Thanks to everyone who came out. I believe only the grand finals were recorded, unfortunately VF was the first tourney of the day, and there were some AV setup issues.

Was complete fluke that I manged to make it to this, just happened to be in Seattle for 2 weeks working at the university of washington and I saw this up on Dust Loop and entered.

Had a really good time, even tho it was only a few of us in the corner (thankfully we had HD setups! :)).

Thanks to Clayton for running everything so smoothly and to Clayton and Mike for some good casuals later on in the day.

RayBladeX plays a very solid Vanessa, didn't really know how to approach him.

    Good games to everyone!

Thanks for the explanation. I looked at that list and said "Wait... WHERE was this held? RayBladeX went to the UK? What?"

Seattle! Find a way to visit SoCal, man! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Great games to all! I wish I had the recorder set up before finals, otherwise there would be matches up already on youtube.

Thomas is the other Aoi player. I play him almost weekly at the Versis Thursday night fights =)

Thought I'd post up a couple comments for the tourney... I'll pretend I'm chanchai, since he didn't make it, lol.

RayBladeX: He was really playing on a different level than anyone else that was there that day. Congratulations on a well-deserved victory.

Frank: Your Eileen is incredibly flashy, and always has been, it's really too bad we didn't get earlier matches recorded, since it's just fun to watch you play. I really still can't believe I beat you that day, since our record of tourney matches is something like 15-2 in your favor. Really fun fight.

LM_Akira: Your execution is off the charts, man. I've never seen so many DLCs in such a short time. I still feel kinda bad about my wins against you. You really destroyed me when I tried to play seriously, and then I'd get confused, and go into Tenchi stance and just hold it for 3 seconds... and then out of nowhere you'd elbow me for the loss.

Zass: I used to laugh whenever I played against you (not at you), because you really carried over your street figher-based understanding of positioning tricks, but never really seemed to understand VFs close-combat timing. That finally changed at this tourney, I don't how you did, but you've finally managed to really start capitalizing on mistakes the way a VF player should, without losing any of weird positioning trickiness. Congrats and getting so high in the tourney, I think you really deserved it.

Thomas: Just wanted to echo earlier statements, you've got quite an amazing Aoi. I also have no clue how I beat you in the tourney, after you just wrecked me in every single casual match we had the entire rest of the day. You're a lot more patient than me, and you're playstyle actually matches up with Aoi's abilities somewhat better than mine, from what I saw. Fun matches.

Thanks for the compliments man but you gave me plenty of trouble during the tourney. There were so many strings and pokes I didn't know what to do against and I kept missing my ground throw escape too. The casuals afterwards were really fun, I have literally no experience playing against an Aoi in VF5 so I was learning a lot. It was fun to mess around with some other characters too.

I always find tournies funny things anyway, don't think I've ever been able to play at my absolute best during a tournament (and that goes for any game) but that's not the point, it's about doing enough to beat the other guy you're playing.

Now I don't feel bad to losing to Thomas. Sucks that he's in PDX and not the 206 but oh well. I gotta get down there for some matches before Random Select.

I think that's one of my main problems, is that I tend to go for the oohs and aaaahs from the crowd, more than tryin to get the W, this applies to Marvel too. But yeah I started out well in the winners bracket, but as it got closer and closer for me to go to work my mind started focusing more on trying to not be super late to work instead of the tournament, but you did get me in the end. I am a choke artist if I'm coming from losers....but I always have my ticket to Straight City when I'm going into the grand final in the winners bracket.
