Just got the "white label" vinyl from my boys record pool (IllWill166, Good looking out, mate)
I was going to put this in the music thread, but this is Portishead we're talking about here folks. One thing for sure, it was worth the wait. Geoff Barrow, shows why he IS THE MAN! When it comes to making beats. Dark, Grimy and Powerful. Don't let me get started on Beth's vocals.
I wasn't sure on how they were going to top their previous album "Cowboys" But they did. This album is freaking dark as hell, less "Sci-Fi" sound effects and very heavy on the Keys.

When you hear the track "Small" it starts of very typical Portishead fashion, sound effects playing in the background and Beth, doing what she does best, but 3mins into the track, all of sudden, the beat kicks in with some crazy breaks, Keys and heavy bass, Nutz I tell. When it officially drops, ya need to pick this up, fo'real. Oh Yeah, F! Kanye West, and he's water down RZA beats *Just felt like saying that*

I had heard that the album was a let down to fans but now that I see what you say I will trust you. I wish I could get a hold of it right now and then buy it when it comes out later.

Man, I cant wait till april 28th. I've been listening to them since the first album and would check monthly since their last album on when the next one was due out. Two years ago I got depressed when I heard that the rumored third album named "alien" was just a hoax. P is in a really tough position having to live up to their last two albums after a break this long.

I was very tempted to go and see them here in the UK.

I don't know what "this" fans expected. This album is solid. Each P album, has a theme they go with. Dummy and Cowboys, has the same sound effects arrangement. But, Cowboys, had more of a 60's pop feel to it, compare to Dummy(Due to budget of course). This album I'll compare it to Dummy, for it's Dark nature, and String arrangements. Is quite evident when you hear tracks like "The Rip" "Plastic" and "Hunter". This is album is Dark, like I stated before.

There's reallly no chorus in any of the songs, just straight lyrics. So, I could see how the "Casuals" who can't remember a single sentence in a song, would have a problem. Everybody and their mother mimic Geoff Barrow production style(Same could be said the RZA) So, you could see why he went on a different style compare to the previous ones.
