Pages taking too long to load in UK

Ahem. Sorry about that. I just wanted to find out (not that anybody looks down here) - is anyone else having problems with the site taking AGES to serve pages? I'm in the UK and sometimes it can take over five minutes to serve me a page. Sometimes it's instantaneous and there's no problem. It's random, not tied to any time of the day. Myke says he has no problems and he's in Australia, and the site is hosted in the States. I know of two other people in the UK who also have the problem, is this UK-specific?

Note your server frustrations/lack of problems here!

To help troubleshoot the problem, the next time you experience the site being slow, please follow these steps:

    1. Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.sourceforge.net/winmtr_bin.zip
    2. Extract the zip and run WinMTR.exe
    3. In the host field, enter virtuafighter.com
    4. Click Start
    5. Let it run about 15 minutes, then click Copy Text to clipboard
    6. Reply to this thread with the text copied from step 5 (enclosed in
      Code:

To those that complained about the site being slow, is it still occurring?

i just noticed something pretty consistent...

if i leave vfdc on IE open for about 5-10 min after i open it, the site functions just fine. but if i start navigating from start, that's when i encounter severe slowdown.

also, after executing "tracert virtuafighter.com" on a command prompt, i get:

    "Tracing route to virtuafighter.com [74.200.80.37]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 10.0.4.1 reports: Destination net unreachable.

    Trace complete."

ElectricLeo, those results look perfect -- are you still experiencing slow performance?

CheF, that IP address is on your ISP end. Try the WinMTR program I suggested.

I am not sure if this is the same problem that you are having with the site, but I noticed that on the same network connection, my labtop has no problem browsing VFDC while my desktop does.

I used Safari Browser on my labtop and Internet Explorer on the desktop, so maybe try a different browser?

    akai, good pick up!

For those experiencing slow response times, please let me know what browser and version you're using to see if there's any trend.

Also, try using a different browser as a comparison.

As you can probably tell, the site is working fine for many people (otherwise I'm sure there'd be an uproar). And again, for me all the way down in Australia, I've yet to experience any problem with this site which is hosted in the US.

    Re: Nonsense burble bleeky bloo

Another thing you could do is check the page generation time reported at the bottom of any forum page. For e.g.

Generated in 0.065 seconds in which 0.024 seconds were spent on a total of 13 queries. Zlib compression enabled.

If the generation time you see isn't in the 0.0xx range, then the slow down is on the server end. But if you see small generation times but still end up waiting a while to see the page, then chances are it's local. As many have reported, the latest IE seems to be the culprit.

I don't use the latest IE at all, so I can't comment on whether or not there's a way to rectify this.
