    I`m having diffiulties with taking large amounts of life in a single string/combo. Esp taking more than 70 pts is hard. Also hard to do 4+ combo hits, since e.g. from offensive [6][K],[K],[P],[P] doesn`t seem to work. Is it just me? Anyone got advice?

    Have you tired going through tactics and advice in training mode? If not try this thread out:

    http://virtuafighter.com/versuscity/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=training&Number=82728&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=3

    Vanessas down the bottom with at least 8 transcribed combos. Also if you go into training, bring up the command list for her and hit X you'll be given a list of combo start moves.

    I'm just starting to play Vanessa myself but I don't think she has masses of high damage combos like Akira, Jacky or Lau say. She does have good defensive and offensive properties though with regards to her two styles. Hope this is of some use to you.

    well, thanks, but I know those, and if the opponent is guarding high, the most damaging ones won`t work. I`m at school now, so I won`t be able to check the combo starters. Any other combos?

    what about that 4+ hit combo, IS it just me?

    If I get the time I'll add some for you from the list. She has a few good combos that don't require a counter hit and quite a few that will need a counter hit to start off with. Like I said massive damage combos proabably aren't her stock in trade.

    I don't have too many problems doing 4 hit combos or occasionally 5 or 6. Just look at that list to find some. If in doubt check the vanessa faq or better still maybe ask zero_chan if shes willing to give you some help. I think KTallguy also plays as her. Another pointer would be to save matches that you play Vs ai Vanessas. They often used some decent combos.

    Vanessa's combo ability is fairly poor, and probably one of her weak points. Nonetheless there is some pretty good stuff. I'll look over the combo lists here when I get a chance and see if there's anything I should tack on.

    She does have a majorly damaging combo in OS, but it involes the opponent not staggering, which is about as likely as Bush going Democrat. Since I could never use it I've forgotten it at the moment, but it relies on [6][6]+[K] for a starter.

    Okay here some stuff I've just been messing round with in training. All don't require a counter hit ( but I've put down damage you can get on counter )

    From Defensive style:

    [3][P]+[K]>[6][P][K][K] open or closed 63 and 74 on counter
    [4][4][K]+[G](gut collapse)>[2][P]>[3][K] open or closed 42 and 54 on counter ( to get the kick you need to hold [3_] for a sec otherwise you'll get a light down attack )
    [1][K]+[G]> [6][P][K][K] vs LWs closed or open gives 68
    Vs MWs the list suggests [P][P][P][K] and Vs HWs and Akira and Jacky [6][P]>[3][K] for 60

    On counter hit of [1][K]+[G] things change slightly:

    [1][K]+[G](MC)>[P]>[6][P]>[3][K] LWs closed 79 in open try [6][6][P][P] for 75
    Vs MWs try [6][P][K][K] or HWs in open try [6][P]>[3][K]

    From Offensive style:

    [6][P]+[K]>[3][P]+[K][K] ( beatdown attack...) open or closed not Vs HWs 48 and 58 on counter
    [6][P]+[K]>short dash[6]>[2][P]>[3][K][K] awkward but in closed works up to Akira and Jacky.

    [4][4][K]+[G] can be followed by [3][P]+[K][K] for 58 or 70 on counter or [2][P]>[3][K][K] 59 or 71 on counter or Vs HWs try ending with [P]>[3][K][K] for 66 or 88 on counter I think.

    [1][K]+[G]>[P]>[3][P]+[K][K] closed 68 or 83 on counter
    [1][K]+[G]>[4][6][P][P][P][K] ( delay timing slightly ) open 65

    Theres a whole load more in the list that start with a counter hit but these are useful since they don't.

    Vanessa can do a grip of damage fast but most of the time it's not in the form of juggles. Her most practical combo starter is the Gut Punch in DS. Unfortunately the combos from this aren't the greatest. [3][P]+[K] in DS is best used out of dodge or a well read anti throw move. In OS damaging combos come in the form of the MC WS [K] which isn't the easiest move to set up. You also can do some creative things in OS off of [4][6][P]+[K] or a MC [4]+[P].

    However I find playing to get combos takes Vanessa away from her true strengths especially since her combo starters are so damn weird. The only one you should really go out of your way to use is the Gut Punch. I think your time would be better spent finding set-ups for her big moves like her monsterous throws and her annoying tackle. Once you start reading your opponent and seeing his patterns you can get crazy damage off something as simple as a dodge attack.

    thanks everybody, after trying some more, I found out it really wasn't that difficult. Think I'll go practise some more on those setups...

    Nobody's mentioned it yet, but I think vanessa has some sort of nice offensive stance knee (maybe FC, neutral +K?) and I remember it was pretty quick and safe. It causes jaw collapse, the same spiffy crumple animation goh's knee causes. You can get some nasty combos from it, if anyone can figure out wtf I'm talking about.

    You can end combos (including one that starts from this knee) using df+P+K,K... the uppercut into heelsword. It slams in floats for a free ground kick if they fail to TR.

    Hope that's useful.

    the one combo I love to do in the OS is the [6][6][P] into a WS (wall stagger) and then wait a second and do the [6][P][K], [3][P][K], [K]. Very good damage for Vanessa and the [6][6][P] is awesome for the WS because it pushes them so far back.

    here are a couple of combos for you to consider. all of the initial hits are on counter :)

    from os -
    [4_][6_][P]+[K] > [2_][P] > [3_][K][K] (open stance), 80
    [4_][6_][P]+[K] > [1_][K]+[G] (closed stance, no tr), 60
    [4_][6_][P]+[K] > [3_][P][P] > [2_][K]+[G] (no tr), 72
    a tr'ing opponent gives this only 63 pts of dmg

    if anyone's interested, i'll try to get some of her wall combos with that combo starter transcribed as well. her wall damage can be sick!

    OK, I looked up that combo I mentioned earlier up here.
    It starts with OS WS[K] -> [6][6][K]. From this point there's a lot of stuff you can do, but remember, the opponent can and most likely will struggle out of the stagger. If they don't struggle, you might want to give [6][P]+[K]->[3][P]+[K],[K] a try. It does some pretty hefty damage, but situations where you'd be able to use it are far from common.

    All sounds good people. Hey icecold I'd love to see those wall combos for a laugh. I've heard of a Shinz vid somewhere where he racks up damage to about 145 or something. I know it'd be on a counter hit and against a wall etc ( maybe even in ver c I dunno ) but I love messing round with sick combos /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

    OS [4][6][P]+[K] combos from Arcadia:

    All combos require a counter hit.

    1. [P] ~ [3][P]+[K][K] [38]
    2. [P] ~ [3][K][K] [36]
    3. [2][P] ~ [3][K][K] [35]
    4. [3][P]+[K][K] [34]
    5. [3][K][K] [32]
    6. [2][K][P][P] [24]
    7. [2][P] ~ WS [P] [23]
    8. [3][P][P] [18]
    9. [3][K] [16]

    ---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+ </pre><hr />

    st = standing
    cr = crouching
    C = Closed stance
    O = Open stance

    An interesting combo that works up to Jeffry is open stance, [4][6][P]+[K] (MC) ~ [P]+[K][P] for a total of 75 points. You can insert a [P] in between for light characters. Jeffry is able to TR however but his timing has to be spot on.

    All Vanessa's best combos are in combo search in free training. Very powerful way to do a lot of damage is to hit [6][6][P] against the wall. Stagger is too much even for CPU. Can wall stagger be recovered?
    Kurita's version as wall combo is very powerful. (Watch Kurita VS Dippy). /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

    after much testing, I`d say
    OS [1][K]+[G],[4][6][P][P][P][K]
    is the easiest way to get a 4 hit combo (just thought I`d mentioned it)

    Not necessarily ALL of them. There are odd flaws in the combo search if you look carefully..

    For instance:
    (DS) [4][6][K] [P] (MC, Open stance) against Jeffry, combo search lists combo [2][P] -- [6][K] (60) as best, whereas you can do simple [P][P][K] (64).

    Or against Goh,
    (DS) [4][6][K] [P](MC, closed stance), combo search gives [6][P]--[3][K] (64) where in fact you can do [6][6][P] [P] (68)

    Also, combo search doesn't really give alternatives with same damage, like where continuation [6][P]--[3][K] (64) is possible you can usually do also [P][P][P] (64) or [P][P][K] (64)

    And this is in Evo version.
