Phantasy Star Online 2

VF5FS isn't the only long-awaited sequel Sega has up its sleeve. PSO2 is around the corner with an amazing and awesome overhaul of an upgrade that is all kinds of epic, all for FREE. (yep, PSO2 is a free-to-play game) The Japanese version is going through public open beta and you can start playing it right now! And characters WILL transfer over to the final version! (not that you'll be able to play Japanese chars on US version though. Well, so I'm assuming)

Also on the page, click the big SEGA ID button to create a Sega ID. Use Google or something to translate the page to help you through. After you make it, you will have to log-in (also done from this same link by clicking the smaller SEGA ID button) and accept the Terms. BUT that involves passing a Japanese Captcha. Use this Katagana keyboard to help you out:

Note that you can only make 1 char. But don't stress too much over your choice cause you can freely change class. (Hunter/Ranger/Force/etc)

 

I've been playing this for the past 4 days and it's incredible. If you were a fan of the original like I was then you are absolutely going to love this game. I really hope this gets a USA release.

Protip to people playing with keyboard and mouse: Press Z to switch to an alternate camera mode that works SO MUCH BETTER.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that I too am on Ship 2. It seems that's where most English players are.

I swear I remember hearing it's been confirmed that a US version (or at least an "International" version for all of the rest of the world) is coming. But I'm not seeing any actual info about this so I guess I remembered wrong.

my mouth is watering at the very thought of pso2! I do hope that it gets an international release as I feel SEGA would be doing a great injustice the western community.

I guess once my PC upgrade comes next month, I might dabble with the jp version to see what it's like.

How are the customization options for character making?

I have no idea what your rig is like but I've been told you can run it on really low specs, actually.

Told myself I'd just wait til retail but not sure I can. Every PSO from DC to GC to PC has owned my life at some point in time, moderately scared to get sucked back into it all haha.

I really have to try this one out. Although I am an avid fan of the original RPG series on the Sega Genesis, only recently did I find the joy that everyone describe in Phantasy Star Online (Although I definitely hold a special place in my hear for Episode 3 C.A.R.D. Battle). I may just wait though for it to hit U.S. shores. Sega would be stupid to keep it since they closed down the Phantasy Star Online Universe servers just recently. We will see!
