I should really write a Video games blog and get my memoirs documented... but here it goes.

OK, about a year ago, I stumbled on Racketboy.com and their great "rarest and most valuable games" write ups for various consoles.

Being the Sega fan that I am, I had a couple of games on their list for the Saturn...

    http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/saturn/the-rarest-and-most-valuable-sega-saturn-games

The game that I take most pride in owning is Panzer Dragoon Saga. I knew years back that this game was selling for $200+ on eBay. This game was highly anticipated on my part, as the early reviews on the internet claimed it arguably the best RPG on any console. It also helped I played Panzer Zwei to death, ultimately opening the Pandora's box option when you beat all the levels 100%. Yeah, I had to get Saga.

But rumors had it that the game would be produced in limited quantities, and initially, I was just happy to get a copy. The game didn't disappoint, and I was content to play just a magnificent game. At the time though, I had a website on Geocities called "Sega-Holic" which started out as hand coded HTML on the Saturn (taught myself). A friend I met at the time through a video games forum- Joe Fongul, had tons and tons of "inside Sega info." He used to contribute a column that I posted on Sega-Holic called the "Fongul Reports." Cheesy, I know. But it was he who told me to pick up what ever copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga I could find cause it would be even more limited that people thought.

I called everywhere, each freakin Babbages/Software ETC's along with the moms&pops video games stores on the island. I got what is the open copy from Ala Moana Sofware ETC. A week later, Toys N Joys had a copy, and remembering Joe's advice, I picked it up, and it's been sealed ever since.

Sealed baby... Thanks for the advice Joe, wherever you are. My most cherished game.

The all important hang tab. There are a lot of false info out there on the type of cello seal this game originally had.

Funny that no one outside of Sega die-hards played this game at the time and just how much the worth of the game skyrocketed so fast.

Yup, got it at launch... or as close to launch as it could get here in Hawaii.

OK, Panzer was rare, but here is a pair of a rarer game: Daytona CCE Netlink Edition.

Here's the short story... I got the Netlink on launch, it was my portal to my first experience on the web. Obviously I had to get Netlink games. I got two of them to allow for Netlink mode. Never played them linked though [IMG]

Again, I stumbled on the Racketboy.com Saturn article listed above less than a year ago. SHOCKED to see this game listed as the rarest NA Saturn game, even more expensive than Panzer Saga... and I got two!!!

    That made laugh.

Blog it up though, there's plently of fresh, unused megabytes of internet memory just waiting to be filled with tales of rare and valuable video games.

I own a copy of PDS as well. Still in great condition. I've got the 3rd rarest cd cover art for Lunar 1 on sega cd.

I'd have to go thru and look at my collection of 700+ games and see how many rare's/collectibles I have.

I play em once and and put them in drawer. Then, when I have more than I can fit, I bring them to the store downtown and accept $0.35 each.

I have too many rare items [IMG]

How about VF5R and FS arcade boards?

Elemental Gearbolt Assassin's Case is most likely the rarest console item I own.

I wish I still had the box and guide that came with my Earthbound cart. I suppose it's not the rarest thing in the world, but Earthbound is my favorite JRPG. This is from an ebay auction I found:

    Some nice stuff in here.

Dom, BR4 was pretty hard to find, even back when it was new. This may make it "semi-rare". Also the fact of how notoriously terrible it was lol.

Reading this thread about rare games makes me feel gutted about losing my copy of Megaman X6 whilst moving houses. They're now valued between 60 - over 120 pounds on some sites and I only paid 12 pounds when the PSOne was still fresh! [IMG]

I'll also try and see if I can dig up some old games and post them up cos I'm sure I've got a few.....

Apologies for shitty photos, I've been taking these for Twitter with an iTouch cam.

Parents brought 90% of the contents still sitting in my room in IA to SF the other week, I've slowly been working my way through the treasures...

I own Panzer Dragoon Saga for SS, still in its shrink wrap. [IMG]

I bought Shining Force 3 and lent it to a friend a week after I got it and I didn't even play it. He then said he lent it to someone else and I never saw it again. We aren't friends now. [IMG]

SS Bomberman is great. Its my favorite version of any Bomberman game. I actually got 10 people to play at once on time. [IMG]
