Possibly moving to Tokyo...help!

Hi all,
I've been offered a job in Shinjuku, which I'm seriously contemplating. I've heard it's a pretty insane place during the evening, so I don't plan to live there. Can anyone recommend a nice part of Tokyo (if such a thing exists!) which is a reasonable commute and isn't going to TFT my wallet please? Ideally I want somewhere quiet-ish and safe. If I'm living in a dreamland, please feel free to laugh in my face...or provide some useful, coherent information.

Have you tried asking in japan-guide.com? They have a pretty good forum for this type of questions.

 

Will you be living in Shinjuku-ku or "Shinjuku". The ward isn't bad, and has some decent places to live. Safe is pretty much everywhere in Japan... quiet, is not. If they want you to live in Shinjuku (in the city) then ask to move to a nearby spot (Tomigaya is where I live - not the cheapest, but not bad, and a good comute to either Shinjuku or Shibuya). Living in Shinjuku isn't dangerous, but you'll have chinese whores asking to suck your cock as you walk home at night.
