More than 70,000 people in Australia have declared that they are followers of the Jedi faith, the religion created by fanatics of Star Wars films.

Most of the 70,509 people who wrote Jedi on their census forms were suspected to have done so in response to an e-mail encouraging all Star Wars fans to get it recognised as an official religion.

calling yourself a Jedi = freak, just like calling yourself a Klingon, or any other sci-fi related material. and i 2nd your vote. actually, we just need a butterfly knife for those cases: "let's see your plastic lightsaber handle this!" /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

erm, which of those religions believes in being able to move shit around with your mind and gain nifty reflexes and gigantic leaps? Using tiny little magical particles?

Not to defend the 'religion', it's a bunch of weenies who should probably have gotten lives long agao... but it's so tedious when people are quick to cry "ripoff!" or "conspiracy" ... if you have some specifics shared by both religions, aside from maybe saying kami=mitochondria or whatever... I'm curious to hear them.

Oh come on creed, those religions that I have mentioned all play a part of that so called jedi faith, all of those religions that I mentioned are some of the bases of the jedi faith. And I think we all know that you can't move something with your mind, thats just hollywood bull, but you can control your chi. I'm just saying that jedi faith has setiments of different aspects of other religions in it. Maybe you should do some research yourself. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

you replied to nycat, not me. Careful bout that.

re: jedi faith. I'm too lazy to look up the supposed tenets of jedi faith, if there are "official" ones written down somewhere. You tell me what they are if you're the expert on it. I'd like some proof that there are specific parts of jedi faith that are 'ripoffs' of specific beliefs in eastern religions. Because to me you sound like you're saying something just to sound like you have an intelligent opinion and to impress us with your worldliness and knowledge of eastern religions. Anyway even if jedi faith DOES have lots of aspects of other religions, that's just the nature of religions - they borrow from each other and when a country is flooded with others from another land, that country will borrow the bits and pieces they like from the invaders... the includes religions. I doubt there are many religions with entirely unique ideas.

You just proved my point that some of the aspects are from other religions, thank you creed. Thats all I was trying to say, and I don't think I'm smart, I didn't mean to offend anyone I'm sorry if I did. /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

Uh, no I didn't. Read it again. I said I wanted proof of the so-called ripoff, and that IF (that's a hypothetical) there were aspects of other religions in this 'faith' , that doesn't mean it's a ripoff. The word "ripoff" is negative and disparaging, and doesn't mean the same thing as whatever-you-would-call-the-process-of-religions-gradually-absorbing-popular-bits-from-other-cultures [osmosis I guess].

Thats all I was trying to say, and I don't think I'm smart, I didn't mean to offend anyone I'm sorry if I did.

You didn't offend me, don't worry - but you probably would have offended anyone who belongs to Jedi Faith. But we sort of agree in a very broad sense... the jedi shit is lame. I don't really care about offending one, I just thought your statement sounded unresearched and sort of arrogant. But I've been known to do that on a weekly basis, I probably should have just shut up about it. Ok, I'll stop now ^__^

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle,81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down and shot off their testicles.

The old lady spent a week hunting those men down --
and when she found them, she took revenge on them in her own special way,- said Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp. Then she took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the sergeant's desk and told him as calm as could be: Those bastards will never rape anybody again, the force was with me on this hunt.

Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cellmate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up. The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas' testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said.

The one guy, Thomas, didn't lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he would not be using it the way he used to. Detective Delp told reporters. Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they're just happy to be alive after what they've been through.

The Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row.
"When I saw the look on my Debbie's face that night in the hospital, I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself 'cause I figured the Law would go
easy on them," recalled the retired library worker.
"And I wasn't scared of them, either -- because the force is with me always and besides I've got me a gun and I've been shootin' all my life. And I wasn't dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed about owning one." So, using a police artist's sketch of the suspects and Debbie's description of the sickos', Jedi Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill-fated rapists entering their hotel. I knew it was they the minute I saw 'em, but I shot a picture of 'em anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was them, the oldster recalled. So I went back to that hotel and found there Room and knocked on the door -- and the minute the big One, Fourth, opened the door, I shot 'em right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt 'em most, you know. Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading to me to spare him.
Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in. Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny. What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison. Det. Delp said, especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for a medal. /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif
