Preparing for Final Showdown!

With FS a couple(few?) months away I was wondering what everyone here is doing for preparation? Maybe you are pouring over information on the frame changes to your character, maybe you are finally going to stop letting 2P/DickPunch/CrouchPunch into ___ stop frustrating you, or even going over your G-Cancel flow charts? Hopefully we can get some of the players in Japan to shine in on what to look forward to and what (ito/in their opinion) to work on.

Until then post up what you feel you need to work on, if anything!

    Me:

I'm working on my defensive OSs like ETEG, ETE, TEG and then going into my offense from there.

Why? Just to get the hang of not freezing up, which is one of my downfalls. As we all know, being passive in defense isn't bad, but you need to be active and constantly on the move, since the tide of the battle can change at any second.

There are other specific areas I need to work on as well, but I'm starting with these and then going from there.

I'm not doing a damn thing.

The one thing I should work on most is hit checking as it is probably one of the most important skills to learn and develop.

I wouldn't worry too much about ETEG and such as FS's defensive techniques are a good deal different. Hit checking, movement and ring awareness are fairly transferable though. I would work on them.

Hit checking and movement are on the list as well. I'm getting movement down, but hit checking is yet another thing I need to work on. I need to go from "HA! Your ass is lit up here comes THIS" to "They lit up, now I'm going into ____ keep the offense going"

For the defense OS, it's just to get me in the habit of not being to passive. I'll freeze and just hold the G button while standing, making me easy prey. It's the one thing I feel I need to get down so I can go on the offensive. MTEs are out but still doing something like TEG, I just need to make a habit out of when I'm it's my turn to defend.

Crouch Dashing from both sides is another one. On the 2P side I have a harder time hitting the directions as fast as I can when I'm on 1P side.

This one here is pretty monumental of a skill to develop. It's also important to notice when it should have been your turn to defend but your opponent didn't realize it, then you have to start attacking/throwing to punish them for not knowing the frames.

Not much. I watch a lot of vids because I enjoy them. That's made me stupidly familiar with the system, combos and even frames in the game. I'm ready to blow people up on day one.

things i've started doing is watching vids and looking at frame data/movelist for my character and seeing what still works and little new things i can practice in training mode.

like for example el blaze can now bound from launcher with 2p+k and 2p from 4p+k and then pressing kkk. there is no kkk in ver.c but i'm just trying to get into the habit of doing it because i noticed at southtown i kept doing the old followups and getting less damage and the times i would remember to do it i was for the most part too slow in getting 2p+k and would drop combos entirely.

i also started playing quest mode without using certain moves that have changed inputs like wr knee, 3p+k string, and 3p (sucks playing with out 14f elbow). but i just try to play with fundamentals and hit checking like if my jab is blocked i do 46p+k which is 16f mid but can have alot of outcomes since it is not guaranteed. if the followup is ch i can combo, if it is blocked i can eteg, if they ch with jab or 2p i'm put into the computers mixup, etc.

other little things i'm trying to do is pay attention to stance and using offensive move from advantage to get to the side/back more instead of just going through the normal attack pattern of netting damage any way possible.

i'm hoping this helps me out for the next southtown ranbat since i didn't do much of any final showdown prep in the previous tournaments and it really showed.

anyways first thing i want to do when the game comes out is go into training mode and setting the computer to guard then 2p and going through all the strings for taka and jean as well as other new strings for all characters to see what the computer can interrupt and try to visually memorize what i can interrupt and what i should just defend against since i have the feeling many new players will just try to do whatever is new at first.

anyways i'm interested to see what other people are doing. [IMG]

I prepare a little different. Quest or kumite. prepares me the most. To me understanding the enemy is the most important thing that I can learn. strings series ect... then max combos. Then its time for the humanistic Im really interested to see if 2p punishment from Evo is viable like backdash low throw.or pause low throw.

I'm really trying to nail down perfect giant swing. I've been experimenting to see if playing on pad makes it easier.

Dunno why I'm doing this, since there's no reason to ever use PGS over burning hammer in Final Showdown... [IMG]

Wait, Dude, what move does El Blaze have to replace 3P??? Is it a new input or is there a new move to replace that body blow? 3p was a major EL Blaze move of mine to keep pressure on the enemy . Somebody answer this please.

no more 3p. i know what you mean though, it was my go to move too. his old 6p is now his 14f class elbow. the thing is 6p is useless to practice in those 14f elbow situations since in ver.c it's 16f.

also the way you used moves like 3p and 3k to stagger crouching opponents doesn't work in fs so body blow would be kind've a useless move since it has no followup. actually alot of moves that used to stagger or crumple now either straight up do a flying knockdown or have some hit throw you can do after.

but yeah little stuff like that really changes how blaze is played and should be kept in mind when moving to fs.

you can check out his fs movelist here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmHS23-CBTIgdExYOUVCREdOaXVBS2RaUmRVZHEzSHc#gid=1 thanks to kruza

I'm sowing the seeds of new players and trying to improve my game in the meantime, which is not an easy combination. I know Brain is committed to getting Final Showdown. I successfully got my roommate and a frequently visiting friend to pick up the game's mechanics in Evolution, and they both seem to really like VF5. My roommate has already noticed how stupidly easy games like SoulCalibur become, if you approach them as you would VF.

I've tested the waters with my brother (who is not a huge fighting game fan, but interested in Final Showdown, nonetheless) and some other friends. The results have varied, but I'm getting better at focusing on having fun before trying to teach too much.

Not true. Burning Hammer is 16f. GS is the normal 10.

And I've been watching vids left, right and center while brushing up on the frame data.

I suppose learning how to play would be a good idea too.
