Obviously, I use Lei Fei and I use the pad. Not a problem, I can execute all his moves no problem....or at least I could. All of a sudden I can't hit htis combo /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
From 2nd player side this thing just misses and misses and misses. Its super frustrating. I used to nail it 95/100 times. Now I'm hitting 50% or less in dojo...I think my controller is janking out, but the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gifbutton seems to work in all other respects, and I'm still nailing the combo like clockwork from 1p side. I just don't get it.

Don't know much about Lei Fei but I think that combo is from closed stance, maybe that's your problem?

    ... and get a stick!

no, no, its not a closed vs open stance issue, I assure you. I used the hori stick at my bros house this weekend, and man was it AWKWARD. But I do plan to make the switch soon. Can't find a stick here in town (or back at my hometown) so i'd have to bite the bullet and order one of those expensive ones online.

Maybe it is you pad that's causing the problems, weird how you are you're only having trouble with it from P2 side though haha.

The Hori EX2 is pretty cheap, there's loads on ebay.

You might pay less on ebay even with shipping for an EX2, than you'd pay in the stores. A lot of people around here use EX2's, they're not top of the line but they'll get the job done.

Before you do the big conversion, just think about the reputation you'll have. Jiggling around random sticks isn't the way of a manly man. Take it up on the Springer Show

How about thhose USB Dualshocks? They run about $7 + shipping i would suggest checking that out.

    lei fei.....pad monster

    YEAH....Another pad warrior...errr Raider should I say.

I'm thinking that its not as imparetive to use a Stick to be a super lei as it is with some other charactars. It seems like you me, VF5935 (aka. VF-Lunchcard) and even the exremest cidkid can all pull off Lei Fei with a pad. (altho i think VF5935 actually uses the mini joystick on the standard controller), but who knows.

It's gonna make a much bigger difference with Akira or Goh... Any character that requires a heavy amount of CD buffering, I think the stick is advantageous. If your character isn't too input-heavy, it probably doesn't make a big difference at all...

    here's something to think about.

lei fei is actually easier to play on a pad. that is, if you map p+k+g into one button. that will get you : easier to dance with no fuck ups, stance switching with no fuck ups. all at the touch of one button, feels like cheating a bit doesnt it?

nah, not cheating, my xbox 360 came with that lousy controller and i had to carve it up (mod) just to get it to be slightly responsive, i didn't even map the button, when i purchased VF5 it came preprogrammed with one button being stance change /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif all set up for me and everything.....must be the way it was supposed to be played /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif if not they would have given me an arcade stick with it, or not had the controller all set up for me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yeah, i've used pad for 20 some years and now i'm a stick player. It's inputs are quicker but...in crunch time i think it still hinders me with stick. When it gets down to the wire there i times i know i would be more decisive/confident with a reg old controller in my hand. Also, it is harder to evade, so sometimes i wonder if i'd be better off with the controller instead. U can do all lei's moves with a controller, most of his combos not only do not need buffering, but i actually have to slow down my fastest input for...of course i'm not that good anyway.

I think one of the biggest differences is being able to hit the buttons on the Hori with more control. The nice arcade buttons make G-canceling easier and complicated button presses are easier for me on the Hori.

Then I feel like I'm faster on the stick so it's better. I was a die-hard pad player for a long, long time and swore I'd probably never switch. Once I got the stick, honestly, I'd never go back to fighting with the pad... I even got a second stick I liked the first one so much.

I wonder why the stick doesn't have p+k+g programmed in one button? I mean an average fighting game stick has 6 buttons. VF (normally) uses 3.

Game was developed for arcade cabinets. Ones that don't even have a controller port. It was designed for Stick. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    Re: lei fei.....pad monster

Because when the buttons are laid out like that it's easier to hit P+K+G no problem. OM canceling is much easier for me on a stick for example. I kind of piano-key press G then punch quickly after an OM to cancel it into a jab. That's a fairly complicated sequence with tight timing and is easier with the arcade buttons...
