Propaganda Games

Extra Credits consider the unfortunate potential games have as tools for propaganda.

And they call out one game about this in particular...

 

Those cats pretty much did what Quentin Tarantino did with Inglourious Basterds, except it sold... Sure, many people's perspective on that is different, but it still sold...

I agree that the game dev's should take more caution in making things based on current events, or even world history, but in all honesty, I'm pretty sure the local news isn't talking about what really goes down in most of those parts anyway, especially when it comes to the "war on drugs" in Mexico... You can take your pick: Fox, NBC, BBC, NPR, NHK, CCTV, CNN, whatever. None of those cats are truly explaining what's going on, so anyone can take that story, twist it, and profit...

Game dev's shouldn't get all the blame though... We as comsumers should be in the know and take a stand when it comes to things like this... I feel like that on other issues pertaining to games, but that's for another discussion...

 

I've said for a long time that CoD is fascist war porn. What do you expect? We are an empire. Militaristic values must be instilled in tomorrow's cannon fodder. "Let's go pwn some camel jockeys for Christ!"
