Ok so I've finally gotten the voltage crap sorted out but now I find that the picture is either black and white or scrolling around the screen (or both) depending on the tv I hook it up to.

I had this same problem with 60hz VF in the UK and an RGB cable fixed it. I can't use my RGB here since TVs here don't have scart sockets it seems (none of mine do). So when I try using my old regular ones I get the crappy picture. This is straight away before I even load a game up btw.

Is my playstation sending a PAL signal or something? Do I need a converter of some kind or will buying the american ps2-to-TV cable fix the problem.

Hope somebody knows how to help.

    Thanks.

Edit: VF works on 60hz perfectly fine so I think it must be to do with the usual 50hz output my ps2 sends. Any help would be appreciated so I can use my games that don't have the 60hz option.

    cant be done

    pal is 625lines at 25frames/50hz

    ntsc is 525lines at 29.97frames/60hz

when a pal games is released it has black boarders on the top and bottom... right???

this is because it was made for ntsc's 525line resolution!

so with a pal game its still 525 lines but with an extra 50lines at top and bottom of "black bars"

so this will fit with pal tv's 625line tube

(in reality you can only see 576line on pal tvs, but thats another story)

some tvs in the uk (well most modern ones) are 60hz compatable and if they can run import gamesin colour via AV composite/S-video this means it is 60hz and NTSC compatable (NTSC is a way of puting the colour in the video signal)

anyways basicly in usa there is no need for them to be compatable with PAL/50hz as they get a shit load of films and the tv companys cant be bothered

usa tv's will not like the PAL 625line signal as theres no way it can "fit" on to a 525line tube!

and besides it wont be able to be in sinc up with a 25frame/50hz signal when its only made for 29.97 and 30frames per second

thats the reason its scrolling up or down

and the reason its in black and white is because it can "decode" the colour sub-carrier that PAL uses to put colour in the black and burst pulses!

basicly buy a usa ps2 for $50 and usa vf evo for $5 on ebay!

you could use a digital standards convertor but they cost like £99 for the cheepest and they may add a few frames of lag as its digittizes the input to its line/frame buffer!

I can play evo because it runs at 60hz, I just can't play all my other games.

If I buy an american ps2 can I get it chipped to play my UK games?

evo runs at 60hz and with nearly every UK game that runs in 60hz its also running in NTSC!

evo at 60hz is outputting the NTSC 525lines

so thats why you can play it!

PAL games (ie 50hz 625lines) will not work on usa tvs for said reason in above post

so if you get a usa ps2 and chip is to run all games, when u run a pal game it will run in pal!

like when u chip a uk ps2 and run a ntsc game on it it runs in ntsc!

so basicly you cant play uk/pal games in usa

but you could try a ps2 vga adaptor as long as theres no lag

but u will have to use a vga monitor of corse

Easy option chip your pal ps2, if possible, (there's also the swap disc method) every game you put into it will output at it's native resolution.
Only problem you would encounter is if the Pal games you which you already own have no 60 hrtz option, which would mean you'd have to buy us versions. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I think the conversion process is too costly and in the end your better off getting a u.s copy.
(This along with one of the many reasons (i.e, release dates, costs, no borders, speed issues etc) Is why I say it's always wise to import , Pal market sucks /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

    Tech question for Random:
Does any of the new hdtv's in the u.s have 50hrtz pal display options?

why would usa need to run 50hz?

basicly no, their HDTVs run 480i,480p,720p,1080i and if your really lucky 1080p!

some are xvga , basicly think of a HDTV set as a big ass widescreen vga monitor, as monitors are naturaly "progressive scan" (ie they do full frames not interlaced fields to to scumy frames)

I've got UK dvds as well as games. Will a multi-regional dvd player be able to play them over here then or will they suffer from the same problems as my games?

Yeah I read them, don't start being a twat for no reason again.

What's the point of a multi-regional dvd player then if the tv crap wont let it work anyway. Are they just for use in PAL regions mainly then?

All this region shit is really unnecessary....

You want a multi region, multi standard DVD player - this means it will play DVDs from all regions and also convert PAL to NTSC.

For consoles etc, you could try getting a PAL-NTSC converter for about $200 from www.voltageconverters.com - though I haven't tried this myself so can't vouch for it actually being any good. BTW you can also get the step up transformers and plug adaptors etc from that site.

didnt i already said that those £99 "digital" standards convertors put lag on the output???

okay for films, unusable for fast games such as vf
