Pad players at a disadvantage for VF on PS3?

I've seen and read some of the reviews on this game already, and the news is bad for pad players. Something about the 6ax unable to keep up with all the button inputs and data transfer rate hiccups and stuff.

That really sucks for people who prefer to play fighters on a D-pad.

    But I'll deal with it.

It's not like using a pad against a mouse and keyboard player in an FPS. It's just a more accuarate. I suck at using sticks so i stick to using a pad.

yeah.. the pad drops out every so often. it's very frustrating especially when you're fighting in a tournament where you only have 15 seconds to deal damage to your opponent and your signal drops out for like 5 seconds!! That's why I'm gonna have to get me one of those Hori fighting sticks. I'm not hardcore enough to get the 100 dollar sticks yet.

I honestly can't see how people play on pads for any fighter really. I use to as well awhile back. But since forcing myself to switch, I just -cannot- go back. If not from a technical standpoint, a fun standpoint. I compare it to playing Virtua cop with a pad versus the gun lol.

I definitely understand the cost factor from preventing some. But don't let sticks intimmidate you. If you do fine on a pad, the adjustment time wouldn't be nearly as long as you would think on a stick. (Plus if you get good on a stick, you can use it for many games, and even play at arcades without trouble.)

Thats absolute bollocks. I play on a stick but literally the only person within 100 miles of me that vaguely plays vf, plays on a pad. If it drops out when I play him then hes not gonna play at all, ever. Makes the £600 to play one game even more bull****. Is there really any point getting a ps3? If the 360 controllers weren't so wank for fighting games I might have waited for that version. Good one Sony.

I play on both pad and stick..while the ps2 pads were much better I can say with experience the pad wont drop out if its connected to the ps3 via the usb..My advice is to buy a longer usb cable

Have you played the PS3 version of VF5?

Are you sure the connection won't lag out if the 6ax is connected with a wire? I don't mind having the usb cable connected to the pad especially if it will keep me from lagging while I play VF.

I hope I don't have to learn stick just because the pad is at a serious disadvantage.

I just don't like the fact that you have to get a feel for the diagnols on a stick through trial and error. On a pad, you know exactly where d/f, d/b, u/f, u/b is.

Plus, I have a dextrous left thumb that knows fighting games. I guess I'll teach my wrist to be dextrous at Plagues house. lol.

Yea I played vf5 quite a few times with both pad and stick..the reason why the pad lags is because its send data via bluetooth. when the battery is dead you can no longer play wirelessly which means you have too connect the controller to the ps3 with the usb which serves as a direct link. From my experience it didnt lag when I plugged it in, if it did then so would the sticks.

Hmm, I don't think any humans can notably point out the lag with the wireless controller lol...

it isnt really lag perse, rather the controller just drops out on given moments..it occurs rarly but in a fighting game vf espeically it gets rather annoying

I also was planning on getting the Hori stick at ebgames.com today. But I think I will stick to the siaxis controller instead. The hori stick is pricey, and will only work wiht ps3 games. I might reconsider if the siaxis controller gives me problems.

I have different skills with different sticks. With the ball shaped joystick I can move around the arena alot better. With the baseball shaped joystick. I can due a snap motion that does the B,F,F motion easily, left side only and my double palms come out a lot easier.
I don't know maybe one day I will adapt my one skills to the ball shaped joystick; but for now the snap motion is easier with the baseball shaped joystick, and it just feels right for double palm.

I just went to a DR tourney where they used convertors to use PS2 controllers on the PS3. Works like a charm with no problems.

CLA, were did they buy the converters? I need to buy some. Tell me!!

What it really is... is just a standard USB convertor for PCs. But it works on the PS3 as well.

It is only $12 and they bought them at a Radio Shack in a mall.

Official product info to ask for:

    USB Adapter for PlayStation®2 Controller
    Model: 2600729

When using it, make sure Analog is turned on the PS2 controller.

See, the percentage to that is from 15% to five when it drops out. It really isn't much of a big deal.

Cla will such a usb adapter work if you buy the version to make xbox 1 controllers work on pcs?

Probably not. But if I ever see the Xbox convertors, I'll buy one and try.
