this disclaimer and the copyright notice appearing in full. Any information
used from this document, quoted or no, should have this author's name somewhere
clearly as acknowledgement. Feel free to distribute between others, but this
FAQ is not to be used for profitable/promotional purposes; this includes being
used by publishers of magazines, guides, books, etc. or being incorporated into
magazines, etc. in ANY way.

The following is a movelist composed from reports on various Japanese sites. The sources for the movelists come from translating these following sites:

http://www.sega-rd2.com/vf4/
http://www.rnac.ne.jp/~pumochu/vf4/
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Bingo/5506/

http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~hn3t-adc/

By no means do I take any credit at all for their work in finding and commenting on the moves. The point of this document is for Western/English speaking VF players to be somewhat clued-in when the game hits their shores.

I do not read or speak Japanese at all, and all the following translations were done through a web tool. Please understand that some of it is going to be wrong, some probably very, very wrong. It should also be understood that some of exact commands are not known even to the sources.

M
Aoi's VF3 DF+P

FC,f+P,b+P+G (f+P+G)

"pile applying"

b,f+P,P+G
H-T
new hit throw, need to MC with b,f+P for it to come out (?)

slow mid-kick

stance
------

b+P+K+G
"Heaven and earth positive and negative principles"; Aoi can reverse mid and high attacks automatically from this stance; Aoi can dodge with u or d while in stance

the stance also can be done seemlessly (ie, it's canned) after moves if b+P+K+G is inputted immediately after the completion of the following moves:

d+K+G
f+K
PPPK
PPPd+K

new reversals
-------------

[while knocked down] d+P+K (P+K?)
pounce reversal; very slow

comments
--------

f,f+P no longer knocks down

df+P floats even on a normal hit, PPPK and PPPd+K will work in float followup

f,f+P+K floats better, PPPK and PPPd+K will work in float followup

f+K now floats fairly well; f+K,K hits OTB (?)

df+K is apparently slower in execution time, no longer knocks down even with MC, however it still staggers

ground throws have apparently become slower, although effective after opponent lands after bouncing off wall (?)

d+K+G no longer knocks down with normal hit, staggers intead; no longer possible to ground throw at all if it does knock down (?)

db+P+K can now reverse kickflips

H (?)
a "scream upper flying kicking"

misc comments from japan
------------------------

f,f+K+G appears faster in execution time

backward rolls are almost as effective after blocked sidekicks and elbows as in VF3, however they seem just slightly more vulnerable

the elbow, although more vulnerable, is still one of his big guns

d+K+G is more or less as effective as it was in any other VF incarnation; however, f,f+K is now impossible as a followup

db+K has been made much more effective, will collect mid level moves as well as high moves; Kage now recovers low after the move, but it's difficult to mC if blocked (?)

df+K+G appears faster in execution time, now floats; for example TT PPP etc

f,f+K is now G-cancellable, Kage recovers with his back turned if G-cancelled

f,f+P+K+G has a longer execution time (?)

uf+K+G can be followed with d+P,DP

oh, and before people jump on me asking why there's jack shit info for some of the characters...well, that's all i could find on the pages (for now). you can sort of gather the popularity of the characters from how much has been written on them. jacky, kage, aoi, and vanessa seem to have the most extensive research on them.

one last thing. this movelist is derived from reports from japan which are from the latest test version. some of the moves may have been changed since the UK/california tests, and more likely than not there will be plenty of changes in the final.

Notes on Jacky:

df+K, K
As mentioned this is altered, second K is no longer a slow M roundhouse but a quick followup i.e. Sarah-esque. A ? about whether you can use d+K as the second K.

P+K+G
I don't think is a counter, only switch stance.

G,b
I'm pretty sure this the counter. Note this like Akira's VF2 counter and so you can follow with any easy P (H).

b+P+K+G "Sliding Shuffle(?)"
Jacky quickly steps back about 1/4 to 1/3 of the ring width. Possibly useful to change the pace of a fight.

During "Sliding Shuffle(?)"
You can't follow the shuffle with hits it must be during the animation sequence.

K
Step sidekick (M)

d+K
Hop kick (L) - don't know about the second K will need to check.

Got some other notes but need to check them over again because I don't remember checking for holding a direction and tapping on some of them.

Thx for the great movelist...

I play Aoi these days in Hong Kong Trial Version and I found the following for ammendment of the list:

for our trial version,

Aoi:

The new throw is sweet and with the command f,b+P+G and not f,f+P+G.

The "Heaven-earth-Yin-Yang" can be done and can be follow up by d,d+P+K+G for a nice turn of Aoi(She rotate herself like SFEX2 someone do Akido does). During the turn, if you enter P, her hands will pull out a bit, but I still can't get the use if it.

The evadeting stomp d+P+K is hard to done. Can somebody tell me the actual scene when she done sucessfully to avoid attack??

and, the d/b+P is a good move that can make the opp stun greatly with MC, and follow by a low throw possible.

Others: can someone tell me wold the two new throw follow up of his d/f,d/f,+P+G and the wrist lock follow ? I can't make it out. Is that timing is essential like that of Giant Gram???

Thx

Nice list. To the poster wondering where you can translate this stuff, the address is (off the top of my head) babelfish.lycos.com - the site translates both phrases and entire web pages. The catch is that the translation of some stuff is just a tad off, i.e. it translates the term for stagger into "rear end rice cake". This is sure to become a popular new VF insider catch phrase, if I have anything to say about it.

note to ric0 - aoi's b,b+PK was in 3, it's her dodge and then standing palm, similar to pai's d/b+P in animation ... the guaranteed ground throw followup is a nice addition..

Jacky's d+K(PK), K - Sega finally puts in the mythical VF1 toekick-sidekick, heh

i added some of your contributions, as well as the ones from the poster from Hong Kong. however, i put (?)'s on them, because your test version is an earlier one, and most of the jacky movelists in japan have P+K+G noted as a reversal type move along with the switch step; no mention of G,b anywhere (unless i missed it). some moves which have been mentioned in the earlier tests don't seem to exist in the later test version in japan, too, notably kage's "handstand thingamabob" and wolf's f,f+K. in either case, though, they may be wrong, or they just have not found them yet.

i will be uploading a txt version which will contain revisions sooner or later.

Next time I play I will check again but I am sure that only G is needed to counter. When I found it I kept testing with only G,b and it worked perfectly against Lau who persistently punches. Jacky does an inside block that draws the puncher in and this leaves them exposed for half a second.

Oh btw do you remember which pages your Jacky references come from? I would like to check them out.
Edited by Nicky Wan on 07/20/01 06:03 PM (server time).

i don't doubt what you say. i'm just not certain that it's in the latest test version in japan.

explore the links given in the movelist for jacky movelists.

for your reference,

for the test verson, Jacky have an AUTO counter if you don't move the joystick!!! Yeh, do nothing with the joystick and you can get Jacky's counter, and just after the counter, you enter the P and an counter punch is out..

you may try to see if it's the same with our version.

There is no auto mode is the test version I've been playing. I wish there was a machine closer to where I live!

The site you want for translations is
babelfish.altavista.com/
I tried this for the official VF4 site. What an ingenuous
creation, although some translations are noticeably off.
Hope this helps.
