to escape. In fact if you keep practising you can easily escape from 2-3 throws!

hehe yea SC2 balanced? It is pretty amazing how messed up that game is. You guys see that pathetic Lizardman throw glitch? The tournament players I play have even switched back to Tekken 4 because SC2 is broken. They call Tekken 4 broken too, but they think VF4 is too boring /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

DOA 2 is broken: Counter, counter, counter, counter, counter... (dont me wrong, i love the game)

If you countert counter counter, you will be thrown thrown thrown...And thats only one option out of many.

Yeah, aren't throws like the fastest moves in DOA2:H, AND unescapable?

Throws are not the fastest, Holds(reversals are), and yes reversals are inescapable.

IMO Vf4evo and Doa3(not listed) are the most balanced fighters out there.

hmm... in SC2, the overall game has problems, but in terms of character balance:

at a recent major tourney, EVO, the top 8 were all different characters. so yeah, it's fairly balanced.

Lizardman, Assassin, Berserker, Necrid, + Console specific characters are all banned.

I don't feel like defending the game any further, but don't talk about crap you don't know.

from what i've played VF4:Evo is the most balanced but for fun i really did enjoy MK:DA, maybe its just the classic characters comin back in a better 3D game than the last attempt, but i liked it. I really enjoyed Raiden (i used to play subzero) i liked his fighting styles and the staff a lot, very fun game to just pick up and play, but lackin any sort of depth.

The computer in most fighters can be abused by one tactic or another. Countering all the time do not work well against a well versed human opponent. /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That the one where you could abuse jumping sidekick -> low sweep -> jumping sidekick -> low sweep?

Barbarians on C64 rocked! Or maybe I'm thinking of the 128.

That would be the one yeah. Fuck that game was ace though... I'd like a similar game but with nowaday standard.

Why not make a hella good simulation of TKD or Karate or something like that in which all the characters have the same (big) movelist but are really advanced and balanced (and some moves would just be hella hard to do Akira style)?
Atleast there couldn't be character inbalances and hell, dunno why but I think it could work... going around in tourneys / enviroments and so on and perhaps in singelplay (as in boxinggames) you could up your damage thru training and so on but in VS it was all the same. ... Hmmm, getting madly of topic. Hell... IK wasn't even a 3d fightinggame to begin with so nvm.

Um, I play a lot of SC2. I compete in tournaments here in Toronto regularly. I am also a very active member of the forums at www.soulcalibur.com, pretty much the site, as SC2 goes (Guard Impact doesn't count, because it's practically abandoned). Characters from across the board win tournaments, with the exception of Yunsung, Raph, and Maxi (the generallly accepted bottom 3).

I know the system very well, and am also well aware of the power of step. It's not unstopable, though, thanks to a usefull button labelled 'A'. All sarcasm aside, though, step is far from broken. It's powerful.

Also, my point was that SC2 was better balanced than any other 3D fighter, except for VF. I'm still standing by that.

I'm just curious about something re SC2. I've heard some characters don't have an attack that's fast enough to take advantage of the window that's created by GI, is this true? If it is, does this affect character balance?

on a different note, while the DOA series does have some problems, the Holds aren't one of them, IMO. People that complain about the Holds in DOA usually don't understand the game's system. DOA 1 rules!
